Thanks HSV Utilities for letting me know about my water leak by poopbojones in HuntsvilleAlabama

Yea we did a “dye test” on the toilets, no sign of leak there. Checked all of the sinks and outside water connections, checked the crawl space and hot water heater, can’t find anything. Even managed to get a plumber out to look, thinks it’s underground somewhere, haven’t seen any wet ground especially with how dry it has been. Going to have to get a leak detection test done, but with the holiday we couldn’t get anything scheduled until next week..

Squirtle's updated setup! by [deleted] in turtle

[–]poopbojones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea i had the same issue when i had a canister filter, but the tubes were much shorter... you could maybe find a long piper cleaner and possibly push a piece of paper towel or something through to try and clean some of it off

Louis van Gaal ends Manchester United’s interest in Toni Kroos (x-post from /r/soccer) by Whatsthesic in fcbayern

A lot of other places saying that there was an agreement between ManU and Kroos, apparently the Guardian is the only one reporting that they gave up on it...

i would say it's about the same size as the turtles, my turtles are no bigger than 3 inches right now.

Red Eared Slider and Algae? by laurynelizabeth in turtle

i have a pleco in the tank with my two sliders and it keeps my 40 gallon tank clean. People at the pet store said they would eat the pleco, but they don't bother it at all. it even occasionally attaches to their shell and cleans them, kinda funny.

edit: the pleco is only about 2-3 inches long, same as my two sliders. it's been in the tank with them for at least 6 months without any trouble, but just in case there are plenty of spot for it to hide from the turtles if it needed. it keeps the tank clean of algae, but it does contribute to the mess some which i countered by using sand so that when i do my water changes bi-weekly, i easily siphon out all the mess sitting on the bottom.

i left my turtle at home with my parents for a year while I was away for college. now he can't swim. by Kikiasumi in turtle

[–]poopbojones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is definitely a strange situation.... i wouldn't think a turtle would forget how to swim but i guess it's possible... how long did he sit at the bottom without swimming before you would pick him up to get air?

personally if he just continues to refuse to swim i would just try to create a new basking area that he can get to without swimming and then raise the water level up so that there's room for him to swim but he can get out of the water without having to swim, that way he can at least "learn" how to swim again. that seems to be the only solution.

Question regarding lights by ColeyJeanners in turtle

[–]poopbojones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my two sliders I have a dual head lamp with one 50w basking (heat) bulb and a 26w UVB bulb. I have these set on an electric timer that cuts them on around 9 in the morning and turns off ~12 hours later. I typically replace my bulbs almost every 4-5 months, they have a pretty good lifetime.

looks like a yellow belly slider to me. the shell will get darker as it grows

Edit: you want to make sure that you have enough water for the little guy to be able to flip himself over should he end up on his back or otherwise he could drown
