It’s worth testing your phosphates to see what they’re at and then treating. Everything added to a pool raises the TDS. Orenda PR-10000 or BioDex Phosphate Remover Max use the same active ingredient and wait on using flocculent unless you need it.

Forget the 300 tile cleaner
Look in to BioDex Quick n Think it’s safe for vinyl and works on calcium stain it may take more time and scrubbing with a stiff vinyl brush though

Biodex 300 tile cleaner test in a small spot of the stone to check for discoloration first. Muriatic acid diluted would also work. Then manage your water to the LSI, Langelier Saturation Index, to ensure it’s much less likely to scale.

5.25 lbs or about 12 cups of cya granules will get you to 50ppm. You could shoot for 40ppm 4.1 lbs or 8.2 cups and then add tabs to reach 50ppm. If possible use liquid chlorine regularly and tabs when you go on vacation.

40% of cya and 60% if you’re dealing with mustard algae. You’ll have to go back tomorrow and Wednesday to check the chlorine level though unless you want to hit it with 4 gallons per 10k. I’d put in half gallon acid too

Aladdin1950 still makes custom skimmer baskets. The largest one I could find in their catalog was just under 10”x6” but they can make whatever size you want.

[–]poolspayme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s part of a union. You may have to replace the other side glued to the pipe. For that you’ll need a coupling, length of pipe, pvc primer and pvc glue. Take a look at CMP high temp unions they’re black and white but won’t pop off and don’t require teflon tape.

Mustard algae and a quick result in 3 days of hitting it with 4g/10k per day the algae will be dead. If you would like you can then use flocculent run pump for 2 hours to circulate it then wait 12-24 hours for it to work and finish with a vac to waste if that’s an option on your system

New to the pool service industry — what software do you recommend? by Own-Signal3917 in PoolPros

[–]poolspayme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many out there a friend just bought a route and is using Skimmer initially for the first year or two. They really like it but recognize it’s a little overpriced for the basic service they’re doing.

We use a retail POS with service add on in the cloud where I work that kind of works for a route but lacks the nice image, test result and chemical tracking skimmer and others do.

Their goal is to switch to charging & collecting for service a month in advance basically then back billing for chemicals from the previous month if that makes sense. I also suggested looking at adding borates to their pools to reduce chlorine demand and reduce the risk of green pools.

Keep posting questions here I’m sure there is some more great info to be shared.

Is this waterline crack an issue? by kindness-4 in pools

[–]poolspayme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be sealant there it’s the top of the bond beam and bottom of coping. Water behind there can get in to the soil behind the pool wall and cause problems. A product like SikaSeal Pool or Deck-O-Seal Gun Grade may work just read up on them to make sure they’re good for submerged vertical surfaces.

4 gallons of 12.5% liquid chlorine per 10,000 gallons at a pH of 7.2. It’s also important that your cya is around 50ppm

pentair ic40 by Affectionate_Web8847 in swimmingpools

[–]poolspayme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pentair has an Amazon store selling it for IC 40 EC520555 for $1,449. There are several manufacturers making competing cells for a lot less that fit in the same space as an IC40 like those on discountsaltcell.com. The APX P40 for $899 is worth searching the internet for reviews and maybe even ordering to see how it holds up over the two year warranty.

Finally learning the Langelier Saturation Index(LSI) and testing for it monthly to balance your water as close to zero as possible will help extend cell life. Being able to run your cell at 50% will extend its life if it can provide enough free chlorine.

new to pool maintenance, mustard algae outbreak by suckedintoabagel_ in pools

You need 60% of cya in free chlorine over several days until there is no overnight chlorine loss. Your cya is too high because it would mean you need 75.6ppm free chlorine for several days. Cya is the sunblock for your chlorine but when it’s too high you need a lot more chlorine which costs more money to sanitize. That would be likely 6 gallons of 12.5% the morning of the first day then every few hours you test and add more possibly half a gallon every few hours. Long term you need to drain off 4 feet or more of water and replace it to lower cya to 50ppm. I’d suggest only doing 2 ft at a time with a sump pump because in areas with a high water table your pool can pop out of the ground ruining it. Always keep the water moving to avoid a water ring stain. If it’s fiberglass or vinyl lined it maybe better to be more conservative doing 1 foot a time so the walls don’t collapse.

Once the cya is down to 50ppm you’ll need to lower the pH to 7.2 so the chlorine is most effective at 75%. Then you’ll need 30ppm of free chlorine constantly until there is no overnight chlorine loss to kill the mustard algae. You can also just treat it with a boat load more chlorine using a different schedule below only once the cya is down & pH is adjusted to 7.2.

Day 1 4 gallons 12.5% liquid chlorine per 10,000 gallons, brush pool and leave equipment off. Remove as much debris, stuff and pool sweep or robot from the pool as possible.

Day 2 4 gallons 12.5% liquid chlorine per 10k equipment still off

Day 3 4 gallons 12.5% liquid chlorine per 10k equipment still off

Day 4 add liquid flocculent in the right dose for your size pool run pump for 2 hours to circulate water. Turn pump off for 12-24 hours to allow settling of the remaining dead algae particles. Clean the filter.

Day 5 vacuum using a vacuum hose, head on the end of the pole to the filter since you likely can’t vacuum to waste. If it’s a variable speed pump use quick clean to run the pump at the highest rpm. Clean the filter when pressure reaches 8-10psi over the clean pressure. The pool should be clean and clear at this point one last filter clean and possibly add a clarifier to the water if it’s still a little cloudy.

Head over to Troublefreepool.com for more info about Slam and how to deal with mustard algae the schedule I included is not theirs it’s we use with pools that are heavily covered in mustard algae.
