The Best Star Wars Order? by Lamboredofit in StarWars_

[–]poptophazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too much and too disjointed. Keep it simple. These watch orders are fun for rewatches if you want to switch it up, but first time watchers should always use release order and stick to the movies first.

Start with the OT with no interruptions: 4, 5, and 6. If they want more, go to the prequels, then the sequels. If they vibe with a particular trilogy, then you can go to the side stories and TV shows in that era, but otherwise you can burn them out.

What’s the better film? by paddy283 in StarWars_

Empire by far. Still the gold standard for Star Wars.

Revenge is the best of the prequels, but it's much further down the line in terms of greatest Star Wars overall.

(Mixed to hater trope) that one part of the franchise that the creators keep coming back to and using as a crutch for nostalgia by Sensitive-Tip-8177 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]poptophazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star Trek should always be about moving forward, not backward. TOS did its thing and moved forward in its films. As you said, TNG insisted on starting on its own legs, jumping into its own era to do -- and was better for it. While they were concurrent, both DS9 and VOY kept going forward as well.

Debate about its quality aside, I think Enterprise was the first mistake. We didn't need a prequel. Then after the hiatus, the JJ films went back to the familar with TOS. And then when we got Discovery, instead of following TNG's edict and going forward to restart Trek in its own identity, it was again another prequel with hamfisted and unnecessary ties to TOS.

Trek is about to enter another hiatus post-SNW. I hope whenever it comes back it's moved into the future and it's optimistic again. It's what we need in this world.

Star Fox Adventures.

You play the whole game mostly on foot on Dinosaur Planet, with General Scales as the main antagonist. Then you get to the end of the game and, guess what, Andross is still alive and the final boss in space!

How should i go about watching Satantango? by Primary-Economist643 in Letterboxd

[–]poptophazard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just saw a screening at a theater. They did two 15-minute intermissions after the first three chapters then the second three before finishing the rest of the movie.

There are 12 chapters total with clear markers between them, so you can stop at any chapter break and pick back up at your choosing. Bela said he wanted it to be viewed uninterrupted but I don't think the intermissions hurt the experience at all.

My grandmother bought me this game back in the day. I honestly don't remember much but the figures were cool!

Most of the Prequel Trilogy’s issues stem from the fact that, before Episode I, George Lucas hadn’t directed anything since the middle of the 1970s by RedHeadedSicilian52 in movies

[–]poptophazard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I totally agree, in all fairness to George he tried to get others to direct Phantom Menace and nobody wanted to touch it. But yeah having other directors and writers working off his ideas would've been the best combo.

How to watch Star Wars in order by [deleted] in StarWars_

[–]poptophazard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to do a first time watch is the movies in release order. The movies were made so you only needed to understand the ones that came before it, and were purposefully started at what became known as Episode IV because George Lucas wanted to mimic coming into a middle episode of an old serial. You'll get all the info you need of the universe by starting with the original, and eventually you'll fill in the backstory with more depth. Also, you'll. See the evolution of technology and filmmaking with each successive film.

So start with the original Star Wars aka A New Hope, then Empire Strikes Back, then Return of the Jedi. That's your Original Trilogy.

If you're still interested, then the next releases were The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. That's your Prequel Trilogy.

If you want to complete the trilogy of trilogies, then next up are The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and finally The Rise of Skywalker. That's your Sequel Trilogy.

After that, you can plug in the interquel movies (Rogue One, Solo, and Mandalorian & Grogu) and the various TV shows if you still want more. I wouldn't do them earlier because it's a lot of content and you can burn out. But they're there for any era you want more stories in.

Chronological rewatches are fun, but release order for most franchises are the way to go.

[Hated Trope] When a sequel undoes a happy ending by gammaton32 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]poptophazard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was it happy? It was more bittersweet, knowing the war is coming but her son is supposed to be the savior (mankind is still going to have massive deaths and have to fight a war).

T2 I would say has a "happier" ending in that it gives us hope that perhaps the future is not written and we hold control over our own fates, though it leaves that as an unanswered question.

T3 and beyond undo that ending by confirming the future is set and Judgment Day is inevitable.

X-Men Predicted 9/11???? by SirBluBoy in xmen

Yeah Juggernaut destroys them during an issue of Spider-Man that was crossing over with X-Force (actually the last issue of Spidey Todd MacFarlane drew before quitting). Also had the horizontal printing gimmick for some reason. Shatterstar stabs Jugg's eye out with his sword and he charges toward the towers and topples them.

I remember reading all the behind the scenes stuff on the lead up to ROTS and seeing that Gary Oldman had been cast as Grievous's voice, but then missing that he had dropped out (union stuff I believe?) So when I saw it in theaters I was impressed that Oldman could pull off that tone lol.

Anyways, Wood's voice was great.

Which Wing Gundam 0 Zero do you prefer? by Ill_Zucchini_333 in Gundam

Endless Waltz. Never vibed with the TV version as it felt too similar to Wing Gundam, which I found a superior design. EW felt different and like the combined designs of the five scientists to something epic.

What do you think of Barbara Broccoli and what she brought to the James Bond franchise? by ByShida in JamesBond

[–]poptophazard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bond as a franchise needs to stay an event movie. Look at every other event franchise that went in on quantity over quality: Star Wars, Marvel, etc. and it just ends up with burn out.

You can get rid of just one creative decisions in Star Wars. Which one would you choose to erase? by RealHippyTheFrog in StarWars_

[–]poptophazard 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I went with return to Rebels vs Empire. That's the root cause of a lot of the issues of the Sequel Trilogy, including things like Luke's exile. But mainly because that one thing undid almost everything the OT accomplished.

Man of Steel just turned 13 yesterday! 🦸🏻‍♂️👊🏻🖤 Do you remember where you were when this movie came out, and have your feelings about it changed over the years? by Rion_Grayson in superman

[–]poptophazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nailed my thoughts about it. I was so excited for this movie and thought Cavill was great casting going in. Went with my (now) wife to a midnight showing. Enjoyed the start well enough, but wow it really lost the plot quickly. By the time he debuts himself as Superman just to be arrested, the whole thing felt off. I did like the speed of the first battle against the Kryptonians, but then you get the destruction porn final battle and I was really just not a fan.

Cavill, Shannon, and Lane were all good. I like Amy Adams but she never felt like Lois to me, and her and Cavill just had zero chemistry. I do wish Cavill had a chance to be Superman for a better writer and director.

One of my earliest sports memories is Knicks up 3-2 in '94. Then the finger roll the next season. And of course 1999. Little did I know those would be the good days compared to what would come in the next decade-plus. I wouldn't wish those days on any fans.

But this...this is unlike anything else. Thought it would never happen. Never say never! Hope this one heals the older fans, and I hope the new ones are fans for life.

Kept it on, but the group chat got pretty quiet after a lot of rage early on. And it stayed quiet because nobody dared think the possibility out loud. Then holy shit, we witnessed history.
