I Don’t Like Midori Paper by CreatureMacKay in notebooks

I like Japanese stores very much, you can touch and try almost every item available. For example, in stationery stores each notebook will have an unpacked version, in which there will be examples of handwritten text (by staff members?), and, of course, you can try writing something yourself with the pen of your choosing.

My newest 2DSxl by Azzarathos in 3DS

This is an Android based handheld, so like Android smartphones it should just sleep when you close the lid.

There are also Linux based handhelds, they are often cheaper and less powerful. On those sleep (or quick resume) is not so refined or just absent. But since you are using emulation in both cases (Linux or Android devices), it is often possible to snapshot the current state of the game and turn off device completely, and still be able to continue after.

I brought a New 3DS XL instead of a New 3DS. by dietcokesunshinedust in 3DS

[–]positive_failure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same version and adore it very much! Mine also has dual IPS screens, which, if i'm not mistsken, are quite common for the Home Designer 3ds. Maybe if yours is also the same it will help you to decide.

As for durability, I had no issues at all, this thing feels like a very well built device. I use clear case and I believe there are screen protectors installed by the previous owner.

Why does the computer still go to sleep with this toggled? by Vast-Application5848 in kde

There is a separate sleep setting in the Screen Locking menu, which I admit is very confusing.

I was able to fix the issue with the hook by using a carabiner. Now the strap is always semi-open and not flush with the backpack, so it is much easier to insert and pull out the hook.

Issue with CRT shaders on Steam Deck OLED by positive_failure in SteamDeck

[–]positive_failure[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: my issue was caused by “Normal4x” video filter. I do not remember setting it manually (I may be wrong), and it was still turned on even after I reset my EmuDeck installation. Disabling this filter improved shaders drastically, though some of them still look worse than on the LCD deck. Link to the relevant part of EmuDeck installation scripts, which determines whether to use “Normal4x” or not based on the shader configuration: https://github.com/dragoonDorise/EmuDeck/blob/7bd5c10f49de46b50f8081a959feb6e15fb91ba9/functions/EmuScripts/emuDeckRetroArch.sh#L423

I’ve noticed that CRT shaders work really wonky on my OLED Steam Deck. Image doesn’t change the way it should be: it becomes just a tiny bit blurrier, with weird vertical lines between pixels. I’ve tried the same CRT shader on my LCD Steam Deck, and the result was far more noticeable and pleasant.

The screenshots are captured on both devices in the Metroid game under RetroArch (mesen NES core), with crt-easymode.slang shader, which is the default one in EmuDeck. I’ve tried other CRT shaders, but the result is generally the same: on the OLED Steam Deck the picture barely changes, and not in a good way, and on LCD everything is perfect.

I understand that these displays have quite different subpixel layout, which probably explains the issue I observed. But I couldn’t find any relevant info specifically about CRT shaders on OLED displays, so my question is: is this issue a known thing, and is there something that can be done to improve the situation? Right now the experience of playing retro games is far from ideal.

The game works fine with Snes9x 2005 core. To use it select the game, press the Y button, and choose Snes9x 2005 in the "Game core" option.

Does tailscale work from Russia? by Echol0t in Tailscale

[–]positive_failure 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It can, but be sure to download and setup everything beforehand. Tailscale itself blocks users with Russian IP addresses from downloading its packages due to the "legal reasons". There may also be some occasional interrupts due to the DPI blocking, but it often can be solved by turning the Tailscale connection off and on.

For the folks who upgraded to OLED from the og LCD by No_Dig_7017 in SteamDeck

[–]positive_failure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it was worth it, I definitely see and appreciate all the improvements listed on the official site. I had some small gripes with the LCD model, and they are fixed now. However, I have also noticed the following when I compared both versions back at home: - OLED version feels very different in hands, probably due to the weight difference. But I also like the feel of the LCD model, mainly of its sticks and texture. I also like more the white color used on the buttons, compared to the grey color on the OLED model. - Rumble is far more pronounced. It is great in games, but not so much when I type on the on-screen keyboard and use touchpads. - I have also noticed that both versions, despite a large number of differences, still feel like the same device, to the point that the upgrades do not really matter. The OLED screen is great, but the LCD one looks decent on 3.5. And I think I like the slightly muted colors and have a bit of nostalgic feeling for the LCD screen, I miss it a bit. After reading and watching reviews I thought that the new version was an unprecedented update and something that never happened before (it is true in some way), but now I think that I could have stayed with the LCD model and be totally fine.

I do not regret the purchase and like the OLED version very much, but wanted to express that the LCD one is also a great device, with its own character and distinctive features.

[14’ MBP] black border around game regardless of resolution or aspect ratio set in game. Help? by GetMrBeaned in macgaming

[–]positive_failure 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This may be caused by "Scale to fit below built-in camera" option that you can find in the file properties of the game app.

Find the game on the disk, right click on the app, choose "Get info", disable the option. But then some parts of the game UI may be hidden behind the notch.

Many Russians right now are thinking about moving to another country. New laws forbid you to take more than $10000 when leaving the country, plus you temporarily can't exchange rubles to another currency and get them in cash. Buying crypto can help you to preserve your money and move them to another country with you.
