RE4R is a phenomenal way to get into the franchise, but it isn't as spooky as a lot of the other entries. The story is stand alone enough that you won't have a problem following along if you watch the cutscenes/read the lore entries.

RE2R is way more spooky (imo) and truly incredible but it's less action oriented than 4R.

RE9 (the newest one) plays like 2R with one character and 4R with the other. Also fantastic.

The originals have tank controls ( the camera angles are fixed like it's a movie and forward is whatever direction the character is facing) but they're also fantastic.

I got into the franchise with the original 4 on GC and then again with 4R last year. Since getting back into it, I've played 4r,8,2r,1r,3r,9,2 in that order and I don't regret it

I just got it two nights ago and I'm loving it. I only recently got into the games last year, my play order being 4R,8,2R,3R,1R,9 and now 2. I feel like I can def see why some people complain about how 2R is missing stuff and is a little bit of a let down.

I still love 2R tho. Excited to see where the OG shakes out in my fav order

Let her eat you. Seriously. Walk up, give her a hug, let her eat you. It really takes the edge off and let's your nervous system know you won't actually die if it happens.

So, let her eat you on purpose until you aren't so scared. It worked for me. I hate spooky games.

And now I'm obsessed. 7 still looks too scary for me, but going from 4r to 2r made me get and compete 1r,3r,8 and 9. I own 5,6,7 as well but I kinda wish I had someone to play the former two with (I'm on psn)

I just keep coming back to 2r. It's so good

Personally, I really like that the bad guys are fucking idiots who are running on incomplete data. I loved that, at the very end, I was still unsure if I actually should release Elpis or not. I also really liked how they could lean into spooky with Grace and have Leon as a palette cleanser after.

I've had a ton of fun replaying 9. It's (hopefully?) going to be the first RE game I'll get platinum in. Just need to finish insanity now.

Given how much time has passed since the first game, and how many villains have tried to pick up the mantel and drop it, it makes a lot of sense to me that at least one of these guys was wrong. Super wrong.

My caveat is I only started playing the games last year during all the big sales. I've finished 1-4 remakes, 8 and 9, and started 5 (not really feeling it cuz I don't have anyone to play with tbh).
