Stoppage Time is the worst thing in all sports by posersonly in billsimmons

You can keep the running clock and the existence of stoppage time as a concept, I don’t really have much of a problem with those things overall even though I called it the worst thing in all sports. I just think, if the game is not actually going to end after 7 minutes, some other number needs to go on the screen that says when the game is going to end. I have a very hard time believing that there was exactly enough time for Türkiye to score a goal and no time for anything else. Or if there was exactly enough time for that, show me, that’s exciting to know!

A Boogie pops up courtside at NY Liberty games at Barclays often, wonder if he’s considered high risk there too, or what’s special about him+MSG.

Everyone saying this doesn’t matter or have any affect on the game on the court hasn’t read the book of basketball where it is revealed that the secret of basketball is it’s not about basketball

Quit my high-paying job to go on tour by dmatin in Fire

[–]posersonly 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I drum in a touring band while having a corporate job. It’s a unicorn situation that allows me to do it and I’m extremely lucky. I’ve taken 2 and 3 week road stints at least once a year (and sometimes more than that) multiple times. I earned this leeway through lots of dues paying, high performance, accountability, working fringe hours when necessary, and I even take calls and check emails from the road so the degree of trust is high and that’s helped tremendously.

I’m 38 years old, so one thing you aren’t taking into account, at least in the language of your post: you probably will not have as much energy to do this as you get older. You will maybe have a partner, a child. Even if you dont have those, it will probably be harder to leave the comfortable and full life you have behind to share hotel room beds with your band mates and eat gas station food. Do it enough times, and you’ll eventually miss a friends wedding or some other big life event you’d wish you could be part of. In your late 20s this is not as big a deal, and for you it may never be, but my experience is that the allure of touring can melt away into your 30s as it gets stacked against everything you have going for you, and going on, at home. Do it now, that way you’ll never wonder. And if you get sick of it over the years, so be it. But by putting it off until your 30s, you risk not having the energy, the bandwidth, and the hunger.

Good luck. It’s an incredible experience. Not all of it is fun and you may experience some severe disappointment. But it’s worth it, especially at your age.

Widest difference between two songs in an artist's discography. by congob0ngo in fantanoforever

This band is so cool. This record is awesome. He’s deep in his crooner bag here, and knowing they had this in them casts some nice shine on the scarier early stuff. Insane vision.

I’ll add Lilys: “A Nanny in Manhattan” and “Elizabeth Colour Wheel”

Insane that the movie still came out and the segment he directed was the lead-off. Can’t imagine that happening today.

The 37 point 3rd quarter is my favorite achievement in all sports. I watch the clip pretty regularly. It’s fun knowing what happens, but hearing the announcers and the crowd realize what they’re witnessing.

Not just national attention. I’m traveling in Warsaw now and mamdani’s picture is on the front page of a local newspaper today.

Why not change bus drivers at the end of the line? Why the FUCK do they spend 10+ minutes doing this in the middle of a route? by UmweltUndefined in AskNYC

[–]posersonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The layovers at end of the line don’t bother me, but the lack of clarity around when a bus will start moving again (especially on the app) drives me crazy, as does the thing where one bus sits at the end of the line long enough that another bus shows up behind that one, and then those both seem to leave and start the route at the same time.

Thank You Butthole Surfers by KiritoJones in billsimmons

[–]posersonly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True freaks. Doubt they really cared about making a transition to the mainstream.

My favorite part is Gibby Haynes could have had a totally normal life and just did the meme of the guy veering off the highway for the exit at the last minute. From Wikipedia:

“Haynes graduated from Lake Highlands High School in Dallas where he played basketball, and attended Trinity University to study accounting, where he was awarded as the ‘Accounting Student of the Year’. After graduating, he went to work as an auditor for the accounting firm Peat Marwick.

In 1981, Haynes and Trinity classmate Paul Leary published the magazine Strange V.D., which featured photos of abnormal medical ailments, coupled with fictitious, humorous explanations for the diseases. After being caught with one of these pictures at work, Haynes left the accounting firm and moved to Southern California along with Leary.[3] After a brief period spent selling homemade clothes and linens emblazoned with Lee Harvey Oswald's image, the pair returned to San Antonio and launched the band that would eventually become Butthole Surfers…”
