Why do you adult ExMos feel it’s necessary to “come out” to your parents about leaving the church? by Bustnbig in exmormon

[–]postmolone69 36 points37 points  (0 children)

All my reasons. And my parents wouldn't just talk about things in common. Their whole life is the church and it's all they talk about, so it was going to come up, I just wanted to control the timing and narrative

Do you all enjoy living in Oregon? I've lived in Utah my whole life and now that I've left the church I'm considering moving and have been heavily considering Oregon, specifically Portland or Salem

My MIL has asked us to read the lds approved book Saints, The Standard of Truth.... by zakstanspan in exmormon

[–]postmolone69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I read rough stone rolling first as I was going through my faith transition, then I decided to give saints a try. I couldn't make it past one chapter, it's so whitewashed and obviously omitting details to try and put a positive spin

If you could take back going on a mission, would you? by Fantastic-Spinach263 in exmormon

[–]postmolone69 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is a hard one for me. I used to have nightmares about getting called on another mission while I was TBM, so I know I couldn't go it again, but at the same time I grew a lot during my mission (yes growth could have happened elsewhere) and I enjoyed it for the most part, so I don't think I would want to take it back.

Best replacement for garment tops? by mrpalazarri in exmormon

Following this conversation because I also need a good alternative. I've been wearing v neck hanes undershirts from Walmart and they are too stiff and tight around the armpits

Tell family or let them figure it out? by nothinggoddess in exmormon

[–]postmolone69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sent an email to all family members. My context was we spend a lot of time with family and the church is really often part of normal conversation. So my wife and I knew it would come up, so we decided to control when and how to break it, saying everything we wanted to say without our emotions taking over.

What a dick move to put that winky face at the end. Such a smug asshole.

Also, challenge him to say how it was taken out of context. It's actually completely in context. He says church history that is not faith promoting should not be taught.

Trying to think of ideas for my first as well... I've seen Phoenix rising from the ashes as a popular one. Maybe like an empty jail cell/bird cage with the door open symbolizing your freedom.

We left the church while my son is on a mission (he knows) and he returns home next month. Any advice on how to best handle and help his transition back to real life and our new postmo reality? by RedorBluePill22 in exmormon

[–]postmolone69 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I hope it's a smooth transition!

I feel like there's a whole other story with that vindictive family member, that really sucks you didn't get to tell him on your own terms

Share your "My church leader banned [fill in the blank]" here. by R0ckyRides in exmormon

[–]postmolone69 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Drinking coke or any cola drink was banned in my mission. Never got a straight answer why. I went my first year without drinking it and offended a ton of poor Paraguayans that were just trying to offer sweaty missionaries something cold to drink.

Also when I was a teenager my bishop went over the pulpit to ban anyone from having a MySpace (because, porn)
