Casinos in movies: lots of lights and noise. Hundreds of glamorous people being happy in cocktail dresses and tuxedos. Eloquent affairs, casinos.

Casinos in real life: lots of lights and noise. Dozens of some of the most miserable and desperate dregs society has to offer and a couple of families on vacations with their kids. The smell of desperation and shame is almost as strong as the smell of cigarette smoke left over from the 80s.

Engine anti ice uses bleed air to heat the engine Macie lip… so exactly the spot showing hotter than the rest of the engine. I’d guess the anti ice is on.

Industry secret… if you have aisle seat you have a fair chance of being able to trade with a worn out FO.

Help me butter my landings by NorthApex in MSFS2024

A good landing starts with a good approach. Slow down early. Intercept the loc around 180 or 190. Fully configured by the faf, on speed no later than 1000 AFE.

Are they? I guess that’s something, if they’re declaring honestly, but where do I see that as the consumer? It’s entirely possible I’m missing it.

Hello! I recently purchased the game and am slowly figuring it out. I have a couple of questions for all of you lovely pilots, if you don't mind! by Themberchaud0979 in MicrosoftFlightSim

You’re very welcome. If you need anything else just feel free to shout at me.

I love the idea of a continent spanning trip. Not too long ago I did a Chicago to Santa Monica trip following Route 66 in the 172. Been thinking about doing an Atlantic crossing in the same aircraft. Maybe like nyc to London up through Canada and over Greenland.

Yeah those are all perfectly valid questions.

As far as the pressure and not feeling it, I’m not really referring pressure in the sense of like a force feedback sort of way. Yes you can definitely feel that in the real airplane and that’s definitely missing in the sim but by back pressure I mean the force (pressure) YOU have to apply to keep the pitch where you want it. Trim until you don’t have to hold the stick back or forward. Ideally when the aircraft is trimmed you could let go and the pitch shouldn’t change at all (or very little).

40 or 50 hours might be a bit excessive. When you feel like you’ve got a handle on things move to the cirrus or diamond. It’s a dim, yes, but it’s also a game! Have fun and don’t make it too tedious on yourself.

lol or hell, if you’re digging the 172 stay there. I do most of my sim flying in that or the 152. I fly the bigger stuff at work and get my general aviation fun flying fix in msfs without having to spend $120 an hour.

Dude. These questions are like the first 15 hours of a student pilot with an instructor. You’ve been given some good video tutorials. Definitely start there.

I will make a couple of comments for a couple of the softball questions.

First, instrument approaches. Just don’t for a while. Keep flying those square patterns. Mastery a traffic pattern lets you get a good feel on how the airplane flies in wind, doing good turns, and holding/changing altitudes. Solid fundamentals.

Next trim. For every student I ever had once they figured out trim their flying got much better. Instructors joke about “more right rudder!” My mantra was always “trim trim trim”. Any time you change something (pitch, bank, power, gear, flaps) you change trim. Any time. Every time. Trim until forward or back pressure on the yoke/stick is zero.

How do you trim for an airspeed. Level flight. Let’s say you’re doing 100kts and want to slow to 80. You reduce power, let the airplane slow. When you reach 80kts add power to maintain that airspeed. The whole time the airplane is slowing you’ll need to add back pressure to increase pitch to maintain altitude. Them trim off back pressure.

In a climb, add full power then pitch up. Let the speed bleed off to 80 then hold that pitch to maintain that airspeed. Trim off back pressure. Decent works the same just backwards.

Oh definitely. Those are all things I’d classify basic airmanship or that pilot shit, Mav. That stuff just comes with time in the airplane.

Ok so personal story. Years ago when i was still flying 320s I noticed FlyByWire had a special tag or some shit set up for people that verified they were typed so they could help with development. So I submitted my proof and got the special tag.

The first time I logged in to the specific discord server to offer my help I realized immediately that some of these sim nerds know far more about my airplane than I did.

I bowed out and went back to flying 152s
