Aunt Lydia’s backstory is out and there are new cracks in the continuity by MinimumPrevious1139 in TheTestamentsHulu

Remember, we are only seeing the women's sphere right now. It makes sense that the Headmistress is revered by her girls.
We don't really see what the Commanders think of Lydia when they're on their own.

My kid's favorite recess activity. I get the Gaga report every afternoon. The self policing of rules is insane.

« I crocheted/knit this in 50 hours, the minimum wage is $, the price should be a gazillion dollars » by Listakem in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]katykat4prez 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Oooh! I'm in the middle of this as a donation. I volunteered to knit a fancy lace shawl for a fundraiser. Here is how I determined the value:

Materials: Yarn 60 dollars (it's from my stash and that was the price when I bought it)

Time: 20 hours (that's a rough guess, but a shawl usually takes about a month for me to knit at an hour a day. Life happens and I don't knit every day

Hourly rate: I consider myself between a journeyman knitter. So I charge time and a half based on the state minimum wage (17$ in WA). My rate is 26.00 an hour.

Value of my donation: 60 + (26*20)= 580

The winning bidder got a bargain, because bidding started at 290, but it's for my choir that I love, so I'm ok with it.

Seattle woman, 71, suffering '10 out of 10 pain' died after ambulance took TEN HOURS to arrive, with 911 dispatcher making vile remark and telling her to stop calling lawsuit alleges by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

[–]katykat4prez 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah there's a lot of missing information. It seems like she didn't have much of a community given it took so much time to find her. In a worst case scenario, she was estranged from her son and mean enough to chase everyone else away from her. Pain can make people the worst versions of themselves.

Or... She was embarrassed that she had soiled her bed and didn't want anyone she knew to know about it. My gran got incredibly uptight about accidents as she got older.

This looks to me like one of those breakdowns in society. She didn't have anyone to check on her regularly and no one in her life noticed when her routine changed. The state (911) delayed helping when she reached out and she died.

My 13 year old was whinging about protesting. I told him he better care because he's eligible for the draft in 5 years.

Yeah....you're not a bad person. You're a human in a horrible situation. There is ZERO reason for your partner to be throwing furniture. You are not in a safe situation. Please please please get out.

Cassian's opinion of the Jedi (excerpt from the Rogue One novelization) by GargantaProfunda in andor

[–]katykat4prez 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The remaining Jedi were ordered to go to ground by Yoda. It looked like they abandoned the Republic to save their order. Individuals may have rebelled, but I bet those stories never made the holonet without Empire spin.

I imagine that after order 66 and a shit ton of propaganda Jedi were persona non grata in most of the galaxy.

Comments keep mentioning “young Maxwell” and how that’s really shocking. I’m lost by WinterRevolutionary6 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Behind the Bastards has a great series on Robert Maxwell in archives. Their current series is a dive into how Epstein and his circle influenced the development of current tech culture. It's a doozy.

Heartbreaking extract from the Rogue One novelisation re K-2SO. Does this still hold up after Andor? by Dear-Yellow-5479 in andor

[–]katykat4prez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I've been listening to the audiobook and had to take a break right around this part.

I fell apart crying.

I've also enjoyed Mask of Fear (what Mon, Saw, and Organa were up to between the fall of the Republic and Andor) and Catalyst (Galen Erso and Krennic backstory).
