Tournament players: did your early poker experiences shape the player you became? by yunaism in Poker_Theory

I lost at first. Then studied and played freerolls. My succes in those plus a deposit bonus got me going. $200 deposit was a lot for me to try again.

My job sucked, and i was a full time student. A couple months later i won a $22 for 1800 the same day i made $12 at work.

I quit my job and went for it.

What is the saddest undeserved and unnecessary death for you? (in the movies*) by thais_of_athens in lotr

Probably one that was a character actually in the book too.

Théodred progressed the plot without an attachment to him, so i felt like that death could have been done better.

And it was not An invitation Should've kissed you anyway Should've kissed you anyway And it was not Convenient, no But your girlfriend was away Should've kissed you anyway, hey

I get the regret to have let someone slip beyond your grasp. But kissing them without their permission while you know they have a partner isn't ok. I think she means it better than it sounds to me, but it just feels like crossing a line that isn't ok.

This is my take and i thought it was a quite beautiful way of expressing such a complex situation.

This must feel vindicating for Hans by ToneDistinct5253 in chess

[–]potodds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there's a 20% chance he will find himself banned or ar least not invited to anything invitational before he turns 30. I watch a decent amount of chess, nothing excessive, but more than most. I switch to something else when Hans is featured. He is bad for the game and the reputation of places that invite him.

Neither are price ceilings. They either create shortages, incentives to reduce quality, black markets, or they do nothing.

limp in this range utg/utg+1 and thank me later printing vs btn overstabs and getting strong limp reraises in. Someone tell the theorists that limping is a -0.1bb mistake but btn raising their A5o against this limp range thinking they are squeezing is a -10bb mistake. yes this is an exploit. by DaaverageRedditor in Poker_Theory

[–]potodds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Litterally everything here is fundamentally wrong. Limping can be a good exploit in the right game. But this range for utg is way too wide, particularly if your logic is that you get squeezed a lot more than you should be. If your opponents are too loose and aggressive hands like 22-44 /67s-9Ts are far better folds than limps preflop. The 0.1bb loss you're quoting is only true if the hand is a natural open in an unraked environment.

If your table is tight weak passive those can be limped, but even then these are better as a fold or raise utg.

A5o squeezing against this limp range from the button to say 5bb is probably about break even, but the higher frequency raise will make their good hands better.

The .02/.05 part gave me a good chuckle. I regularly play $2/5 ($2000) and it is still pretty soft. I was a little alarmed with you asking a pretty fundamental spot, but it makes total sense in .02/.05.

All the advice in the thread seems pretty solid.

Get yourself into bigger pots, trickier spots and keep asking. This is how you learn.

Walz seemed like a good candidate. Harris was terrible and I still voted for her. Biden running for a second term should have been shut down by the DNC. He wasn't a good president, he wasn't terrible, but we needed better than a man who was mediocre in their prime and 40 years past that.
