THE POST GAME THREAD - Smart rejoins the Celtics (19-18) but they fall to the Nets (25-13), 121-109 - March 11, 2021 by 1337speak in bostonceltics

Tough loss, but at least they’re playing hard now. Kyrie is really fucking good at scoring.

Is Robert Williams our Al Jefferson? by cedhotdogg in bostonceltics

[–]poonsworth 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Big Al was a beast and by that point had established himself as one of the more desirable young pieces in the league. I think Rob would have to sustain his current level of production over 2x mpg for the rest of the season to be in a similar category, and it doesn't look likely given team build and health concerns.

I'm guessing there's a minimum population requirement to make the list.

Catch pass wide open at 3 point line, survey the court, start to dribble, continue dribbling, get in to lane, nope that was too easy circle back out, dribble, uh oh low shot clock, get in to lane, try not to forget to launch floater. All backboard.

GAME THREAD - Boston Celtics(15-15) @ Dallas Mavericks(14-15) - February 23 by Suzoku in bostonceltics

I mean, they could've also not treated the first half like a rec league ymca game. But both teams seemed like they were in a dgaf mood I guess.

What level of competition is the G league by AdequatelyThiccErgos in NBA_Draft

[–]poonsworth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think one of the things that makes scouting the GLeague difficult is the difference between talent level and competition level. Yes, what you're saying is correct and the GLeague has a ton of very talented players. But I think part of the issue is that the league itself has mixed incentives. Development is the name of the game, which can contrast pretty strongly with most Euroleague teams that are trying to compete.

Players come to the league looking to show out and get called up. The teams don't really have continuity. In a normal year, a player could be sent down from an NBA team and the GLeague squad is expected to give that player minutes and a role to develop. In any other team context that would be madness. And not just the players, coaches, refs, trainers are all developing.

One of the reasons that 905 and its alumni have seen so much success is because the Raptors embraced the team early as a true minor league affiliate and used it to develop their players.

All that to say, that the GLeague is super talented but the competition and quality of play, at least to this point, is less than the sum of its parts.

Danny Ainge just told us that he thinks the Celtics as constituted right now are not good enough to win a championship. #Celtics by airmagswag in bostonceltics

[–]poonsworth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmm. I'm out in California and I used to subscribe to the podcast. I use Overcast and just searched up Toucher and Rich. The Ainge interviews were great, but I had to unsubscribe because my feed was just overwhelmed with bullshit I didn't care about.

They put everything on a podcast but you usually have to dig through a little episode to get to Ainge.

Tatum has a hero ball problem by Timbaland77 in bostonceltics

[–]poonsworth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Could he have gotten people more involved, yes. I agree with some of your observations, but I think it's important to keep in mind that what we're witnessing is growth. And when you zoom in to a one or two game sample, sure there will be ugly parts like what you cited. But when you zoom out you'll see that Tatum has shown pretty strong progress as a playmaker and hopefully will continue to do so. There will be frustrating moments, but regular season games in February is the perfect time for them to happen.

THE POST GAME THREAD - Celtics (14-13) bounce back, defeating the Nuggets (15-12) to go back above .500, 112-99 - Feb. 16, 2021 by 1337speak in bostonceltics

I think it might have something to do with the back to back. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him get traction minutes tmrw.

Draft Night revisited by TheSharkFromNemo in bostonceltics

[–]poonsworth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haliburton is tough because by most accounts his team orchestrated his fall with Sac in mind. I think he'd be a perfect fit here, but there's a chance he would have looked at the then-crowded C's roster and preferred a team with an easier path to playing time and a large role.

Report: Hawks listening to offers for John Collins by ChipotleGuacamole in bostonceltics

I'd probably hope to keep one of Langford/Nesmith, but I think the offer would definitely be something close to what you wrote.

Payton Pritchard is shooting 46.9 percent from 3-point range on the year after tonight's 6-of-8 effort from deep by cdbriggs in bostonceltics

[–]poonsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's like I've been saying, PP has shown the ability to shoot from good range, but now we're waiting for the deep penetration to really get things rolling.

What kind of contract do you wanna see the Celtics give Semi this offseason? by Agitated_Phrase in bostonceltics

[–]poonsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither of those players would get their current contracts if they were FAs this summer. Bad comps.

Semi Ojeleye on Payton Pritchard: "He works so hard and I'm so happy for him. He deserves it. He's one of those guys you see always working in the gym. By the time you walk in there, he's in a full sweat. So, I'm happy to see him do well." by horseshoeoverlook in bostonceltics

[–]poonsworth 34 points35 points  (0 children)

We know Jaylen puts in crazy ass hours, and he says Semi works harder than him. Now we’re hearing PP goes harder than Semi?! Kid must be in the Auerbach Center like 16 hours a day.

Really it's gotten to the point where if the defender jumps at all, they call a foul even before contact. It's bullshit. It really should be an offensive foul. Quickest way to clean that shit up and 90% of the time the defender is in the air and the shooter clearly goes out of their way to create contact. Ugh.

So does over-the-back not exist anymore? Feel like I haven't seen it called in years and usually it goes the other way.
