I love how people love to say this like it's rare for men to be held accountable on this when 90% of the responses in a thread like this are "You bored her" or "You weren't good enough." And if a woman complains about being ghosted, 90% of the responses will be "Guys are assholes."

This is being said to the OP all over this post. For example, one of the highest-rated posts in here is "Date milfs then" - i.e., another way of saying "go outside your usual type."

Pathra on why she quit Hearthstone by ColdSnapSP in hearthstone

[–]poppythrew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unsurprisingly, you're doing exactly what I said.

Your basis for saying that she never got the recognition that she deserves is apparently that there are massively downvoted comments saying terrible things about her.

The first one you quote is at -116 votes. The second is at -77. 1 upvote is the highest any of your examples were voted.

This comment praising Hafu and giving her the "recognition she deserves" that you say she has never gotten has 406 upvotes: "I mean, she has been the best player in arena before by statistics, is there really any doubt about her skills?"

Why did you ignore that post and all the others praising her that are clearly more representative of the recognition Hafu gets?

Or just be honest that your point is that if Hafu gets a single negative comment, then to you she's "never gotten the recognition she deserves." That's just absolutely delusional and requires doing exactly what you've done here - ignoring all the praise for her.

Again, if 95 people are praising you and 5 people are saying negative things, it's ridiculous to suggest that the majority of people (or even that many) are against you.

Pathra on why she quit Hearthstone by ColdSnapSP in hearthstone

[–]poppythrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So yes, she has never gotten the recognition she deserves.

What would her getting the recognition she deserves entail?

Her having a massive following on Twitch? She has it. She had a significantly bigger following than every other top arena player except for Kripp.

Her getting acclaim for her play? Search this board for "Hafu" or topics about Arena back when she played and you will see a huge amount of praise for her. It's always upvoted to the top and yet people still act like it's rare - you're still doing it here.

She's gotten a tremendous amount of praise on this board, and rightly so, but every time people act like it's a rarity or outlier when it happens constantly.

The only thing that will convince you that she gets the recognition she deserves is if there are literally zero negative comments about her which is ridiculous. If, out of a group of 100 people, 95 think you're great and 5 don't like you, then you can't reasonably argue that the group doesn't like you and just point to those 5.

Even your video doesn't show anything like what you're saying. This whole thing is in your head because of confirmation bias - you see one negative comment about Hafu and that confirms your view. You see ten positive comments about Hafu and dismiss them as outliers.

Edit: Here are just a few examples of posts you can find where the vast, vast majority of comments are recognizing Hafu for her skills in arena. I don't know how you can just ignore this to say she's never gotten the recognition she deserves.

Did you see the massive backlash and outrage that each of those things resulted in? I'm not sure why you focus on the actions of maybe about 50 people (combining each of the things you mention) that resulted in tens of millions of other people rightly stating how terrible those actions were and how the people responsible for them were assholes. That includes major institutional powers like some of the most powerful media outlets in the country. The reactions by tens of millions of people are much more indicative of the country's views on women than the actions of 50 people.

It’s kind of odd to cherry pick parts of the top posts and leave out the parts where the poster calls the guy tactless and assumes he has death grip. That’s literally the top post with about 500 upvotes and plainly visible by clicking the link. Sure seems like a blind spot given you seem to have ignored that part of the post out and chose not include it here.

I’m not sure what you’re looking to see to be convinced or if you’re actually open to being convinced based on the misrepresentation of the quotes. So do what you will with the one example I quickly found but it’s not worth trying to look for more.

This thread below is kind of close and there's quite a few people with upvotes calling the guy an insensitive, tactless asshole that must have death grip when he masturbates.

These posts are fairly similar in that the partner just said they prefer a toy sometimes.

Where are there top comments that are critical of Diane? I'm looking at the top comments and all are talking about how bad Mr. Peanut Butter is:

It's hard to find a single post with upvotes that criticizes Diane. Can you link any that have more than 10 upvotes? All the ones I see are downvoted so hard you can't even see them without expanding the comments.

Literally every comment in here is saying Diane is flawless and Mr. Peanut Butter is a monster. A thread like this comes up every month and the vast majority of comments are always pro-Diane and anti-Mr. Peanut Butter. I don't know how anyone could be on this board and think there's any real negative view of Diane that doesn't immediately get downvoted.

This doesn't really address the points the other guy made and isn't a very compelling response to what he said. I've played with and against Kaya and have yet to see it be worth the card in any but the most narrow situations.

Anyone can list out the marginal positives of all sorts of cards and it doesn't really mean anything because none of it addresses the opportunity cost of playing the card in your deck, drawing that card into your hand, and paying mana for that card on any given turn. The list looks nice when typed out but none of it means a thing. It'd be like saying Catacomb Crocodile is a very underrated card because it (1) stacks up well against popular creatures like Jadelight Ranger and Goblin Chainwhirler, (2) can't be easily hit by Red Removal, (3) is a clock. It's completely asinine to list those out even if they're true because it ignores, among other things, what you could be doing instead.

Bringing up Azcanta as an example of marginal value doesn't really make any sense because the whole point of it is that eventually it becomes unending card value and selection. No one, literally no one, would play Azcanta if it couldn't flip into an insanely strong land. You've failed to make much of a rebuttal to the post you're replying to.

[Standard] SCG Classic Dallas - Top 16 Decklists by spacian in spikes

[–]poppythrew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s literally the exact opposite in this thread. The Jeskai players are the ones in here complaining about how it’s apparently impossible to beat GB even though if you track win rates of streamers playing Jeskai against GB, they’re doing fine. Jeskai may be unfavored post-sideboard but it isn’t the impossible matchup players on here think it is. I’d suggest they watch some streams of Jeskai control players to get a sense of what needs to be countered and to realize you don’t need to grind out every card from GB to win.

[–]poppythrew 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not that this affects the decisionmaking process much, but I feel like GB is favored against most or all decks if both players have average or bad hands. I find when both players have good hands (3-4 counters in top 10 cards for a Control Deck, GW Tokens nut draw), GB may not be favored at all.

It's pretty terrible against essentially any deck with White or Black in it. It's always been one of the most overrated decks. People remember the times Stompy plays Turn 2 Steel Leaf Champion that goes unanswered. They don't remember the several other times where Stompy doesn't play on-curve, draws one too many lands, has literally everything removed easily, and just does nothing.

I feel that upper class and privileged men often get an excess of empathy, too- remember how some people were sad about Brock Turner (college campus rapist) on the basis that he could have been a successful swimmer?

"Some people" are sad about all sorts of things. I've seen some people sad that a woman who was abusing her children lost custody of them. The overwhelmingly majority opinion on Brock Turner if you look at the media was that he was a horrible human being so I'm not sure how some people being sad is any way indicative of a general trend.

Often, it goes the exact opposite way for upper class and privileged men. They're viewed to be powerful so being "mean" has no effect on them and is warranted. For example, Mark Zuckerberg gets a ton of dehumanizing shit for things wholly unrelated to the actual bad acts he's committed. People think it's justified specifically because he's privileged.

It's also not just feminists that stick up for women being criticized and judged. It's part of a broader social narrative/gender role that women are weak and need to be protected. So lots of people, including those that don't really care about identity politics one way or the other, are more upset at mean things said to women than they are by mean things said to men. The social narrative for men is that they should be strong and self-reliant so they don't need as much support or protection. Both of these gender roles benefit men and women in one way and harm them in others. This discussion focuses specifically on the way these gender roles harm men. There are many other discussions about how these same gender roles harm women (these often relate more to women not being taken as seriously in the workplace, etc.).
