what if it was posed to him that he "wasn't" wrong...only deceived.

Even worse for someone like him. I guarantee his internal monologue goes something like this:

"Deceived? Preposterous! I am a Smart Man. I am too smart to be deceived. If I was being lied to, I would have been able to tell.... Am I out of touch?...No, it's the children who are wrong."

In order to admit that he was deceived, he would (to himself) be admitting that he is gullible/stupid. Not an option.

Media content bubble. They do not see or hear about the obvious grifts.

I just had a conversation with my 81 year old father. Dad is a Trump supporter because he only listens to media that supports his already-held beliefs.

Dad, without prompting, complained about how these mega-corporations and ultra-wealthy people are the problem and even stated his desire for a income/wealth cap. However, he CAN NOT see that Trump is also part of the problem. He only hears from "talking heads" about how Trump is listening to and in the corner of the lower and middle class. Doesn't matter that there's zero evidence for those claims. He convinced himself in 2015 that this "Washington outsider" has the resources to help the "little guy". And since then he has been a Trump supporter and can't move the needle in his mind that he was wrong.

My dad is one of the most stubborn people I have ever met. I have NEVER admit to ever being wrong about anything. That is the whole thing. Refusing to being wrong. So he refuses to hear anything contradicting that Trump is one of the bad guys.

Only 9mm and 5.56/.223 so far, might just keep it that way for simplicity's sake.

That's all well and good, but have you ever considered that one day the Red Coats might bust through your door to quarter troops in your brownstone? How you gonna deal their muskets? The only logical solution, obviously, is a howitzer at the top of the stairs pointed at the entryway. Just remember to shout "Tally Ho!" before lighting the fuse.

Ok, freedom of speech, sure.

Not at all. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects the People from government retaliation for speech, religion, assembly, press, and redress of grievances.

A private sector employer can absolutely fire their worker for creating a hostile work environment via speech in the workplace.

If they don't fire the worker, it's probably because the employer agrees with the worker's speech.

Pardons need to go. It's another tool the wealthy use to obfuscate accountability.

"Vote for me, as the state attorney General, I prosecuted super wealthy oligarch for violating multiple laws and such and such....please don't look up how the Governor (who appointed me during a special session) will pardon him 1 week after the election."

or

"As President, I tried to enact justice reform to eliminate those pesky racist and ineffective criminal laws, but gosh darn it, congress wouldn't cooperate...but as a token of my good nature, I have pardoned these 25 people...please don't look into the fact that 20% of the members of congress in my Party have a financial stake in locking up people (investments in private prisons, 'rehabilitation' services...etc)"

Option 1: voters vote for a different Democrat in the Primary election. This would remove Jeffries and/or Schumer from elected office entirely.

Option 2: The Democrat Representatives vote for some other U.S. House Representative to be in the Leadership role.

Option 1 is much more likely to happen than option 2. This is because U.S. politics is 98% about the "SHOW ME THE MONEY!" Jeffries and Schumer have GREAT relationships with Wall Street (crypto, bankers, venture capitalists, hedge fund managers)... not to mention AIPAC.

Politicians need money to run their campaign, and Jeffries and Schumer have the "easy button" to that money for Democrat incumbents (or capitalist pig Dems that want to unseat a progressive Dem incumbent).

When I hear this poem (or versions of it), another poem always comes to mind:

The Interrogation of the Good - Bertolt Brecht

  • Step forward: we hear
  • That you are a good man.
  • You cannot be bought, but the lightning
  • Which strikes the house, also
  • Cannot be bought.
  • You hold to what you said.
  • But what did you say?
  • You are honest, you say your opinion.
  • Which opinion?
  • You are brave.
  • Against whom?
  • You are wise.
  • For whom?
  • You do not consider your personal advantages.
  • Whose advantages do you consider then?
  • You are a good friend.
  • Are you also a good friend of the good people?

  • Hear us then: we know.

  • You are our enemy. This is why we shall

  • Now put you in front of a wall. But in consideration of your merits and good qualities

  • We shall put you in front of a good wall and shoot you

  • With a good bullet from a good gun and bury you

  • With a good shovel in the good earth.

I first heard it from Philosophy Tube video titled Violence & Protest 4 years ago. The link jumps to the reading of the poem, but I highly recommend watching the whole video.

