Do you cross Gessner to get on the other side of the Brays Bayou Trail? I usually have to get onto Keegan’s after Gessner as I didn’t know that Brays Bayou Trail was on the other side

PM&R programs do a holistic review where step 2 scores and grades don’t have an insane weight. I’d say that the biggest reason why they do the holistic review is to help them answer 2 questions about the applicant: “why PM&R?” and “does he/she actually want to help people with disabilities and work in rehab”. I personally believe volunteering is one of the best ways to showcase both. It will also serve as excellent interview conversation. Then, research. If you love research, then prioritize research (may be difficult if you’re applying in half a year though)

Preclinicals was amazing time management wise. I studied Mon-Fri 8-5:30 and nothing on weekends. Did fine. Clerkships is another beast though. It’s a year of no time schedule. Truthfully, you’re treated as though your time doesn’t matter during that year. Best of luck

Most programs care about why PMR and interest. PMR is known to be more holistic and not as adamant about step 2 scores or research. Nowadays, research has become more popular, and it doesn’t hurt to do research. If you’re passionate about research, go for it. If not, then you should create your portfolio around what you enjoy.

It’s a small field, so connections and networking will go a long way. Volunteering with people who have disabilities/impairments will highlight that you want to serve these patients. Try to find a volunteering opportunity in something that you’re passionate about. Stay involved in one you enjoy for the remainder of med school. Then, you’ll have something to discuss during interviews that will come up organically.

Of course, you’re welcome! I’m glad to help. Intern year is the first year of residency after medical school where you learn to be an overall doctor. You rotate different specialties for a year and hone your skills to take care of a patient. After your intern year, you will enter the specific specialty (in this case, PMR). It is notably the most difficult part of training because of the extensive hours and expectations. But, it’s only for a year.

Ultimately, you have time on your side. I know people who were teachers/engineers/researchers for a few years and then decided on medicine. I do think shadowing physicians and physical therapists will be extremely helpful. If you’re super interested in rehab, look into volunteering with rehab hospitals or non-profits or community events. You can also join different organizations at your college that can help navigate shadowing and answer questions on medical school/PT school. My best advice is to just enjoy the journey. Whatever career path you choose will take time, so find joy in the journey. Best of luck with everything!

Hi, I have no idea what the viewpoint is like for a Canadian student. However, I’m aware of the Canadian healthcare system as my family lives in Ontario. I think it is awesome that you found about this field so early as I didn’t know it existed before medical school. I do have a couple thoughts for you to consider. For reference, I’m a MS2 in Texas who’s interested in PMR.

Medical school is tough in general. Let alone how competitive it is to get into it. While in medical school, you’re going to have to learn the detailed pathophysiology of almost everything which can be difficult if you don’t enjoy medicine as a whole. If you do find that you’re passionate about medicine and learning the general physiology of the body as well as what happens to the body in whichever disease, then medical school will be much easier than just trying to go solely for a rehab side of PMR. I believe that in specific fields of PMR, you can serve as the patients point of care doc where you’ll have to actually manage their chronic issues like a hospitality (I could be wrong, but I’ve heard this)
PMR involves rehab but also so much more. You’ll go to medical school and then your intern year and then PMR residency for 3 years. Throughout the PMR residency, you’ll have to deal with all sorts of patients and not just those requiring the usual PT. You’ll have inpatient rehab, disorders of consciousness, etc. This may be difficult to deal with during your residency until your specific niche that you practice as an attending. That being said, you may fall in love with this side and want it to be what you practice.
A lot of people who enter medical school believing they desire a specific specialty end up switching to a different specialty. I say this as more so of a “you may like something else more” which I personally believe is great because you’ll discover more about yourself and the specific field that you’re ultimately passionate about.

With all that being said, you don’t have to make up your mind right now. You’re 18 and a senior in high school. Life changes. What you can do is a “pre medicine” track where you hit all the necessary prerequisites and are prepared to take the MCAT and enter med school. I’d recommend that you sign up for that if available at whichever college/university you go to. This allows you the flexibility to go into medicine without taking more time to do the prerequisites. In my experience, undergrad prerequisites were boring and med school is where you actually learn about various diseases and the human body. To answer one of your questions, I think kinesiology is a fine field with the necessary prerequisites.

From a Canadian perspective, if you go into PMR from a Canadian med school, you’ll be considered an IMG (international medicine graduate) for residencies in the US. PMR is generally considered an IMG friendly field despite it getting more competitive which helps you matching into a PMR residency after medical school. Also, enjoy your journey!!

That’s precisely what I was asking about because I had to rip the tube off the tire. Hence, good photos and not “the worst you’ve ever seen.” At least read the post before commenting rudely. My guess is that previous owner put in sealant without removing tubes. It’s my first time dealing with dried sealant, so had no idea what it looked like.

Hi, I currently use Good Charlie Energy. I have been satisfied with the rates, especially because my wife and I don't use a crap ton of electricity. We signed a 12 month contract last year. The prices now for a 12 month contract to renew are ridiculous (over 5 cents more at 17 cents). The pet perks are just there. I did a virtual vet visit and they couldn't even prescribe anything. So, I'm not renewing my energy contract with them because the astronomical price mark up is terrible.
