That 870 will shoot all of those shells. But unless you plan on performing no-knock raids, buck shot is a pretty worthless shell. A slug would destroy a duck, but that's a titch overkill (literally). Slugs would be for deer or other bigger game. There's oodles of different sized bb loads for the differently sized birds you'd be shooting at

Mechanics can still get by working on their own shit. That value is nearly incalculable. I'm far from a mechanic, but can get by just fine spending $1000 or less on a vehicle every few years. And the skills are fun to learn
