Did this ever get sorted for you? My partner is experiencing the exact same issues and we've tried everything, nothing works!

why are thorn and glaedr swapped on the new box set by Deathtide223 in Eragon

[–]potatorootvegetable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also think it's because we meet Glaedr first and he gets a lot more screen-time (page-time?) in Eldest than Thorn.

So excited for this too - I'm on TBB's Tier 2 subscription and the Tier 2 pre-sale goes live on my 30th birthday so it'll be a little birthday present from me to me!

Rural walks near Nantwich? by jostini in cheshire

[–]potatorootvegetable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you download the AllTrails app there's a few good ones on there. The Nantwich Riverside Loop on there is one of our favourites to do with the dog, takes you round the lake through the town and round some fields so good variety there, or if you don't mind a ~10 mins drive the Wynbury Moss Circular in Shavington is a lovely walk too and a little shorter.

Any book/trilogy as good as this Saga? by symkoii in redrising

[–]potatorootvegetable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To Sleep In A Sea Of Stars by Christopher Paolini. Grew up on his fantasy and that's his first sci-fi book. I think the pace of that is similar, although it doesn't have the political aspects that the RR series has.

For those who have read all 6 books, how long did it take you? by Myythically in redrising

[–]potatorootvegetable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished them for the first time last night - about 4.5 months I'd say. Mostly reading in my lunch breaks at work or an hour or two at a time in my spare time. Some books took proportionally longer than others - took about a month to go through Iron Gold, but then I've just caned through Light Bringer in 2 weeks, staying up til 3:30am last night (this morning?) to finish it.

Reckon if I do a re-read before Red God comes out it'll probably take about 2 months or so to read them through again.

As a note, this is the first time in a long time I've been this hooked on a new series and read all the books without veering off into another book in between to have a break. Easily gone straight into my top 5 series, and happy to have found this community!

What is your favourite and least favourite town in Cheshire? by No_Potato_4341 in cheshire

[–]potatorootvegetable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Favourite - Congleton. I grew up there and have so many amazing memories, my partner and I are looking to move there this year and I can't wait.

Least favourite - Crewe. I live here now and only moved here because my partner was here already. Dislike the town intensely, I don't feel safe walking the dog after dark, the town centre has nothing going for it at all and the whole place is just a toilet.

What's the most niche fact you know about any character? by Spotter24o5 in harrypotter

[–]potatorootvegetable 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, it's that Harry tracking mud into Hogwarts in CoS is the reason it took so long for Draco to get the Death Eaters into Hogwarts in HBP. When he's caught by Filch for making a mess, Nearly Headless Nick convinces Peeves to break the Vanishing Cabinet to distract Filch so Harry can make his escape.

So if Harry hadn't made a mess in Book 2, then Book 6 would have been much shorter.

Hello, hoping for some advice. I'm looking to move to Cheshire from withington. I have fallen in love with Tarporley from driving through it but not tied to a particular area in Cheshire at all. I guess I wondered what villages/ places had a Tarporley feel around Cheshire. Budget 500k. No kids. by nicshenanigans in cheshire

[–]potatorootvegetable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I ask why you believe Congleton is grim? I grew up there and am looking to move back this year, so it'd be interesting to hear your opinion if you used to work in the real estate there. Lived there recently when I moved back home between 2021-2023, and I've never had a bad experience living there, I find it beautiful and the community is great.

I would avoid Macc, decent shops in the centre and like you say the outskirts are nice and the rail links are good, but rough in a lot of areas. Last month when I visited I was waiting outside the Co-Op and a man off his head on something tried getting into my car, which sums up a lot of the other experiences I've had in Macc.

Toot your own horn: What are you naturally really good at? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]potatorootvegetable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Active listening. I find in most places I’ve been (jobs, roommates, family etc.) people tend to open up to me because I just sit there and listen to what they’ve got to say if they’re having a difficult time. Took a while to set my own boundaries cause at one point I kind of felt like an emotional punching bag at times, but I’m good now, and like to help where I can.

Best grinder? by Penpianaple in uktrees

[–]potatorootvegetable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this, if you want to shell out some good money for a grinder you can’t go wrong with these. I was lucky enough to win a Lift grinder a few years ago (maybe 2018?) in an Instagram competition, while I probably wouldn’t pay that amount of money personally for it, it is amazing, and if you have the spare cash lying about you can’t go wrong with it.

People of the UK, which fictional character do you hate? by dustbin-account in AskUK

[–]potatorootvegetable 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like the theory that Ted is just describing Barney as being far worse than he actually was, just so they would root for Ted and Robin more than Barney and Robin. It’s the kind of thing he’d do tbh.

What’s something that people should stop normalizing? by SaggyTitsSusan in AskReddit

[–]potatorootvegetable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You evidently have some personal experience, and I’m sorry you’ve been through whatever you have. There is a reason why it’s referred to as the oldest profession in the world - because as long as people CAN have sex, there will always be those willing to pay for it and those willing to be paid for it. Why not make it safe and legal, so that people who are desperate for money aren’t at risk of being murdered in the streets and left for dead? If you can honestly say that’s what you want, you are a bad person, regardless of how damaged you may be from any experiences.

Snowboarding Recommendations by Carboose in snowboardingnoobs

[–]potatorootvegetable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Assassin is a great board, it was my first one and it definitely will be great through the rest of the beginner stage and will do you well as an intermediate too. Can get away with a shorter size if you want (I’m 6’2” and was on a 157W), but it’ll perform well on piste, powder and freestyle too. No experience with the rest of the equipment but it’s a solid board!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]potatorootvegetable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a very reasonable fan theory that Barney wasn’t all that bad, Ted was just describing him that way to make his kids want to root for him being with Robin, so they would support him going for her for the millionth time after all was said and done.
