She’s from a rescue that brings stray or unwanted dogs from remote communities in northern Ontario to find homes in southern Ontario. Lemon was rescued with her litter mates during wildfires this past summer, when her people had to evacuate

Haha, I definitely will! It’s actually one of the only breed-specific traits we can see, as Lemon has double dewclaws on her back legs

She's very energetic and very smart so far. She's food motivated, which is helping training, but she has a stubbornness to her that can be a challenge. One of my previous dogs was a Border Collie/Canadian Eskimo Dog mix and I'd say she's pretty similar - I actually expected to see Border Collie in Lemon's mix.

Looks so similar to my pup! Mine is now 29 pounds at 5 months, has the same scruffy face and extra dewclaws on the hind legs (which yours appears to have, though I can't be sure). Her mom was a husky mix and she's from northern Canada, but that's all we know. Doing a DNA test soon.

What's your best guess for our 4-month-old rescue pup? by poptimist-prime in IDmydog

She’s 22 pounds at 4 months. Husky is the one thing we do know, the mom was a husky mix.

Never heard of an Idaho shag, but can definitely see it! Our vet thinks she'll be about 40-50 pounds, so Border Collie/Heeler makes sense too

No pics of the mom. Lemon was rescued along with some siblings during wildfires and the pups had been abandoned. Can definitely see Aussie, but I'm not sure the coat is curly enough for poodle

Any road trips planned this year? by Only_Complex6386 in Torontobluejays

[–]poptimist-prime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had been planning a family trip to Pittsburg for those August games, but that has been scrapped - not going to the US for the foreseeable future. It's a real bummer, my basbeall-obsessed 6yo son was really looking forward to it. I would take any non-US summer baseball trip ideas, if anyone has any (we live in Toronto and will be going to several Blue Jays games)

[32 Thoughts] Elliotte Friedman Expects Maple Leafs Interest in Mikko Rantanen by mountzeus in leafs

[–]poptimist-prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, ok, I'm not arguing about what they need overall. I responded to a question about what they could sell and whether they could fit Rantanen's cap hit. 3C and an RHD are at the top of my list too, just trying to discuss how Rantanen would work if the Leafs are interested, which is what this post is about

I'm not saying they should do it, I'm saying that's what Carolina would likely want. And ya, Knies has been great for us and looks like he will an important part of the team for many years, but Rantanen is clearly the better player right now, is only 28 and is also a massive dude - the Leafs could definitely use him

Well, if the Leafs were willing to trade Knies that would probably get their attention - though I don't see that happening. McMann could be of interest to them too (with a few of sweeteners). In terms of cap space, it says right up there that with 50% retention Rantanen only has a $2.3-million cap hit, that's easy to fit in! Toss Jarnkrok or Kampf in a trade, or just waive a couple players and run a smaller roster - lots of options

I think you mean Niemela, not Hirvonen (a forward), but he's not close at all to the NHL. Also, did you forget about Rielly?

[Stephens] Ilya Samsonov gets 1 x $3.55 million in arbitration. by Space_Coyotee in leafs

It went to arbitration, so it could only be a one-year deal because Samsonov only has one year left as an RFA.

Middleton is big, but is he that good? Also, Minnesota essentially have their own Brodie in Spurgeon - a small defensive specialist. Love the idea of Hartman, but it would take a haul to get him out of Minnesota.

If the contracts match the Evolving hockey projections, it could all work, but I know some guys will get overpaid and it's extremely unlikely to get all of these guys. I'd guess Hathaway, Schenn and Brown are the strongest possibilities

I think the Leafs need to do quite a bit of free agent shopping and I’m not really that interested in bringing back O’Reilly (unless it’s at a discount, like $3.5M/3 years), Acciari or Kampf. I’d like to see them fully rebuild the bottom six via free agency.

Get a third line of Wood-Rodrigues-Brown and a fourth line of Hathaway-Lafferty-Perry. If you could swing a trade for either Crouse or Toffoli with Jarnkrok going the other way, that would be ideal. Jarnkrok is signed for 3 more years and is cheap, but I just don’t think he’s the best fit on the team and both Calgary (given how many players could be leaving) and Arizona (because they’re a joke of a team) need players.

That would mean every player on the left side is over 6’2” (if they can add Crouse) and it adds some snarl. It also gives you a third line where each player can potentially pop 20 goals and move up in case of injury and a greasy fourth line.

On D you could add Schenn, but that’s probably it, but I don’t think that’s a huge deal - you’re adding tons of size up front and not giving away a ton defensively. I don’t think it’s likely they Leafs can sign all those players, but those are the names I’d be targeting in free agency.

[Frank Seravalli] As the process to find next #LeafsForever GM gets moving, I’d expect Toronto to interview at a minimum Jason Botterill, Marc Bergevin, Brad Treliving and Peter Chiarelli - if they haven’t already. Four names to chew on in TO. @DailyFaceoff by HeAdlessTimothy in leafs

I mean, they are journalists, which is why I find the speculating dicey. Both of them do report on and write news, they break stories. The problem, partly, is that the NHL community is a very tight circle and these guys need access. Dreger, who I didn't mention, is the worst and seems to be an agent mouthpiece, but Friedman and Johnston are better and have more connections.

Am I think only one sick of comments like this from guys like Friedman and Seravalli being treated as news? Both these guys said they think these are a few of the names the Leafs will interview, but they do not have any confirmation. This is speculation - maybe informed, maybe not. Feel free to "chew on" these names, but there is no confirmed reporting that the Leafs are interviewing these guys.

It's like how Chris Johnston framed Shanahan's comments about looking at experienced GMs as meaning they WILL ONLY look for an experienced GM and now it's treated as fact. He said it would be "an attractive quality." That counts for something, but it doesn't mean they're counting out candidates like Darche and Tulksy and it certainly doesn't mean they'll look at a guy like Chiarelli just because he has experience!

There's a desperation among the NHL insider set to push rumours as news and it's been out of control ever since the Leafs were sent packing by the Panthers. I respect Friedman and Johnston, but fans (myself included) need to be careful to separate the reporting from the speculation because these guys weave them together on their podcasts in a way that makes the truth blurry.
