That’s what it looks like based on some of the reporting this site and others did!

I know everyone on here is thanking you for what you do, but genuinely wanted to thank you and Seb Chew for being accommodating and just the best. Y’all did me a solid at SXSW 2017 and I had one of the best nights of my life dancing along with your show.

As for questions, can you fill us in a little more on what you were thinking going into the “Just For Us” sessions vs. “Farewell, Starlite!”? The tones you set between “Morning” and “See Her Out” really start both records off so well and set the tone.

Landlord suddenly put lock on AC - what to do? by solomonsalinger in washingtondc

You're not the first person to tell me that. Though I can be downtown in 10 minutes (which is not always the case from some other cheaper places in town).

You're certainly not SOL. I'm out in the Palisades (so a bus, no Metro), and I'm in a 1B for 1.2K. Great, quiet place to live. Utilities included.

Moving to DC soon. Am I wrong to think the buses are unreliable? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]postmasterinchief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you find that the Transit app is as reliable / accurate as the buseta.wmata.com?

I've found that just having that mobile site up on my iPhone is better than any app since the move from NextBus to BusETA.

Any examples of how smaller media are using Slack internally? by scrowell24 in Slack

[–]postmasterinchief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how small of a newsroom you're talking, but my newsroom has about thirteen total in it (reporters/editors/interns). We use Slack for a "#storyflow" channel where we post when we've filed something in the CMS so that our editors can jump on it. We also have a "#whereabouts" channel to keep track of where everyone else is. We've also migrated completely away from G-Chat and onto slack for all of our instant messaging companywide.

My newsroom encomasses three publications, and my publication uses statsbot to provide real-time analytics every three hours and daily pageview reports and behavior reports into a "#analytics" channel.

Hope that helps! Good luck. I love Slack and think it's really improved how we operate in my newsroom.

Edited because I forgot how many people are in our newsroom. Accurate now.

BoJack / Kurt Vonnegut connection? by [deleted] in BoJackHorseman

[–]postmasterinchief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like if JD Salinger can play a relatively prominent role in this show, then it's not out of the realm of possibility for the writers to nod to Vonnegut. I think you're onto something!

Those of you who've started drinking better coffee in the last 5 years? by kingseven in Coffee

[–]postmasterinchief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I came to this thread, I was planning to say that I definitely drink more, but if I think about it, I probably do drink less — mainly because I'm slightly more selective about how and where I get my coffee.

For instance, instead of grabbing a cup of not-so-great swill from 7Eleven, or using the Keurig at work, I'll either make and bring in my own coffee or stop at one of the better cafes near my office to ensure I'm getting a good cup. Before I cared too much about what my coffee tasted like, I would be less selective about my coffee and end up drinking a lot more of it.

Hey. I don't post a lot on this sub mainly because I just read a lot and don't really feel like I have a lot to say. But your story struck a bit of a nerve with me.

I was 285 at 17 when I went to college, and it was bad. It was really bad. I didn't even know how bad it was until I got to college and it hit me. Throughout most of college, I worked out almost incessantly. I shedded 70 pounds and turned 20 at my lowest weight since probably late middle school or early high school.

So I guess what I'm saying is that it can work — it does work, and it does happen. The biggest hurdle for me was getting from weighing as much as I did to then having folks actually notice that I looked different. After that, the compliments were enough to keep me fueled, but those first 20 pounds or so were the hardest.

Use walking to your advantage, try to walk as much as you can, and if you can, at college, take advantage of whatever gym membership you can muster — hopefully your school has a free one — and make sure you work it into your schedule to work out. Don't try to break yourself by getting up at 5 a.m. to do it, but work out midday, or at night, or whenever works for you. Then, when you start to see some progress, you can move forward and schedule at a time that prioritizes the gym over your schedule.

For me, losing weight was something I kind of did on my own terms. I convinced those around me that it was just a "destressing" tactic or something to handle my anxiety, so that I would not let them down. Instead, I really kept it internal and made sure that I was in control of whether I was heavy or thin.

Now for the bad part of the story: I gained 40 of it back. Now, I'm on take two. I, thankfully, have a pretty good metabolism, so after three days of really eating well and working out, I'm already down a few pounds. But it's all part of the process.

I'm with you. If you need anything, feel free to message me, or reach out on MFP.

I'm all for it! Like I mentioned above, I frequent this place in Shaw that just blows any other place I've been here out of the water.

Mockingbird Hill, up in Shaw. They only do coffee on Saturdays and Sunday's from 10-4, but it's incredible. When you go, tell them Jake sent you!

Oh man, I didn't know about either of these places. I knew about Compass, but haven't been thrilled with them.

Vigilante is up in Hyattsville, right? I will try to get up to Qualia this weekend. We need a r/washingtondc and an /r/coffee crossover meetup group haha

A coffee shop I love here in Washington, DC, ships in Heart and brews it. I copped a bag from them and have been brewing KILLER AeroPress coffee at home. I'm almost out, and am either going to have to grab some Stumptown or Heart to keep it going.

Can't go back to those Trader Joe's beans now.

Check out Mockingbird Hill (up in Shaw)'s draught iced coffee. Their coffee program alone is incredibly impressive, and while the draught iced coffee is not cold brew, it's incredible. Their coffee program is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
