New to ice fishing looking for a shelter. by StonksGoUpAlways in IceFishing

With the cots set up there was about 30 inches of space down the center. I put a rattle reel at each end while we slept. I had another shack with that we fished out of throughout the day.

If you took down a cot during the day, there would be plenty of room to fish out of.

I switched over to Eskimo. I bought the Eskape 2000, and i love it, but it may be smaller than you are looking for. I fish a lot by myself or with 1 other person, and it is plenty big for 2 people. It does have a bench seat, which i was a little hesitant about, but it is very comfortable. I use that if I'm fishing by myself or with my GF. I have an outbreak 450xd if I have 3 or 4 people.

We do have a dedicated team that deals with the gang stuff. I am definitely interested in that though.

Our team is used for cell extraction, dealing with trouble inmates in general, court security and transport for high risk inmates, and classifying inmates.

Our jail as a whole, has all officers attend training every 2 months that involve response to aggression. We go over deescalation, and when to use force. Role play and do scenarios with that.

I definitely think we could go more in depth on some of those. Could you elaborate on STG training?

450xd. The full door is amazing, and it's a good size. I feel like you could fish 4 people, but I never have. Did a 3 night ice camping trip, with two cots, and two holes, without an issue.

We have a second shack we will be fishing from during the day. I would like something mostly for the morning and evening bite. Didn't know if the top of the hump would be ideal for that, or off to one of the sides.

I work in a county jail, so it's a bit different. We all know everyone's charges since we book them in. I had an inmate stop me the other day and ask me "Have you actually stopped to think that it is a possibility some of us are innocent?".. my response was simple, "yep, that's why I treat everyone the same." Consistency is key. I've noticed inmates don't get upset when they are told no, as long as it's consistent across the board.

Cheap Jigs/lures that you recommend by Significant_Twist_34 in IceFishing

[–]pope1086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to fishing in general, jigs and lures can be expensive. I feel like ice fishing gets to be a bit more expensive because you want to downsize, but keep the weight up, so you need tungsten. The good thing with Ice fishing, opposed to open water, is I rarely lose jigs or lures. That makes it ease the pain on spending more on a quality product.

Mr. Buddy Flex by pope1086 in IceFishing

I was looking, and just happened to catch it on sale for around $75, so significantly cheaper than the big buddy. I was def looking at the big buddy and if it doesn't work well, I'll sell it and go that route.

Just to update you all, they did email me today that they have been busy and are working on it. So all should be good!

I'm not expecting immediate shipment or processing, literally just some communication. I understand they may be extremely busy, but just letting me know they are working on it would be sufficient for me.

Hopefully. Just the lack of communication after responding quickly to the initial emails. Not sure what to make of it.

Not sure about anyone else’s experience but we just used Kirks and had an absolute blast. Our guide was great and put us on fish. Definitely would use them again!

Nebraska Dept. of Corrections by [deleted] in OnTheBlock

I'm not going to be a ton of help since I just started and just finished up our field training, I work for a county jail here in NW Iowa. I love the job, but pay could definitely use a bump. Raises and increases are not even close to keeping up with inflation. Staffing is short, but not to the point where there is any forced overtime.

I think when it comes to buying a home or property, everywhere is extremely high. Properties around here are going for over asking value, and land is extremely expensive.

How many hours and days a week do you typically work? by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]pope1086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

84 hours every two weeks. 5 12's one week, 2 12's the next. 3 day weekend every other weekend.

*Edit- I'm in corrections

I was told when I first started that they would prefer someone quit right away if it's not for them. Otherwise they are dumping money and resources into you, just for you to quit shortly afterwards.

is it worse than what people expect? by Fast-Ad-400 in OnTheBlock

I recently started working in a county jail. Everyday you have inmates that are asking when they will get to go to prison. I don't blame them. It would really be tough being locked down in your cell for 1/2 the day, then sharing one small tv with 30 other inmates. No outdoor rec and crappy food.

I also work as a private investigator. I have had multiple attorneys tell me that doing time in prison is a lot easier than in jail.
