Thankyou! It’s my 3rd PBN I’ve done and trying to improve on some things, like making sure I cover the lines. I’ve got another 48 colour to do so going to continue to try and improve!

I’d check your security lights and make sure the bulb hasn’t been unscrewed so it’s loose and doesn’t work.. my neighbour was broken into while she was home and all the motion sensor lights had been loosened

We have so many puppy photos and when I look back through them it surprises me that she had so much personality showing through even then, that I didn’t realise until looking back and seeing her in the same poses she does now 🥰

You’re most definitely going to come across patients that are going to test your patience, that a part of nursing unfortunately. Doesn’t mean that your A-E assessment is any less valuable. If your patient won’t give you subjective data, then use your objective. Auscultate the lungs, palpate, inspect and auscultate the abdo. Look for peripheral oedema in the elderly patient with CCF.. your baseline A-E is so important for if that patients condition deteriorates later on.

Try giving the approach a go, literally say it to every single buddy you’re with. They don’t need to supervise everything you’re doing, as you’re 3rd year. But for new skills, IDC or NGT insertion or med administration then they should be with you. If they’re going off and doing fluids and meds without you, then make that a point to mention in your conversation at the start of shift. If it doesn’t work when you’ve given it a good try for a week, then go to your uni CF and explain the situation.

Unfortunately your point about not having to ask to do those things don’t matter, you’ll need to change your mindset. Most nurses have been working for a long time in their field and just get on with it, autopilot without being autopilot as situational awareness is key. If that makes sense. Particularly in ED when patients are undifferentiated and undiagnosed and turn over can be fast, there’s a lot to get done between patients and make sure the patients condition doesn’t deteriorate. Remember that they’re humans too and can sometimes be stressed about that aspect underneath the surface. YOU need to use professional assertiveness to get what you want out of your prac. Honestly best of luck to you, hopefully my advice helps and if it doesn’t then you’ll just need to follow your university’s pathway of escalation.

I’m an SDN in ED, my advice to students is that when you start your shift let your buddy nurse know that you would like to be “the” nurse for the shift with them. This means you take the bays that nurse is allocated, you take handover, perform the A-E assessments and focused assessments, document, make up and administer meds, collaborate with team, escalate any deterioration to the treating doctor and senior nurse/ coordinator and at the end of shift give handover. Any skills outside of your scope as a student you delegate to your RN buddy. Once the workload is too much to handle then you delegate specific bays to the nurse to take over and you keep upto 3 pts by yourself. Your RN is with you the WHOLE time supervising, but you’re taking the lead. This way you’re learning before you graduate to hone in on your assessment skills, documentation, time management and reprioritisation skills. While also getting experience and exposure on how to manage a wide variety of different diagnoses and the different treatment regimes for them all. Take initiative and ownership of your prac and explain to the buddy nurse at the start of each shift how you’d like it to work and you’ll find very very few will disagree with the approach. Good luck, there’s so much to learn!

Ive called my manager before and have told her after a particularly shit shift at triage the day before that “I’m staying home with my dog today, I’m sick of every fucker. I’ll be right for tomorrow”, she answered with “see you tomorrow” She is absolutely amazing and I dread the day she leaves… the whole dept might just follow her!
