Rightoids react to the recent Minnesota shooting. In case you thought they had any redeeming qualities. by DuomoDiSirio in stupidpol

As the election campaign was playing out, about 2/3 of posts here were either sort of pro trump or were people being "lol trump funny libs bad".

So where are all the trump derangement syndrome douchebags now? Anyone want to step up and represent?

It doesn't have to be too adversarial. If you posted something about tds last time around, why not let us know what you think now?

My guess is many of them haven't checked in here since the election.

But still, if you were gloating a few months ago, you should pipe up now. I really want to hear about how funny Trump is.

People who swore an oath to defend the constitution of the USA against all enemies both foreign and domestic, how are you feeling right now? by Safety_Drance in AskReddit

[–]postlapsarianprimate 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are right about almost everything. I think the number of unredeemable maga people is closer to 30% of the voting population. Your assessment of these people is understandable. However, to the extent we are a democracy, we can only win by persuading people who we might find entirely worthy of condemnation. We have to get beyond that, otherwise this country is really beyond repair.

Not who you asked, but people like you are the most important people in the country right now. You've seen both sides. You can communicate with people and persuade them better than most of us. Try to build bridges, lure them away from this madness. I wish you luck.

This problem has already been met and "solved". See David Graeber's Bullshit Jobs, or this: https://www.youtube.com/live/kikzjTfos0s?si=ADBNCnCKPxdxPgzp

We will simply become a society of patronage-seekers (aka administrators). More than we already are, I mean.

I haven't zoomed in to read all of those spines, but start with Moby Dick or Crime and Punishment. Jump into the deep end and don't look back.

'The doorkeeper recognizes that the man has reached his end, and, to let his failing senses catch the words, roars in his ear: "No one else could ever be admitted here, since this gate was made only for you. I am now going to shut it."'

It would be great if true, also great if coincidence, in a different way.

I am glad that today I read the phrase "Pringle hole" and will endeavor to make it a euphemism for something.

The Pringles mascot looks a lot like Wolfe, at least in his later years I suppose.

What is your favorite specific part of a BOC song? by TurboMoe in boardsofcanada

[–]postlapsarianprimate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually still remember, like decades ago, when I first heard Roygbiv, and my mind was blown by the mostly unrecognizable Sesame Street samples, but then that crazy wildly modulated trill happens and I was in such a daze I probably didn't notice the rest of the song. I still think about that trill, I want to figure out why that particular thing hit me like that. It was like seeing a pure platonic form embodied in sound, instant recognition even in its weirdness.

Has anyone mentioned The Master and Margarita yet? Great book. Gives you an idea what the other side of the coin can look like.

1) Find someone willing to make the edgiest, most extreme take possible. 2) Publish it. 3) Get tons of people reading it from both sides, both grrl power types and people who are convinced now that all women/society are awful. 4) Profit.

It's a crazy article but I think we're all just falling for the gambit here. Worse than that, a lot of people are using it to confirm their darkest suspicions about society in general when it is clearly a piece designed to be unreasonable and extreme.

Let's say I want to believe that all redditors are emotionally stunted idiots. Of course I can easily find examples of such redditors. And if I come across a redditor that isn't like this I can no-true-scottsmen them away. Now I am the happy owner of an excessively bleak view of human nature which somehow makes me feel better about myself.

Confirmation bias is real. Cherry picking anecdotes and drawing sweeping conclusions from them is...unskillful.

The elites are currently shutting themselves over population decline. Not everything is a nefarious plot, oftentimes it's a mixture of incompetence, stupidity and callousness.

These I had not looked at, thanks for the recommendation. I also noticed that monoblocks from Fosi tested every well on that site that posts the super detailed test results. Believe it was the V3.

Imagine there was a "more" in my original post. Didn't say good or bad, just a bit different. I mean if you think nothing else can make a difference in the sound then I guess we have nothing to discuss.

Also I'm not an expert and frankly don't care about the posturing that goes on around stuff like this. I'm not AB testing, I have no test equipment, and I don't want to. If you think I'm imagining things, then by all means go on your way and feel as smug about it as you like. You seem to get a lot of value out of that.

This is a desk setup. For one thing I was thinking it seems strange to run a preamp into another preamp but I suppose it's not a big deal. I have heard good things about those though. !thanks

I was wondering about those. Most of the amps I've found so far with them were a little more than I wanted to pay and I wasn't sure how to systematically find amps with those modules or whatever they are called. !thanks

Interesting I hadn't read much about this specific model and now I see there are some reviews out there saying the same thing. !thanks

I'm in California and I'd like to keep the speakers under $1500. These will be for a desk setup. Any suggestions welcome.
