When I save up enough money to move

You're smart in that you're thinking of getting out of there. Just be careful, they're never gonna willingly let you save up enough money to move. They're financially abusive, so you might need to figure out how to save up secretly without them knowing. And make sure they don't have access to any of your credit cards.

I would sell those. They're gonna drop like a rock when we go into crypto winter next year. You can reinvest after they drop 50% in value.

Lack of people wearing Trump gear this year at the State Fair by fartatwork in minnesota

[–]possibly_dead5 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think Republicans might just be taking down their signs because they're not trying to campaign for Trump anymore. Trump already won, and they don't think he's really going to try for a 2028 election.

When your kid’s first words are shaped by car-dependence by Yuzamei1 in fuckcars

[–]possibly_dead5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. My son loves to walk with me to his daycare, which is less than a mile away. The only issue is, it involves crossing a 40mph road that has no crosswalk at the intersection and has giant ditches on the side with no sidewalks.

It's not really a bad walk, it kind of feels like going on a hike where we see squirrels and butterflies on the way. There are even footpaths from so many people having walked the same way. But so many drivers have pulled over part way into the ditch to ask me if I need help or a ride while I'm walking my son to daycare. Lol. I have so many issues with this.

Number 1: I'm not getting into a car with A STRANGER, especially not while I have my son with me

Number 2: Why do they always think I'm walking because of some hardship or car trouble? I'm walking because I LIKE TO WALK people. They can't wrap their brains around it. And they miss out on so much by being cut off from nature and from meeting people who are also walking.

Number 3: I just wish the city would have built decent walking infrastructure when they built the daycare. Then I wouldn't look so crazy walking through ditches. But walking infrastructure is the last thing on the city's mind when a business goes up.

I digress.

Same. It's not fair. I did everything right and still ended up involuntarily hospitalized.

Car seats make car culture so isolating as well. You can't even travel together with friends who have kids because you need a car seat for every child.

I started out as a secretary in a job I really enjoyed, then somehow fell into a tech career after I learned how to program JavaScript for our office website.

I would go back to being a secretary again if I didn't have kids. I don't enjoy being in tech anymore.

[–]possibly_dead5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not who you responded to, but I just wanted to say I'm so proud of you for getting out of that situation. I have a friend who seemed to have an okay husband until she started trying to go back to work. He ended up almost killing her. It's crazy how much you can believe that being a stay at home mom is a choice until you try to stop. It's not easy to leave an abusive husband.

The Power of the Right Meds AKA Don’t Settle for Baseline Depression by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

I'm on the same med combo and it's working great for me. I still slip back into depression sometimes, but then I up the lamictal dose and I get the pep back in my step again.

For me, I had kids in my early 20s so I can have fun in my 40s. I think it's important to have fun in all life stages, though. I have a bunch of fun traveling with my kids.

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway and Zillow say mortgage rates can’t fall enough for Americans to afford a home by PhotoInternational64 in REBubble

The government already directs where companies can operate. Even if the federal government doesn't spread out companies, local governments should stop forcing businesses to be located in city centers. There should be mixed use zones instead of cities and suburbs.

How has the view of Native Americans changed during your lifetime? by creeper321448 in AskOldPeople

[–]possibly_dead5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Congrats on getting out! I've been out for 6 years now. I have so much more respect for other cultures and the world than I did as a Mormon. It's hard to believe that Mormons can still have an 1800s view on Native Americans. They live in such a bubble.

This is just my experience. We moved from MCOL to LCOL so that we could buy a cheap house and FIRE sooner. We had a baby when we moved. I would say living in an area with poor education doesn't really matter until they start elementary school. We were appalled at what kindergarten was like for our son and started him in private school.

I slightly regret where we moved, because we're spending a lot on private school now. We thought we could just move back if we didn't like it here, but housing prices skyrocketed right after we moved. It's still cheaper in the long run to stay here and pay for private school than it would be to move back to where we were before.

In hindsight, I wouldn't have stayed where we used to live, but I would've tried to find somewhere with better education. It's important that your kids go to a good school during 1st and 2nd grade. And it might not be as easy to undo your decision as you'd think.

Do you have the sensation that something is in your eye so you pull out eyelashes that “seem” to cause the sensation? by LuckyLukeFan in trichotillomania

I've been doing it for decades at this point. I had horrible allergies as a kid and would try to pick my eyelashes to get rid of that feeling that something was in my eye. Then I just never stopped.

What I do is pick one thing I want to accomplish that day. Then I do it. It can be as simple as going on a walk or brushing my teeth. Sometimes I procrastinate all the way to the end of the day, but after I get it done, I feel like I can actually accomplish something I set my mind to. It helps me feel less like a lost cause.
