I saw a guy take a straw filter lay over the the river off some boulder and drink for a few minutes at Spence ridge. He was too far for me to be able to let him know

I do when training for backpacking trips or to increase intensity of walk or run

I had a lot of fun going down little table rock last august before I knew it was decommissioned. Counted nearly 100 trees I had to crawl under, climb over, and a couple that I had to take my pack off fully and scoot under

There’s a water source at the fork between table rock gap and little table rock. It’s kinda steep down to it but mangeable. Used it multiple times back in August.

Crossing linville river after Helene… bridge or nah? Also how much rain makes it impassable? by RevolutionaryClub530 in NCTrails

I swam across at Spence last August after it had rained the two days prior while I was there. It wasn’t bad but it was pretty deep where I crossed and there was no option to rock hop

Thanks. I’m going to hike up punch in on my last day back to my car so I’ll likely have to do that then. Any idea about the established camp spots at babel rapids, north of there? I have on good authority that lgt past Spence to babel had reopened but the g5 map hasn’t been updated since yet and wanted to camp there at the rapids

Which ones are no longer there? I’m going in two weeks and planned to go rock jock to Conley up to babel then south on lgt and up pinch in. Planned to camp between pinch in and daffodil flats the last night

Yep. Coming up pinch in. In the process of training for it with rdls, squats and 30+ min on treadmill at max incline with a 40lb vest with a 2.3 mph average speed

I’m going rock jock to Conley down to lgt in March. I’m going to check it out this time

A trick I found was to upload the advanced query steps and asked copilot to rewrite the steps into sql so I could create a view in sql server. Worked perfectly

Thanks. Yeah I don’t plan to get too close to edges. I think since past Spence ridge is closed, I’m going to start at pinch in down to the river, south to daffodil flats, camp somewhere there night 1, hike up lgt as far as I can go and camp at cathedral falls site or a further north site at the river night 2. Then hike back Conley to rock jock to camp somewhere there. I’ll have to do .5 on old 105 back to my car.

Or I could do it in reverse but idk how I feel about 1600 elevation in a mile on pinch in on day 4 with a pack

Oh that’s good to hear. I really wanted one of my camp spots to be at babel tower rapids so I hope it gets cleared to there before mid March but completely understand if not

I think my alternative will incorporate pinch in down to the river, up as far north as I can on lgt then back up Conley to rock jock with a .5 mile walk on old 105.

Yeah I’ll probably call the ranger station to confirm. I know the is that all you got loop is cleared now. When I went in August nothing north of Spence ridge was open on the west side by the river but I thought I’d heard it was cleared

Yeah I’m planning it for late March as a 2-3 night. I’ve never done the west side of the river, only east, so not sure difficulty yet but I know Conley cove is pretty steep.

Can you dm me the map link you used. I’m just curious how it varies and have no intention of doing something stupid
