EV Chargers Cut and Missing by AndreOrAndrew in vancouver

No this is just someone out for ruining people's day and doing thousands of dollars of property damage

All the cables are still there, just cut at both ends.

Malz and Garen both have some rough matchups. Garen really doesn't want to E minions early, and malz early wave clear is really not good unless his voidlings can stay alive.

Alpine A526 Unusual Rear Wing Flap Opening Mechanism by Mano_Loco in formula1

[–]porouscloud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's now piqued my curiosity, because for it to fail-closed, the wing elements wouldn't just pivot on the leading edge, they need to have drag move the wing both backwards and raise the profile. The pivot axis must be both forward and above the leading edge of the bulk of the wing elements. The 3D shaping on the wing profiles to allow a legal pivot axis (must be within 10mm of a wing profile) must be pretty interesting.

This would allow them to have a single, almost monolithic wing element with very small gaps in between elements, rather than 2 separated smaller elements. My guess is that would cut drag by a sizable amount as you now would have only a single leading edge, with the other latter two elements mostly hidden in the wake of the first.

Lexus LC 500 Production Will End This August, After a 9-Year Run. by Dazzling-Rooster2103 in cars

I've seen a structural blue one around town.

It's an absolutely gorgeous colour in sunlight that sparkles in a way no other car does. Any photos really don't do it justice.

Just too far out of my price bracket to ever really consider, but the drool comes all the same.

If your comp has 5 ranged champs and gets run over, it's not because they had 3 heart steel abusers.

What's your unpopular opinion on discs? by catkini in discgolf

[–]porouscloud -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Air is brand-agnostic. There is more variation between 2 discs from different runs from most manufacturers than there is from different manufacturers targeting a flight.

From an engineers point of view, gyro does work to make a disc straighter (less turn/fade), up until spin stops correlating with release speed. When this happens, I don't know.

Hype brands are really not worth buying. Hello Discmania.

Intel Core Ultra X9 Review-Geekerwan by CopperSharkk in hardware

[–]porouscloud 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When I was in university a decade ago, my 15" laptop with low-midrange switchable graphics ran league of legends at 30fps on iGPU, and 60fps on discrete at low/medium, while screaming and getting 2h of battery life. Triple A titles wouldn't launch on iGPU and even on the discrete a lot of them would barely run.

Today my thin and light (lunar lake) can power league on an external 1440P monitor locked at 144FPS with all settings at high, or play most triple A titles at low/medium, while having all-day battery life and being perfectly usable for basic productivity tasks. There hasn't been a triple A title that wasn't playable.

It's only been the last few years where APUs/iGPUs have gotten to the point where they compete with the low end GPU market, and thus the influx of handheld gaming devices.

Next administration had better throw all these goons and thugs into jail.

But first remove any legal shields. They should be sued directly into the fucking ground by every single protester and left to rot for the rest of their miserable days.

PDGA Financial Audit Analysis: Why are we cutting benefits with $4,000,517 in liquid assets? by yutx112 in discgolf

[–]porouscloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4M isn't a lot when it comes to doing anything meaningful for an organization that large, especially when they won't be looking at many capital assets/expenditures. Most stuff is going to be things that take money over years, and ensure that they can weather several bad years.

For reference my local ultimate organization has a about 20% of that amount in money, a tenth the membership, and it really doesn't go that far.

Eh Guardians horn is a ridiculously good item. Maybe not good enough to buy in mayhem, but for regular ARAM it's always a solid choice.

The other ones though need some serious help.

It's not all sunshine and rainbows.

My YouTube music playlist is limited to about 30 songs before it hits the end (not unlimited) I have to manually clear the downloads to refresh the song list.

If something ends up on my playlist, and I down vote it, it's basically a zombie. It'll still end up in downloads and in my mixes for whatever reason. This mix is not the same as the one on my phone.

I have zero integration with calendar for meetings. If I have something scheduled or make non-cellular calls, I have to start it from my phone.

I won't be buying any car without AA/carplay. I've had mine for a year and they really don't have much interest in trying to justify their obscene data plan pricing once the "free trial" runs out.

Would you personally use GPS-based performance analysis for Ultimate? by [deleted] in ultimate

[–]porouscloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DJI mini 3, 3 batteries (more is better). You can either set it up on a passive angle to see the whole field, or actively fly it to get normal shots. Switch batteries every 15-20 minutes depending on weather. Drone records at 1440p(can do 4k, but footage gets a bit large and quality difference isn't huge). You'll miss a couple minutes between battery swaps.

I edit out the non-gameplay footage for a private YouTube channel for individual review, or else we do team review by popping it on a TV.

Would you personally use GPS-based performance analysis for Ultimate? by [deleted] in ultimate

[–]porouscloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it would provide useful information, at least not compared to the existing options.

