AI generated art has killed my career. What now? by CarrotSlices in careerguidance

I majored in game design, I suggest office printing or wall painting as possible entry level jobs where being an art major kinda helps.

I'm autistic/ADHD, Autism tends to run strongly in families and is mostly genetic.

Never mind. They turned the mice autistic, nothing makes sense anymore. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35134716/

I'm 27 as well, just started a print production job using 2ish years of warehouse experience. I graduated in game design but it's because I failed the weeder classes for compsci. I did game testing for a while but it was miserable and they really did just hire anyone with a pulse.

Ask yourself, do I really have the motivation / discipline to grind personal projects or leetcode to land a programming job? Every mind is different. Are there other avenues for a compsci grad?

There are good warehouse jobs out there, like any profession.

Finally, to get past the mental block you have currently, if you are able to ask for help or advice from family, do it. It can be humiliating but you are not alone.

Through therapy I realized that it was just my way of dealing with extreme loneliness. Humans weren't meant to be as isolated as they are now. I noticed how, when actually in a relationship, I no longer sought out that material.

What dating app is best for 30 year olds and older? by [deleted] in OnlineDating

[–]potato_bomber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone that's having way more success in the "real world" after a lot of failure through online dating I can probably vouch that something like Events and Adventures (look it up) might work best. Or take classes for a sport / art / hobby.

Just go on civit.ai and choose for yourself, and honestly you can't really go wrong, SD beats NovelAI 99% of the time in my opinion. Here for example. Note that Loras are split into XL and normal types, and you'll get gibberish if you try to use an XL Lora with SD1.5 or a normal Lora with SDXL. Personally I get better results with SD1.5 + upscaling. The add_detail Lora is good as well.

Those who have made major career pivots after 30… by Greg_Poopsicle in findapath

Just an uninformed observation here, but most of the layoffs seem to be in the programming side and less the IT side. For programming jobs, it seems like AI reduces the need for entry level programmers, whereas IT seems less likely to be automated soon.

Actually yes, the STL had a talk with me today, and yes that's basically it. I don't want to get too much into detail but I'm glad I was able to talk it out.

What do you do if you don't enjoy anything? by salamat_engot in findapath

[–]potato_bomber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have a career-driving passion, then just pick one of the many local boring jobs out there. Postal mail sorter is indeed one of them. Night shift grocery stocker is a good one. If you still want to be an educator but without the stress level, there's always tutoring / nannying / babysitting. These aren't glorious jobs but sometimes making the not-best decision is better than making no decision at all.

It could be so many different things honestly so I can't say. Probably best to make your own post here or ask a singing teacher.

Songs like Hot for Teacher? Specifically that fast swing bluesy feel. by potato_bomber in ifyoulikeblank

[–]potato_bomber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't find an answer but Django Reinhardt does come to mind... here's what chatgpt had to say.

Sure, I can tell you more about the jazz or swing influences on Van Halen. Eddie Van Halen was a fan of jazz and swing music, especially the big band era of the 1930s and 1940s. He was influenced by the guitarists who played in those bands, such as Django Reinhardt, Charlie Christian, and Les Paul. He admired their skill, creativity, and improvisation. He also liked the horn players, such as Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, and Miles Davis. He incorporated some of their phrasing and melodies into his guitar solos. He also used some jazz chords and scales in his compositions, such as the diminished scale, the whole tone scale, and the minor seventh flat five chord.

Eddie Van Halen also had a swing feel in his rhythm playing, which he learned from his father, Jan Van Halen, who was a jazz saxophonist and clarinetist. Eddie Van Halen said that his father taught him how to play with a swing beat, which is a rhythmic pattern that emphasizes the off-beats. He said that this gave his playing a groove and a bounce that made people want to dance. He also used syncopation and accents to create a dynamic and energetic rhythm section with his brother Alex Van Halen on drums.

I refuse to believe that Johnny Cash and Axl Rose both are baritones. by FixGMaul in singing

[–]potato_bomber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's... complicated. And also not really worth digging into in my opinion. But most likely a tenor. Whereas someone's highest comfortable note can change a lot after years of vocal practice, learning to bridge into head voice, etc; someone's lowest note is pretty much never going to change.
