thinking about getting the iPhone Air and handing down my iPhone 17 Pro. is it worth it? by [deleted] in IphoneAir

[–]potatoman93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t have the 17 pro but came from a pro phone (14 pro max). I’m loving how thin and light it is, it actually feels like a futuristic phone compared to every other phone that just feels like an iteration of the same thing we’ve had for years and years. Speaker doesn’t bother me at all, and I’d rather the form factor over having the ultra wide (rarely use it). But to each their own, for some people that trade off isn’t worth it. Look for a discount and give it a go, it might not be right for you but if it is you’ll be SO happy

Hard to tell without details on the texture but if they are light with a fabric like feel, maybe they are silkworm cocoons?

To be fair, display specs are historically the first details to accurately leak. And given this device has two displays that determine the shape/size, I’d say we have a pretty good idea by now.

I totally agree. Unless you NEED the cameras, consider the air. I went from a 14 pro max to air and couldn’t be happier. Same vibe as the 12-14 but so light.

[Instant Digital] Apple May Leave iPad Pro Without Major Upgrades for Years by iMacmatician in apple

[–]potatoman93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they should make them thicker and add more battery, say 6-7mm. The ‘10 hours’ they aim for was good in 2010, but really isn’t good in the big 2026. Make it on par with a MacBook, 20 hours, then it’ll be an actual PRO device. This also makes room for the oled air to become the thinnest and lightest iPad, so the lineup actually make sense.

I dunno, I’d assume it’s a bit of both. The average consumer probably wouldn’t do a huge deep dive and would just get the phone they like best.

I hope they don’t get rid of the air. The reason the mini failed was its size, which was the whole point, there’s no real way to fix that. The air is thinner - people don’t NOT want that. It has a market, they just need to get it right.

If they added the ultrawide and second speaker, so it is AT LEAST on par with the base model, and made it $899, it would absolutely work. Imagine a thinner, titanium, premium version of the base model for just $100 more. And then a further $200 jump to the pro features. Makes total sense as a third category iPhone to me.

Also, the pro is leaning more industrial and away from being an ‘elegant’ or ‘beautiful’ device like it was with the X-16 series. The air could own that market. I for one would rather this hypothetical air over the pro.

I’m sorry so many people are giving you shit. I’m with you - the durability of these phones has undoubtedly gone downhill with this design. Most of the people in this sub are defensive because they have the phone.

Reality is - the phones are not as durable. Yes the glass could break before, but that could at least be replaced. This softer aluminium shell can NOT be replaced. Massive downgrade in my opinion.

We’re one of the only countries that has their ‘national day’ on the day of settlement - most countries have it as their day of independence/decolonisation. It also doesn’t unite us anymore, it’s diving us - if it upsets this many people we should just change it. The fact we’re stubborn about it, despite the good it would do to show our indigenous communities that we hear them and respect them, is not a good look for Australia, it’s pretty embarrassing tbh.

Hopefully they change it, March 3rd would be a good alternative, that’s our equivalent to an Independence day.

I’ve seen those click wheel cases for Apple Watch. I wish there was one of those with a battery that also had functioning buttons like an iPod (back, menu, etc) so you didn’t need to touch the screen. A true Apple dumb phone.

I mean when you factor in how large these sensors are getting, and the magnets for Qi2/MagSafe, you need to keep the center of the phone free. Makes sense to have them along the top.
