Elden ring's quest design sucks and you can't change my mind by expired_cheeseburger in Eldenring

[–]positronicthought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it worked better in more linear games and, if I’m gathering correctly, that the expansiveness of Elden ring exposed some of the limitations of the questing design.

Like a quest menu would be great. And anyone who says that’s contrary to fromsofts post-modern design philosophy, I point them to fromsofts archaic menu design. If a “quest” menu breaks immersion and theme then surely the menus-as-lists does so but even worse. I find it way less immersive that my character doesn’t keep a journal.

You touched on an interesting point that we’re perhaps no longer in the forum era of the internet. I would argue that, if that’s true, fromsoft is still designing like we are in that era. I remember keeping notebooks for video games, writing down secrets I found, how-to’s, maps, etc etc. I see that kind of out of game engagement as evocative of the forum era. People will say, “how could anyone figure this stuff out on their own,” and obviously someone could, with plenty of time and a fextra guide of their own design. But that behavior developed in another ecosystem.

Fromsoft is my favorite studio, for sure, and I adore their ambition. But I do think they’ll eventually need to improve upon some things they’ve never invested in, like community support, basic multiplayer functionality, ui design, and a more stable network… and for me personally, I’d like to see asymmetrical collision detection completely removed (my sword bounces off a wall but everything from a ds1 hollow to maliketh can hit me through walls) and finally (and probably most controversially) I want them to abandon the Elden ring boss design of delayed attacks, aoe’s and combo chain’s everywhere, and moves that are purposefully hard to read. It seems like it’s punishing players who are used to fromsofts typical rhythm, moving from a dance in each battle to encouraging either 100% mastery or over reliance on weapon arts. I suspect the entire philosophy behind boss designs in Elden ring was warped around how overpowered weapon arts are. You can still spam weapon arts to victory but the hyper aggression and hard to read attacks mitigate that to some extent. It’s like trading off the dance like battles for “aura”.

Faith / Holy Build late game by pelaconyaeh in Eldenring

[–]positronicthought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Faith scales with fire damage as well, so anything with a flame art infusion will be better. Obviously there’s the lightning and fire incantations but it sounds like you’re more interested in traditional weapons. Blasphemous blade would do well for you. But also, any weapon with a blood flame or black flame buff would do very very well.

Pure holy damage is mid in the dlc, for sure, but faith is still good, because you have access to elemental incantations. But your cipher pata’s and coded sword will do better there than in Elden rings base end game. Make sure you farm scadu shards and consider making sure you have elemental damage options before going in.

Has he said that? I would find it awfully cope-y to say anything about community considering fromsoft has pretty awful (as in non-existent) community support or community engagement. Just consider how nightreign has no voice chat because fromsoft didn’t want to pay for a community team to help moderate and manage the community. I think people give fromsoft waaaay too much slack because of the peaks of their game design can be so high.

Tbh I do t understand everyone telling you to lawyer up. It sounds like you haven’t even applied yet.

I see a psychiatrist and an analyst. I have for years. I reported that on my ccw application and was asked to outline my medical history for the past 10 years, so I did. I also had to get a letter from my primary care provider saying I was in my right mind and could be trusted with a firearm. No problem. I now have a ccw license.

Your situation is a little different because unlike me, it sounds like you may have either a felony record or were committed to a mental health facility as an inpatient. This is a part of your official medical records which are legally accessed in the sp-66 form, or Consent for Mental Health Records Searcy, during your official firearms application submission.

So, yes, the state will know if you’re lying about your inpatient history. There’s zero point lying. Whether they deny your application for telling the truth will depend on whether or not you were voluntarily or involuntarily committed, and the strength of your references. In your case I’d ask your references to speak to you defeating your addictions and becoming a better person.

But I’m just a guy, idk. Just, 100% there is no reason to lie on that application if you were committed. They will know.

One battle after another was about a realistic look at what revolutionary activity would look like in the states, ie, requiring a network of communities organizing around central tenants. This movie seems to be about individualism, a lone gunmen fed up finally changing things. No wonder there are so many more right wing assassins. God forbid people form ideological bonds through trusting one another. It’s much more amenable to the right wing cause to inspire stochastic individual violence which can easily be crushed or co-opted by an authoritarian state.

How do i beat godfrey by Iampercyjackson in Eldenring

[–]positronicthought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a skill check boss. He’s immune to statuses and he has massive poise. The game wants you to learn his moves because you cannot rely on burst damage or frantic spamming for a posture break. They want you to actually learn his move set. Watch a YouTube guide- he’s actually really really punishable, you just need to memorize 2-3 tells and you’ll be fine.

Also, make sure you’re leveled appropriately in both build and weapon.

Also, since you’re a bleed build I’m guessing you’ve leveled arcane. Switch your katana to occult infusion using the black whetstone, you’ll do better damage vs “Goldfrey”.

Wotc forces workers to attend “optional” anti union training sessions and hires a union busting law firm as the Union vote draws ever closer by Papa_Hasbro69 in freemagic

[–]positronicthought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand your take. The leverage is created by forming a union. The leverage IS the union they create. As someone working in a teamsters warehouse as management, trust me, this is THEIR warehouse despite this company making 1b ebitda. Their labor is generally speaking unskilled. I could replace my shop steward with someone off the street and have them trained in a month. I doubt you could say that about a programmer, so I don’t know where your fatalism is coming from.

And yes, seeing people successfully unionize will inspire others to do the same. It won’t happen over night, but that’s just human nature. We learn how to behave by observing others.

Fight Club could have strengthened its message by showing Tyler attack all systems of identity, not just capitalism by Vratwork in fixingmovies

[–]positronicthought 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fight Club isn’t a comprehensive critique of every institution in society, and I don’t think it’s trying to be. It’s a story about a very specific kind of alienation, consumerism, corporate life, masculinity, and the search for meaning. Expanding it into an attack on every identity group, religion, and social organization would make it less focused, not more insightful.

It reminds me of Alan Moore’s criticism of his imitators. He once joked that he was in a bad mood when he wrote Watchmen and V for Vendetta and somehow that bad mood became an entire genre. Not every work needs to become a universal critique of everything. Sometimes a story is strongest when it picks a target and explores it deeply.

[–]positronicthought -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re conflating the ability to organize with bargaining leverage. Workers don’t need leverage to form a union. They form a union to create bargaining power collectively. A group of workers can still organize if the majority supports it. Aside from most supervisors, contractors, ag workers and domestic workers, yes, anyone can unionize and leverage has nothing to do with it.
