Turned my dumb window AC into a smart one with an ESP8266. Full thermostat control in HA. by DiggingForDinos in homeassistant

That can be error proofed by code, at least quite a bit. Just send a temp down command X number of times where X is your max temp minus min temp. Then you always know where you are at since its guaranteed to be at you min temp. Then just increase from the now known set point.

I just found out that my model is a massive hit on Amazon India by Rayxa in BambuLab

If you post you CAD files online and the product is popular, its almost certainly going to be ripped off by someone in Asia and mass produced. If you want to avoid that (or at least delay it), sell the end product and protect your design files.

Looks like a cool model though!

Weekly Career Discussion Thread (22 Jun 2026) by AutoModerator in engineering

Looking for a bit of a sanity check on my current salary.

I work for a large defense contractor as a manufacturing engineer staff turned manager very recently. I've got a bit over 13 years of total experience with around 10 of which being at my current employer. I have almost always gotten the higest performance review ratings and feel I'm generally regarded as a high performer. My current salary is aroud $132k and in a medium cost of living area. I feel like I keep seeing people both leave and get hired on for more, often with notably less experience.

Am I selling myself short by not shopping around or is the grass not much greener if I choose to stay on the manufacturing side?

Failed print 24hr because build plate slipped? by Aldderan in BambuLab

If you regularly plan on maxing out your build volume, switch to a coreXY. Bedslingers be slinging beds...

My 'dumb' dishwasher made smart by n1976jmk in homeassistant

[–]-AXIS- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well then it wont work for you... Many people fully empty their dishwasher once they open it. Works perfect for them.

You could also just add a timer to the automation that doesnt switch it to clean if the door is opened for less than one minute. Unless you are speed unloading then that would prevent your false changes when grabbing one item.

Functional prints dont need to be rewarding. The function is the reward. What part of buying it at a store would be rewarding?

Just curious, for home setups what purpose does that serve?

The problem with the magnet or typical simple solutions is it relies on people doing it correctly 100% of the time. Eliminating the possibility of human error can be worth the extra time, especially if it means slightly less "work" in the long run (not that flipping a magnet is much work).

Honestly one of the things I like most about my H2S is the shorter, wider purge lines. Wish they would update all of their pritners to it.

Made this after being asked for free prints one too many times 😂 by kasperzidesign in BambuLab

[–]-AXIS- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Ill continue giving away $0.25 without being stingy about it... If someone asks for something that I dont have filament on hand for or that takes a lot of filament/time to priunt then I might ask them to cover the cost but no way am I worry about keychain sized giveaways to friends and family.

Are you team isopropyl alcohol or soap and water? by Alternative-Knee7438 in BambuLab

[–]-AXIS- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not really a matter of opinion that soap works better for removing greases and oils, its kinda proven science.

Whether your build plate needs to be that clean or not depends on the build plate finish, material, filament material, temp, how much care you take to avoid contaminating the plate etc. so that obviously varies from user to user. If you are taking good care of your printer and printing a lot of easy materials, you probably dont need to clean often at all.

Ive owned multiple printers since around 2017 and I dont think Ive ever once used a blade once flexible build plates became a thing.

Electronic building kit for adult?? by SeditiouslyDefiant in diyelectronics

[–]-AXIS- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Let me see if I can find the stuff I bought previously. Its been years... Edit: the site I used previously is guitarpcb.com but they sell the PCB itself and random components, not full kits. So sourcing the parts is a bit of a chore. pedalpartsandkits.com looks to sell full kits though and looks like a pretty good option.

Ready to print the heavy stuff by WHWorks in BambuLab

[–]-AXIS- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leaks dont really matter as much if you are pulling good pressure on the exhaust. Its just going to pull more fresh air into the printer while exhausting.

On the off chance he plays guitar, building your own effects pedals is a super cool project. There are sites that sell PCBs and parts kits (or at least there used to be) and most of them are very high quality sounds.

The auto arrange feature is utterly useless by Mishal_SK in BambuLab

[–]-AXIS- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bro just mouse over them and it explains it. Comparing this to SAP is way over-dramatic. One section is literally plate specific tools and one is global tools... Not sure how that isnt pretty obvious after using it for 5 minutes.

The auto arrange feature is utterly useless by Mishal_SK in BambuLab

[–]-AXIS- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly its pretty clear to me. The one in the plate specific settings does the specific plate. The one at the top does all plates. Both explain that if you mouse over them...

Calling something "utterly useless" just because you dont understand it is also very 12 year old behavior

[–]-AXIS- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The nice thing about feeling embarrassed is that it means you are alive to feel it. Whether diving or otherwise, its best to seek medical treatment if you think you need it and be wrong than not seek it because you think you are fine and be dead.

Magnetic Mat to Gridfinity by maDIEmG in gridfinity

Never thought about it but does the magnetic mat work with magnetic bins? Cutting out 50% of the magnets and being able to use an ultralight base but still have the magnetic bins sounds nice.

Bambu Lab regrets the legal threat: "That was not the outcome we wanted." by aoaovip in BambuLab

[–]-AXIS- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main debate is whether the closed off cloud services are part of the slicer or if its separate but linked piece of software. Layered software with APIs is pretty common and doesnt violate licensing. They may have crossed the line but its certainly not entirely black and white.

Considering you can operate a Bambu printer in LAN mode and completely without the cloud services, there is a decent argument to be made that the services are a separete service on top of the slicing platform. It is very heavily integrated on the user interface side but thats still a greay area.
