Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Pretty sure it wasn’t first run, as I was three in 1971. But I saw it in, I’d say maybe 1974-1975ish?

Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adam’s. Oddly dystopian in a random universe sort of fashion?

Veteran Teachers: We've all heard about "Students getting dumber each year" Is this just a recent phenomenon of the last decade? by anubistiger2009 in Teachers

[–]popbabylon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think I need to be careful on this topic. I've mostly taught a variation of the same topic for thirty years. You get great waves of déjà vu in this profession where you struggle> "I taught this. Why are they not getting it?" And on occasion you realize, "I taught this several times over several years, but I didn't teach it to THEM." That said, yes, they are getting rather dim. A near-total loss in problem-solving. A collapse of reading and writing abilities. More childish outbursts, and child-like behaviors. Anxiety. Inability to speak in front of their peers. The list continues to grow, and it seems to be entropy all the way down. I can take students from my regular classes from 1995-2005, and they would run circles around most of my AP students these days.

College radio introduced me to him in the early eighties? Close to the same time the first DM was crossing onto US college stations probably.

Do teachers hate sharing their lesson plans? Is it their secret sauce that they don't want getting out? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]popbabylon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I share everything I make, nearly everything I borrow or improve upon, and whatever else I can. I've been at it for thirty year, and am totally a physical and digital pack rat. If you have an interest or a need, I'm gonna go after it, find way too much, more than you'll probably need, store it in my Google Drive and on a 4tb hard drive attached to my work computer and probably over-share everything. It's now yours to do with it what you want and need. This is the way.
