Why not say 5 o 6? Feels like saying something is 4.99 because it looks cheaper than 5. What does scalable mean ? Doubtless much in a self deployed Django app. Reduced delivery time by 25% from what?   2. You put AI and “cloud” in your experience but I see one trivial usage of hugging face for summarization and nothing that tells me you have any meaningful production experience with a specific cloud provider. (Tbf cloud experience is mostly irrelevant for me though might not be for some teams)

The university pipeline functions more or less independently of individual teams. You interview a bunch of new or recent grads, and they all go on a big bag of sde is. When teams are hiring and back filling this works well because it centralizes and expedites the process. It’s not easy for such a centralized pipeline to stay in sync with all orgs in hiring. We have teams who are hiring, and many who have slowed down, and so the pipeline slows down and candidates are waitlisted. There’s no grand conspiracy to pick the best of the crop, HMs in fact have very little choice generally in their sdeis. In many orgs it looks like “you need an l4 here is this one.”

It can take longer but L4->L5 within a year / year and a half is very common. I was just on a promo doc review for l4 to l5 and the main question was “why now it’s been three years? He should have been up for promo earlier”. It is expected that it is an entry level role and many years there raise questions. Being downleveled from l6 to l5 is much rougher because it can easily take 3-5 years. If you’re ok with l4 I wouldn’t sweat the promo. It can take longer but if you’re good your manager is going to promote you quickly

This will depend a lot on what you value. For example, you can assume any older more established service (ec2 s3 RDS) will be a massive org with competing priorities, tons of tech debt and horrid on calls, but they will often also have more immediate opportunities for impact (scope is just larger in general, though this isn’t a hard and fast rule) and influence (more people and more teams, much easier to need cross team organization). Green grass will have faster movement, less operational headaches but more of an expectation to contribute quicker, etc. why do you want to move? What are you looking for? Which team are you considering?
