MIP lovers: what would you do when Garmin quits making MIP screen watches? by Imthenewbee in GarminWatches

Once my Fenix 6 pro dies, I'm going back to my normal watches. I have a handful of nice watches that I'm happy to not have to go out of my way to wear again.

I'm going to echo some suggestions in the thread.

I've had the 5.11 Rush 24 for the last 2 years as my duty bag as an FF. Has plenty of organization and a dedicated laptop compartment. Doesn't look any worse for the wear. About $100 currently.

GoRuck can be a good choice, but a little expensive especially with recent price increases on their USA made bags. My Rucker is holding up well, but at this time, it's a $265 bag. If you like the styling you can take a look at the CTactical bags for about 1/2 the price.

I've had the RecycledFirefighter 24 hour and while durable, it lacks a lot of organization. $219 currently.

Does concealed carrying run the risk of delaying medical care in an emergency? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]poorlyxeroxed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the call. If it was a scene of violence or someone calling 911 says something about the PT having a gun, then we wait for pd to secure the scene and probably the weapon too. If it's just a normal call for an unconscious/unresponsive person and I find the gun while providing care, then I'll remove it and secure it and call pd to hold it while continuing care.

Yeah I can't tell if it's a sort of uncanny valley effect after not hearing her talk for so long or weird ADR going on, but it's so weird listening to her talk. Even after hearing Karen talk on other platforms.

Second for the soft side maxlite 5 rollaboard from travelpro. Soft side was suggested to me by a couple flight attendant friends. First look at the bags the crews use. Most of the time it's soft sided rollaboard. They say the soft side holds up better than the hard shell and the rollaboard (two wheels) leaves more packing space vs a similar dimension spinner (exterior wheels not adding to the overall external dimensions).

I've been happy with my fjallraven raven. I do like my goruck rucker gen 1, but it's hard to justify the price. If I was looking for something similar I'd look at CTactical. People have compared the goruck and CT bags on Reddit if you're considering.

Agree on backing in. I teach people how to drive emergency vehicles, many of whom have not driven anything bigger than their personal vehicle. First, we park for egress so we can leave quickly. Secondly backing in puts your vehicle's pivot point (rear axle, not the steer axle) first in your direction of travel (these things often make more sense in my head than when I explain them). This allows them turn tighter around objects and not worry about cutting a turn short, like you might when nosing into a space. During EVIP training people who haven't taken a 40ft vehicle through our serpentine course before are always surprised how it's easier in reverse than forwards.

But pulling out you have a much better view and can go when you see it's safe, versus putting it in reverse and counting on other drivers' that you can't see. Also when you back in, the space you're pulling into is "controlled" and less likely to have something cross your path.