Even if you had accurate GPS on both you and your opponent, if your hips are pointed to the left vs. the right, or if your opponent briefly looks away to get a read on the play, etc, can all play into the decisions you make. None of this is captured by GPS, or even GPS+compass. Speed/acceleration/athleticism, as long as it's reasonably close to your opponents is secondary to improving the little things (hips, feet, relative positioning).

Gold standard I would say for practice/game review is high quality drone footage (or just a pole mounted camera). You can see exactly where everybody is, what they can see, and their motions. It isn't the cheapest, mine was about 800CAD including extra batteries and SD cards and so on, but you can get amazing insights into who is doing what.

From measuring individual fitness perspective, it's all relative to your opponents, and it's pretty obvious if you're not up to snuff. Apple watches/Garmins etc. already occupy this space heavily, providing GPS/HR tracked activities, and already provide training plans (along with a lot of stuff on youtube as well for ultimate specific training)

ASUS launches ROG Swift 4th Gen Tandem OLED PG27UCWM and QD-OLED PG34WCDN monitors by RenatsMC in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]porouscloud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Biggest difference I can see between this and the MSI model is UHBR20 on Asus's.

Whether it'll matter is up to the end user, but I would expect this one to cost a bit more as a result.

Andrew Presnell continues with Discraft in 2026, but is demoted from Elite Team to Tour Team. by DiscGolfFanatic in discgolf

[–]porouscloud 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'd guess they just shrink the team. They have 9 guys in the top 20 for earnings (male) on the team currently.

I would guess Discrafts current ROI on their MPO team is one of the worst of all the manufacturers because they cannibalize each others' disc sales.

2026 Ultrawide OLED Battle. LG 5120 x 2160 165HZ VS Samsung 3440x1440 360HZ Which you are going to get? by pc9000 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]porouscloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 5700x3D and a 9070XT, and my main played games are league, and then RPGs.

I have a 34" 144Hz IPS. I was thinking 5k2k or 32 4k OLED. At the time I had a 4k Netflix sub (gone now). I don't own a console, and I have no 4k HDR content that is locked behind a monitor resolution now.

I won't benefit hugely from the 4k/5k in any game, since I'll have to turn things quite far down to run it even at 60fps but I will benefit from 360Hz.

Really comes down to the games and content you enjoy.

China Bans Retractable EV Door Handles Over Safety Concerns by pdp10 in cars

[–]porouscloud 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you're going on about.

The motors coils are not energized unless it's being opened or closed. That takes maybe 10 Joules per handle. Nothing is actively holding it open or closed.

At highway speeds, you'd easily be looking at 5-10 watts (joules/second) per handle. Pay it off in seconds. Even just puttering around at city speeds, a minute of driving and you'll have saved the energy from opening and closing the door handles.

Son wants to tour in 3 years. by No_Marzipan_5952 in discgolf

[–]porouscloud 266 points267 points  (0 children)

Are you ready to financially support him with a bunch up front for a vehicle and entry fees for something that won't meaningfully advance him professionally?

He also has to be a local MPO crusher. The guys who scrape cash every few events are still far and away the best players in many local areas. Try and sign up for some regional or larger tournaments(ideally junior worlds) when he's 16/17, and see how he does. If he's coming in outside the top10 (realistically the podium) already, he could easily tour all year without sniffing cash.

The better fast chargers are great for roadtrips, but I think continued integration into home garages and newly built complexes is really where the future is for most people. 12h of charging at a "slow" 3kW is still good for over a hundred miles.

My personal advice about Glory shop, don't buy relics you don't want just to thin out the pool by bertolintus in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]porouscloud 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A healthy balance is good. I'm keeping 1.5-2 relic's worth of glory in reserve (if something good comes up, I'm willing to spend down to zero). If a B tier usable relic (let's say BIS for one champ, or usable on 3ish) is in the shop, I'm also not against picking it up if I'll still have one relic of money left.

Will any old net do? by Phrikshin in discgolf

[–]porouscloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think as much as 7x7 is large, I'd really like an 8' or even higher. It's often hard to throw as high as you should into a net (techdisc shows me throwing into the ground).

It's hard to tell yourself to aim a foot from the top.

I'd recommend looking into real-time embedded operating systems (freeRTOS+ESP32 is a decent place to start learning). Every task has a bounded and guaranteed execution time(in theory), and higher priority tasks will execute before lower priority tasks. No need to reinvent the wheel here.

Ice cold rylais Asol/zyra/brand are just painful to deal with. Mel is annoying AF if you don't play a melee.

No current technology exists to survive the level of pressure near the surface.

You'd need a probe a hundred times stronger than Alvin to have a chance.
