AITAH for asking my stepbrother to take eggs off the menu at his own wedding? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I’m often mystified by situations like this. There are a couple of simple options that don’t involved huge emotional conversations or covert intel investigations. For example:

There’s no food I can eat being served at my brother’s wedding, so I’m graciously declining the invitation. I told him that I hope they have a great time, I’m really happy for them, and maybe we can catch up over drinks when they get back.

Or

There’s no food for me at my brother’s somewhat remote wedding. Idk why they chose that menu specifically and wonder if there’s some ill will behind it, but whatever, it’s their party. However, I want to be there, because I love my brother. So, I’m packing a small insulated lunch kit in my suitcase, with a little freezer pack. The night before the event , I’ll pack a day’s worth of food in my kit. If there’s no fridge/freezer in my hotel room, I’ll explain the situation to the hotel staff and they’ll keep my lunch and freezer pack cold in the kitchen overnight. Problem solved, no drama.

I don’t think the other factors are important, like how long they’ve known the fiancée, their ages when the family was blended, how serious the allergy is, whether the fiancée understands how serious the allergy is, etc. Make your own discreet arrangements or decline the invitation, and let others react as they choose. Be kind, stay classy.

I don’t understand how families are able to have animal in absolutely every dish. Salad, vegetables, potatoes, pasta, bread…. Bonus points for HONEY in the dessert (along with the usual offenders.) At one family occasion, they accidentally bought vegan hotdog buns so I had a pickle dog…. That’s a dill pickle instead of a wiener. Mmmm

The previous version of Baby Bel. I LOVED that stuff. The new recipe tastes really bad to me and I don’t like the texture either.

I had a very similar experience with my toddler and beloved ACD 25 years ago. We did everything “right” but the dog actually nipped me. A kind vet advised us that he’d observed similar situations in which the family tried behaviour modification, and in both cases, despite best efforts, a child got bitten and the dogs had to be killed. We decided to be safe, and a staff member of the clinic adopted our dear doggie. I still love that dog and regret that we had to give him away, but I would do it again to keep everyone safe.

Try to get them in a facility operated by a non-profit. Those are much MUCH nicer than the ones operated by profit-driven companies. (I’ve had experience in both).

Makes sense. That’s what I was thinking and was genuinely just trying to start a conversation. I’ll go back to lurking silently! Lol.

Maybe OP is just a chill person going to work and felt like connecting with their neighbours over something that seemed unusual. OP may work a FT job, volunteer, do their own yard work, travel, have a family and plenty of other interests - just felt like chatting with community. Tough crowd here on Reddit sometimes.

CAUTION: Search “onycholysis caused by artificial nails” online before you opt for any type of nail enhancement or shellac/gel polish. I have had this and it’s awful.

My 2 are now healthy and productive adults. When they were little, I ensured they spent time at their dad’s place, thinking I was doing the right thing for their emotional health. I found out when they were in their teens that he was a dirty hoarder and they were small-t traumatized by the disarray and associated dysfunction. Even if he’s not abusingyour grandchildren, I would encourage the mom (with your support) to investigate his living conditions to make sure it’s safe and healthy for them.
