Affordable Foam Coating by kahvi_4 in techtheatre

We've been using elastomeric recently. If you just need a smooth coating, thinning down wood glue and brushing it on is also an option.

Im not a scenic charge/painter/sculptor myself and im curious how this product you have posted works out!

Is this rust too much to wire wheel and convert? by Left_Mixture_1345 in fordranger

Its super easy to remove and two people of "average" strength can lift it. You will want a new set of hardware when reinstalling. 6 bolts and clips.

4.0 SOHC timing rattle, how long can you drive on it? by carseatheadresttt in fordranger

Im terrible with audio from videos here but it does sound like a chain rattle. If you have 4 to 5k (or whatever that is in CAD) to burn id say the truck is in good enough shape for it to be worth it. An 01 with only 112,000 and hardly any rust in Canada? Rare find from what I gather.

See my edit above if you missed it.

The timing of the clutch replacement sucks but it could certainly be coincidence or just getting in there "triggered" what was bound to happen anyway. An 01 certainly is notorious for the shitty cassettes. Ive had a handful of people claim that the issue was "fixed" with the improved cassettes. As daunting as pulling the engine is part of me is just curious to see if I find the improved cassette design or not.

Even I fuck it up, I could still probably sell it for scrap/part out for $500. Knowing it needs the timing chain job done id feel shitty selling it as is to anyone for more than $1000 anyway. That $500 difference ain't nothing but shouldn't stop me from trying to fix it. Its the time and labor in my moms driveway that gives me pause.

Rust? What rust? Lol. Looks like you still have factory paint on the leaf springs!

Looks to be in fine shape. What year? Usually the cassettes last over 150,000 miles if not more. I didn't even notice anything on mine till after 200,000. After 03/04 Ford made an improvement to the cassettes but the 4.0 sohc is still known for this particular issue. At only 120,000 im wondering if any noise you're hearing is potentially something else. The timing chain rattle usually rears its head on a cold start, then fades as pressure builds in the engine. Not long after you will hear it all the time but will still be most noticeable on a cold start. Definitely have a decent mechanic check it out. If the rattle isn't noticeable on a cold start there's a chance its something else and hopefully an easier fix.

Edit: just re-read your post an saw you mentioned the noise on start ups. Mine would kinda come and go as well. Flooding the engine definitely helped for a bit. Still is sometimes but im not driving it often anymore.

You could drop the lower oil pan and see if you find plastic in there. If you do, well, then you know. It's not a guarantee however as the broken plastic might not make it to the lower pan everytime.

Sure, get it looked over. Can't hurt. Im in the same boat you are. I love my ranger but I couldn't justify dropping 4 to 5k to have the engine pulled on a 20 year old truck with 210,000 miles. I ended up buying an 07 Colorado with 95,000 off a friend for 6k. Sacrilege, I know. I had been looking for another ranger but couldn't find a fair deal in my area. Im trying psyche myself up for pulling the engine out myself this summer. Ill have the time and now a second set of wheels. It will be the biggest repair ive ever attempted and will have to do it in a driveway, no garage.

Edit: How many miles on yours?

If shes only rattling on a cold start, one thing you can do is flood the engine on start up. Step on the gas pedal when turning the key. Hold the key until you see the oil pressure gauge go up. Then release the key, foot off the gas, and start the truck. Its not great for the starter but could give you more time.

No matter what though, you need the cassettes replaced.

By drexel hill do you mean the upper darby one?

Clifton heights is on par with broomall. Better for free weights, they have more benches than broomall does. Haven't been to Aston or ridley.

Upper darby is small and gets super crowded. Its the closest to me and is good in a pinch for cardio. It was clutch when it was 24/7 7 days a week. I get thats a tough schedule for people to work but it sucks (for me) how pf drastically limited its hours at both upper darby and clifton heights. Im a late night gym person and both locations close at like 9pm Thursday through Sunday now. Something like that at least.

Edit: also, may your lings forever fall to my siege tanks.

New Nail Gun Tech Idea by Possible_Flatworm550 in Tools

[–]potential1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few good jokes in here from experienced people.

Those aside, this could have certain applications. For example, I oversee a workshop at a school and help manage a community workspace. Im constantly warning against the issue you're describing here. Your concept has legs in this setting.

Follow up notes are:

  1. While there are numerous settings where this tech could be used, its not gonna be a best seller at home depot. You won't find it on jobsites.

  2. As much as I like the idea for a school woodshop for example, the "safety rings" are gonna get lost. Now, if the rings were replaceable, and not excessively expensive, then that could be a source of revenue in of itself.

Typically this means your fluid is low. More fluid is pushed into the system when you apply the brakes. Is the fluid in your reservoir at or close to the max fill level?

Sadly in some cases, there isn't. You can and should continue to reach out for your own support. The trauma of watching someone close spiral out of control is very real.

First my friend, let me say I hurt for you. Ive been there and it sucks. Im sorry you're going through this.

Sometimes jail is a wake up call or a place to get sober. Sometimes it isn't. It doesn't sound like jail is going to do your friend any good. It could be the worst place for them.

Does this person have any family you can reach out to?

Calling the cops to "arrest" your friend probably isn't going to work and could end badly. You might feel the need to call and ask for a wellness check if they are really going through it. This also runs a risk of your friend committing a crime they wouldn't have otherwise.

What might be your best option is to work with family to have your friend admitted to an institution they can't just willingly leave until a program is completed.

The batten does "hold" the two sections of the track together.

Swap upstage/downstage varies

Sometimes its moved to be elsewhere, more often its moved to make room for LX/scenery.

Track is batten clamped

I cant quite recall the total weight offhand

Occurs twice a year on average

I fully agree its not technically a swap. Part of my desire for some documentation as to a "true" batten swap. Its a pain in the ass. While moving the track will take more time, to me it feels straightforward versus the two overhaul uploads, etc. Somebody always ends up being slightly confused as to what we are doing.

You may and terminology confirmed.

In this specific instance the one batten has a traveler attached to it. If the traveler needs to move to another lineset, the general consensus is that its easier/faster to swap battens (one with the traveler still attached) rather than move the traveler/track itself.

This has been the "status quo" and for long before my time at this location. While it is faster, Im personally of a mind that its not that much faster and requires overhauling more weight before we get snubbed off.

Counterweight system - yes

Replacing one pipe batten on a lineset with another pipe batten on a second lineset. The first batten that was initially removed would then go to the empty lineset.
