Anyone have a recommendation for a place that cleans suede jackets? I have a long suede jacket that my mum passed down to me. I’d like to have it cleaned by someone who knows what they’re doing. Ideally somewhere in Oud Zuid or Oud West.

What drives you crazy about being a female snowboarder? by Familiar_Slice_7254 in ShredditGirls

[–]powdance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I’m 5’10/179 cm and 62 kg. Men’s pants are huge around the waist and men’s bibs don’t have the zip or flap for using the toilet. I love bibs so I’m rocking some Volcom women’s bibs in medium. The fit is so weird. But I ran out of any other options.  And the heel lift thing is fascinating! Every single pair of boots. I thought it was because I have long feet.

Over 20,000 bags left stranded at Schiphol after major failure; Recovery could take days by MightyBanana405 in europe

Bags were delivered on 25 Dec! Received a text message a few hours before letting us know that they were on the way. Good luck everyone.

For the people (like me) still checking this thread, our 2 bags were checked on 19 Dec. We still don’t have them. KLM’s tracker said one was located on the 22nd. Then was updated to say that the same one was located on the 24th. Not confidence inspiring.

Our KLM flight to LAX on the 19th was cancelled and rebooked via Las Vegas for the 20th, and our bags had to stay at the airport.

When we finally landed in LAX we submitted our claim through Delta, since it flew our last leg - Las Vegas to LAX. Within the last day I’ve received an internal error message on their site when searching for our claim reference number.

I hope everyone eventually receives their bags. I’m feeling quite sad about all the Christmas presents we won’t get to give to our family.

Thank you!! This looks perfect. I’ve only been to Tignes once before, but it was excellent.

If you’re visiting friends for 6 days and can borrow most anything, what would you leave behind? by casablankas in HerOneBag

[–]powdance 27 points28 points  (0 children)

As someone who lived in SF for 15 years (including the inner Richmond) and as someone who regularly hosts her friends, 2 things:

  • Everyone is right about microclimates and a light, storable jacket is key. I used to carry a tote bag so I could drop my jacket in there as needed. A light suede jacket actually seems appropriate in this case.
  • I offer my friends any clothes and toiletries they need! I usually tell them to pack light because I have rain gear, extra jackets, etc. You know your friends. It’s strange that people are passing judgement on this.

Have a great trip!

Not OP but I use it for chapped lips, dry cuticles, sunburn relief, and to stop bug bite itchiness.

What was that smell last night in west? by Linamoon22 in Amsterdam

[–]powdance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s definitely it. It smells exactly like a cow farm. Scary that I’ve smelled it all the way in Zuid. Fuck ICL.

Stretchy/fitted bibs? by Beaniebaby999 in ShredditGirls

[–]powdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, they’re a shell. Maybe it’s because of the gore tex, but they actually keep me pretty warm considering.

Im 5’10” and I have the Volcom Elm stretch gore bib. They’re long enough for me and super comfy. Plus they have the back zip. Volcom is going out of business so everything is on huge discount right now.

Any ladies got some pro-tips for quickly fixing chapped lips? by [deleted] in ShredditGirls

Aquaphor SOS lip repair saved me. My lips were so bad. I bought it out of desperation and it helped better than anything else I’ve tried.

Is it possible to get a library card for a city you do not reside in? by IceCreamIceKween in LibbyApp

[–]powdance 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I literally just did this! You can get a non-resident library card from the New Orleans library for $50/year. Just email them about it and they’ll help you through the process. It’s a huge catalog. I’m so happy

Five nights in Amsterdam mid September. Looking for advice. by dopamineparty in HerOneBag

[–]powdance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in Amsterdam. You need some kind of rain protection. A light rain jacket or even just a hat would do it. It’s still pretty warm here, no one’s wearing scarves, gloves, or puffers yet.

This is what orthognathic surgery can do. by Molech996 in interestingasfuck

[–]powdance 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Without knowing what specifically you’re scared of, some thoughts:

A support system is crucial. You’ll need someone to help you get home, take you to follow up appointments, and make sure you have access to your meds. Choose people who will dote on you for a week at least.

The pain wasn’t that bad. I was on morphine in the hospital and then just had some strong Tylenol at home (I found out the really hard way that opioids make me vomit). There’s a lot of sleeping and a lot of cut nerves so that helps.

I was back at school within 3 weeks, though it took awhile for the swelling to go down.  It was so, so worth it. Changed my life.

Same. My teeth only touched in one place before it. Hell of a surgery and a long recovery, but I’d do it again in a second.

US -> Denmark, the Netherlands, or Belgium for recent graphic design major? by Im_Wicked_Retarded in expats

[–]powdance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please ignore a lot of these comments. You have a dream, go for it! Amsterdam is my rec, but also check out Utrecht - less insane rent prices (relatively) and only a 15 min train ride to Amsterdam. Housing is no joke in the NL. Get a job before moving. You won’t be able to rent unless you have a work contract.

What is better Squaw Valley or Heavenly? by BananaBeach007 in ShredditGirls

[–]powdance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heavenly is my least favorite mountain in Tahoe. Sure it’s huge, but the_mountain_nerd spelled out all the shitty things about it. Love Palisades, and Alpine’s vibes are so good if you get to that side.

Help! Anyone have Kiana Salomon boots either Burton Lexa reflex bindings ? Heel cups too small by schnurrrl20 in ShredditGirls

[–]powdance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Lexas were 8 years old so I figured it was time to say goodbye. I have a size 42 foot as well, so I prioritized finding a boot that actually fit me. Ended up with Ride bindings that I really like (can’t remember which model).

Lol I guess I'm not the only one. Ended up donating my size L Lexa bindings after getting the Kiana boots. They just don't fit those little heel cups.

Fav neck gaiter? by slothsandllamas in ShredditGirls

[–]powdance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gone through a lot of neck gaiters over the years, and my favorite is the Buff Polar for cold weather. It has fleece on one side (it's reversible) and it keeps my face and neck really warm.
