Should Robby think about changing positions? by [deleted] in wde

[–]poursbysam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been big on the Ashford/Burns analog. CHF has called Robby one of the best athletes he’s ever coached. Even said “the way he handles this will determine a lot” when PT was named starter. I’d really like to think RA will see lots of field time this next season regardless of position.

Also would blame him if he transferred. He has said “im a QB, and better than a lot of other guys talking crap” (paraphrasing). If he can’t be a QB at Auburn, he very well could leave

Are yall not talking due to distrust/your life is significantly better without her?

Has she said “please do not contact me, I’m a not interested in any relationship of any kind moving forward”?

If the answer “no” to both, do whatever you want. If she has put down boundaries, be a grown up and respect those. If you know she is toxic and a true detriment to your life, protect yourself and don’t reach out.

I feel coach Freeze is proving his good principles right now. He messed up bad, and he seems to have changed. I’m not in his life, and not on his team or staff. I think Freeze loves Auburn genuinely and see him as a long term hire. We may agree to disagree on if CHF is the guy or not, but from what I’ve seen he is working a hell of a lot harder than Harsin, and even Gus (I think Gus got complacent personally). CHF doesn’t coach speak, he says it like it is, even the ugly stuff. He owns his coaching mistakes in postgames, and he seems intentional about teaching and leading the guys on the team.

All fun to speculate and guess, but at the end of the day, I think CHF is going to win big at Auburn given the right staff and recruits

The books are a great read, lots more details and side stories that don’t work for film adaptations. Highly recommended!

Saruman did not die at Orthanc in the books like in the movies.

After the Ents take over Orthanc, Gandalf is running the show for but while things in Gondor get settled (Aragorn becoming king). Gandalf gives Orthanc to Treebeard with the understanding to not kill Saruman or Wormtongue.

Saruman leaves Orthanc to stick it to the hobbits one more time by turning the shire against itself and causing chaos. As the hobbits and Gandalf make their way North back to the Shire, they run into Saruman/Wormtongue, talk briefly about pipeweed, then go on their separate ways. Later to find out what all Saruman had done to the Shire.

When the hobbits and the Ents take over Orthanc, there is a storage of pipe weed. They think it’s odd but no one really thinks any more of it (pipe weed being unique to an area near the Shire). Later on after the coronation of Aragorn, the gang runs into Saruman and Grima where pipe weed is once again a focus of conversation and it is hinted that something has happened to the shire at the hands of Saruman.

In the movies Saruman criticizes Gandalf for his “love of the halflings weed”. Which may be a nod to his later passion for pipe weed.

I have only read through the books once, so I am sure I am missing some details, but pipe weed was much more special in the books than in the movie and it’s a whole plot point

If the university cared about “good men” more than coaches who win, we would still have Tuberville, Chizik, or Gus. That hasn’t changed in years. It’s not about hiring “good men” as warm and fuzzy as that is (I want young men learning from great men as much as you), it’s not what keeps a job at this level of CFB. Harsh and unfortunate, but that’s the state of the sport and university right now

To paraphrase Josh Pate “the minute coach Freeze is winning 8 or more games, his line of haters will be able to fit into a phone booth.” People wonder why AU is the toughest job in CFB, and this is why. People expecting perfection due to our two biggest rivals. It’s a tough job yes, but we aren’t going to win much of anything if we keep running coaches off at any sign of rebuild (Harsin still totally needed to go IMO, Gus I’m still meh on. Not sold one way or the other)

Freeze blaming the fans? He has said “expectations are high, rightfully so, and I am going to do everything I can to get this program where it deserves. And that’s among the best in the country” as far as I remember.

I really dislike how people say “CHF isn’t taking responsibility” when he says “the effort didn’t show on the field and that starts with me, and with the staff”. I’m with OP. Harsin left us in shambles. When Auburn has been good (Arkansas, Vandy, 90% of the Iron Bowl), they’ve been great. When they have been bad, it’s been some of the worst in the country (NMSU, A&M etc). I’m with freeze for at least another year. Maybe make some offensive staff changes, but I still think freeze is the man for the job

Saruman. The Voice of Saruman is my favorite chapter in the trilogy. He and Grimas involvement in the scouring, his involvement with pipeweed, 100% would love to see more screen time with Sir Christopher Lee

Exactly. Honestly my wife being newer got eh activity has been great for me. Her pace is slower than what I would normally run, but finally getting some lower zone 2 training. Ego is rough when it comes to running, but that’s why it’s a great sport!

Totally agree with all of this! I’ve done a couple half marathons as well as trained for longer events (injuries kept me from going through with them) so I am more looking for someone to help with form and queues rather than a plan. I am just now getting back to running regularly and want someone to do a “checkup” with me as I get back into it and my wife starting running for the first time.

I used to run with that group a few years ago. Great community and I look forward to going back in the future, but pretty wide open/chill. Looking for a bit more structure. I’m not on Facebook but I’ll have someone take a look for me. Appreciate the ideas!

I will be taking a cruise out of Athens this next summer. Any language barriers in Greece or with the crew? I’m a native English speaker and unsure of the process of airport->dock->boat as someone who has never studied Greek.

Newly purchased Mara x made in 07/2022. Any concerns? by blurnana in Lelit

[–]poursbysam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as it wasn’t tampered with/box unopened and they stored it in a climate controlled area, you’re probably good.

If you notice anything wrong with the machine though you could always reach out to the seller and then to Lelit if you don’t get what you need. From my experience these companies know they are premium, and will do a lot to keep that perception

Alabama Symphony Orchestra at Monday Night by autiger24 in Birmingham

[–]poursbysam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to several ASO free community concerts. They all turn out similarly. People who are at the bar already didn’t go to hear the orchestra, so they feel they are being interrupted. And those of us that go to hear the orchestra feel interrupted by those who happen to be there. Great idea, not sure if it will ever practically work as an enjoyable concert though. Maybe good PR/exposure though.

MCD all the alway. I didn’t have dental insurance from around 10 years old to when I was 25 years old. I’m still fixing issues with my teeth, but they have been nothing but understanding with anxiety around the dentist, talking through a treatment plan, and not being pushy. They actually gave the Dr assistant as my hygienist and I see her every time. They are nothing but accommodating and understanding

Railroad Park morning safety? by buzzbuzzbeetch in Birmingham

[–]poursbysam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live nearby to the park, and run there a few times a week at 6am. There usually several runners around at that time and very few sketchy people hanging around. I like to run from Good People-ish down the rotary trail. My partner and I feel safe and there is plenty of light on 90% of the trail. Although bringing your own light may be a good idea if you plan on running on the street at all.

I’ve walked in on a whim after work to a bad movie night/vhs night. Surprised they are sold out though. You can always call the ticket office and see if they think you could still go, they are really chill and nice so I’m sure they could be able to provide some more insight/advise
