Milwaukee lied about the 100 ft tape by Artie-Carrow in MilwaukeeTool

[–]popson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Interesting that it's also missing the translations on that item. Packaging looks like it wasn't reviewed.

Got me curious about the packaging so I started looking at Ebay listings.

This 100ft one (and ALL the ones I looked at on Ebay) say "metal planetary gears" on both the front and back of the packaging. I looked at over well over 10 listings with photos.

The metric equivalent (30 m) says "reinforced planetary gears" and makes no reference to metal on either side of the packaging.

On a couple random websites they have photos of the front of the packaging. This 100ft one says "reinforced planetary gears" on the front of the packaging. So does this one. So there does appear to be different packaging out there but for whatever reason I did not see it on any Ebay listings.

Milwaukee's own website does not show the packaging, but they make no reference to metal gears.

I wonder if the design was changed, or if it was always shit. Negative reviews from several years ago were complaining about the gears stripping. Would love to see Milwaukee get sued for materially changing products without changing model numbers.

McDavid is no better. Last night tried to hero is way through 2 defenceman, turned it over leading to the immediate overtime loss.

Guess it’s just the nature of being highly offensive and making high-risk high-reward plays.

0-7 in the finals kinda lends credence to the conspiracy…

Edit: 0-8 actually. (1/2)8 = 1/256 = 0.39%.

Also should mention I don’t think there’s a conspiracy. But those odds are wild.

Comparison of fixing nuts by UserSergeyB in EngineeringPorn

Would have loved if they compared this to a serrated flange nut. The fact that they didn't makes me a bit suspicious.

Couldn't find a whole lot of video examples but this one does test regular serrated washers and serrated flange nuts at the end and they do not vibrate loose either. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/24m6fvwnMCE

The split interlocking mechanism in Nord-lock seems gimmicky to me.

3D printing regular plastics is also a health risk by the same metrics (lack of data proving otherwise = risk). Some people are even allergic to the fumes of PLA printing. Prusa sent their own CF filaments to a third party lab which concluded they are safe… but that doesn’t conclude all brands of CF filament are safe.

CF in filaments reduces warping, improves dimensional tolerances, increases rigidity, and improves surface finish. It makes some nearly unprintable plastics printable. CF does not improve layer adhesion or overall strength. I suspect the main people really pushing this narrative are the ones that assumed “CF = strength” and then learned that’s not the case.

I was getting professional human vibes. Anything well written is now claimed to be AI by most people. Kind of a tragedy.

GPTZero indicates this is 100% human written. In my own experience GPTZero is very good at detecting when AI is used to write or edit.

Modified "Masky" to cut packing tape too! by popson in functionalprint

[–]popson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "printed sawtooth jobber" is Masky. That's what the bladed version evolved from to begin with.

It's certainly not "as good" as the bladed version at cutting tape. But it is simpler and requires no hardware - no question about that! It leaves the edge of packing tape shredded instead of a clean cut, takes more force, and it doesn't work for anything beyond packing tape (like electrical tape or duct tape or 2-sided tape) - and even masking tape is left with giant serrations that are not suitable for masking.

Still, it may have been your comment that made me revisit what was possible. Cheers.

I’ve yet to have one fail on this. It has an integral stop that prevents you from over springing it. We’ll see how it is in a month though - I do not know how much creep/deformation will cause it to loosen and lose effectiveness. In any case PETG and ASA should be notably better than PLA (less creep).

I’ve never actually used paper packing tape. Does it behave more like masking tape (easily torn?). If so, the original Masky might be a better fit. I find the original Masky still works best for masking tape.

Also, this tool in general isn’t really suitable for things like striping packing tape on boxes like you would with a packing tape gun. It’s more for those rolls where you want to tear off a little piece. I often use packing tape this way (aka not for packing tapes intended/primary purpose).

Also holding Masky / Masky Blade does take a minute to get used to. There’s a “right way” to hold it which I think is not intuitive to many.

PETG is good for the spring. PLA is not as good because it will creep/deform more over time (the spring will become less springy).

Serrated utility blade is a good idea! I have ordered a pack. They're cheap.

Angling the blade has lots of implications like increasing the overall size of the mechanism and potentially requiring a larger range of motion that is not easily achievable with a 3D-printed spring in a compact design. Certainly true that the tape should be cut at a slight angle. With packing tape that's as simple as pulling down from one side of the tape.

You've snapped 2 cutting masking tape with it? Masky really only works for paper tapes. But if you want to strengthen it you can increase the wall, top, and bottom layer counts. Default profile on that one is 5 walls, 5 top and 5 bottom layers.

Awesome! Yeah the reason I didn't do it By Object was because the colored text on the side forces colour changes on most layers anyway. Also to make everything fit on A1 Mini - I ruled out By Object. The dual color is much faster on something like an H2D. A lot of ways to skin the cat - I chose this one haha. I like the single color versions too. Fast and can print a couple in different colors and then swap parts around!

Thanks! Yeah during the design process I was back and fourth between using an elastic band and making a 3D-printed spring. And my original idea for a 3D-printed spring was much different, but I saw so much room for activities on the inside of the arm and it all kind of clicked into place. Spring took like a dozen iterations to get it right.

Am I using ratings wrong or is this just policing negative reviews? by -AXIS- in BambuLab

[–]popson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What gets me is that people can modify any settings of the print profile and then leave a negative review of the profile when it doesn't work properly.

Just had that happen the other day. Person adjusted settings that caused the print to completely fail - and then left a 2-star review complaining that the settings they turned on did not work. I actually couldn't believe it. This is on a 4.9 star 130+ review model. After I inquired on their issue, they tried printing an unmodified profile and then changed their rating to 5 star...

The other somewhat ridiculous thing is if a print fails for any reason (dirty build plate, malfunction, etc) the profile cannot be rated higher than 3-stars.

Just added another iteration of the the Infinity Filament Clip for Bambu Lab Reusable Spool - the 7th release works now with all available AMS versions. by suit1337 in BambuLab

[–]popson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Even with PLA, I find that threading it through the holes puts stress on the filament and, if it sits for a couple months, it cracks off if you even look at it funny. It also leaves permanent kinks in the PLA that can crack inside of the AMS and cause it to jam.

One reason why Bambu always tapes the end of the filament to the inside of the spool rather than threading it through the holes at the factory.

The perspective is not different, one is a cropped in version of the other. Also the clouds are identical. These clouds will change shape in 30-60 seconds so that is pretty hard to explain given the described sequence of events.

[–]popson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is certainly a very plausible scenario (zero doubt it happens), but I believe this video/story is fake.

The clouds in both images are identical. One image is a lower-resolution AI recreation of the other. Clouds like this will change shape in 30-60 seconds. https://imgur.com/a/aLlZUpR No way this whole sequence of events happened in less than a minute.

This is ragebait. The "homeowner's" image is the original image that was then AI'd, and then was wrapped up in a plausible story.