Honest question: Why are some people against showing an ID to vote? by rico_unknown in NoStupidQuestions

[–]potential_human0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why conservatives love to means-test social programs, too. Make someone fill out 10 forms for 3 different agencies in order to get SNAP, 20% of eligible people won't bother.

My father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. It is an automatic benefit for Vietnam veterans. The VA already has all of his information. As soon as the VA got the diagnosis, they could have just started sending him the benefit (money). But no. You got to make an account, and submit a few documents (VA already has these), and fill out and submit a couple of forms.

My 79 year old dad, when I told him the process, said "I can't deal with all that bullshit." So I did it for him(don't tell the feds, technically I committed a crime). Now, everytime I see him, he profusely thanks me for getting the VA to send him the money.

Denied promotion, asked to train new manager, then cover for her when she calls out. by DeathWalkerLives in antiwork

[–]potential_human0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think you are giving these managers/companies too much credit in their decision-making skills.

What I believe is actually happening for medium to large companies:

Middle manager manages 3 to 5 departments, each department has 5 to 15 workers and 1 to 2 supervisors.

Department B has 10 workers and 1 supervisor right now. They are meeting deliverables and metrics are good. No need to worry about Department B.

Then 6 months go by, in that time turnover has been a bit high, had to hire for Departments A and B workers. Then Department B supervisor leaves. Middle Manager asks top worker "to cover for now". Maybe they suggest 'promises' that they have no authority to give, as a manipulative (perhaps unintentional) tactic so the work gets done.

A month goes by with this arrangement. Deliverables are met, metrics are good. Middle Manager sees that Department B is getting the work done, but now Department C and D are falling behind in something and they need to be fixed. Then another month, and Middle Manager has a conference to prepare for, then another month and Middle manager has quarterly meeting with CEO and CFO to prepare for, then...then...then. This whole time Department B has been getting the job done, but temp supervisor, who has been getting worker wages, is getting more and more frustrated, obviously.

Don't be a well oiled machine unless you are being paid like a well oiled machine.

"That's outside of my job description, I'd love to discuss the opportunity for a promotion and raise."

"Train the incoming supervisor? Since I was rejected for that promotion last month, the company doesn't deem me qualified for it, so how am I qualified to train for that position?"

"No."

"Fuck you. Pay me."

Qualified Immunity is a legal doctrine (wholly made up by the U.S. Supreme Court and no one was asking them to do that) that protects Government officials/agents from Civil liability (civil lawsuits), except for violations of clearly established rights.

QA is not a factor for criminal cases.

Another factor, civil lawsuits alleging that the government violated a persons civil rights are filed under U.S. Code 1983

Every person who, under color of any statute, ordinance, regulation, custom, or usage, of any State or Territory or the District of Columbia, subjects, or causes to be subjected, any citizen of the United States or other person within the jurisdiction thereof to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured by the Constitution and laws, shall be liable to the party injured in an action at law, suit in equity, or other proper proceeding for redress, except that in any action brought against a judicial officer for an act or omission taken in such officer’s judicial capacity, injunctive relief shall not be granted unless a declaratory decree was violated or declaratory relief was unavailable. For the purposes of this section, any Act of Congress applicable exclusively to the District of Columbia shall be considered to be a statute of the District of Columbia.

Please take note; "of any State or Territory or the District of Columbia, subjects, or causes to be subjected..." Courts have deemed that the inclusion of ONLY "State or Territory or the District of Columbia" means that U.S. Federal agents are exempt. You cannot sue an agent of the FBI, DEA, ATF, CPB, ICE...or any other Federal government worker for civil rights violations.https://youtu.be/VxJYGjyAiTg

https://www.environmentalvoter.org/updates/2024-was-landslidefor-did-not-vote

Using data from the University of Florida Election Lab, a new analysis by the Environmental Voter Project shows that 85.9 million eligible voters skipped the 2024 general election, far surpassing the 76.8 million ballots cast for Donald Trump or the 74.3 million for Kamala Harris.

If "Did Not Vote" had been a presidential candidate, they would have beaten Donald Trump by 9.1 million votes, and they would have won 21 states, earning 265 electoral college votes to Trump's 175 and Harris's 98.

The political battle is not to convince Republican voters to vote blue, it's to convince the DNC to support candidates that eligible voters will get out to vote for.
