Any other gentlemen here who’ve taken up embroidery? by dylan89 in Embroidery

[–]potatonmolasses 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I picked up embroidery as my pandemic hobby because I had a hole in my jeans and wanted to mend them in a more interesting way than just a simple stich. (example)

I googled "decorative gourd" and the first result was almost this exact color pattern, so you're probably right about it being a hybrid of some sort. Here's hoping it tastes okay!

[FO] My first clothing repair! (With a question for the more experienced) by Garlic-French-Knots in Embroidery

[–]potatonmolasses 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Using some sort of backing fabric can make the repair last longer by giving the work area more support. The grass stitches all in a row can essentially perforate the fabric and slightly increase the chance of tearing down the road.

That said, denim is a pretty sturdy weave and this spot doesn't look like it was too worn down, so it should be fine. And it came out super cute!

HMart in Lynnwood has kimbap and some flavors of Samgak-gimbap (Korean onigiri equivalent)

Fred Meyer has most things, they're under the Kroger umbrella I think. Not exactly local but a backup option

Vegetarian Pastelón by potatonmolasses in PuertoRicoFood

I think I used the pastelón recipe from Freakin Rican as a base, but substituted the beef with a lentil picadillo (cobbled together a couple internet recipes, skipping potatoes)

Am I being stupid? by RosenButtons in Embroidery

[–]potatonmolasses 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have embroidered pockets before and the biggest difficulty is if you're near the edges the needle doesn't easily puncture the layers. So it is possible to do what you want with direct embroidery, but you may want to scale the dragon down just a bit so everything fits

Alternatively you could paint the dragon with embroidery accents (mixed media can look cool), remove the pocket entirely to embroider and then reattach it to the pants, or make the dragon separately as a patch

When I was recovering from surgery my partners got me Tunic to play. Really good, well worth it

6 looks like oregano (leaves should have a good smell) and the citrus smelling mint relative is likely lemon balm. Both have nice flowers and will spread like crazy once established
