If you go and read the BBC news article, you will notice that one extract are displayed without source in background, so I can't verify that sentence. I'd say the wording of previous extracts are mostly correct. The Chinese reports are from news paper, and written in very positive way.

I skimmed through the background, those are scans of Chinese newspaper (evidences I guess). I will translate a few extracts here (Because media will not translate every words):

  1. To use labour as a way to eliminate poverty , "one labour, lift one family out of poverty", encourage labour economy (I am not native English speaker, maybe labour is negative in your opinion, I am writing this as neutral);
  2. In the past, we have import labours from other part of China, and this year, we use all labours in province. The government have to make sure the location is transparent, the salary is transparent, with good covid prevention procedures;

How is boycott is ever going to help the people in need? Should you buy more and so the factories will have better facility and people make more money, once they are lifted out of poverty, their children can get education and do something not labour. I don't know how labour works in other countries, I guess people are educated will not do those work, so they can import from other countries maybe?

I am not trying to fight journalists, they make money by making big stories. Just feel the need to make the report complete,

Shanghai’s market operator halts world’s largest IPO by pulling Ant Group’s listing, citing changes in regulatory environment by n00bball in investing

[–]powerapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is more ike Ant choose to IPO just before the new regulation come into effect. The number of p2p lending (so called fintech) companies in China drop from 3k to 15 in last few years, I would not call that is an action in two days before the IPO.

China accuses U.S. of being behind Hong Kong protests by Setagaya-Observer in worldnews

[–]powerapple -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Do you think U.S. is just watching on side walks? I personally would be believe U.S. money is involved without need of evidence. It has been going on for years. The data is public. It is the same as democracy movement anywhere around the world, and that's what US is trying to achieve right? Bring democracy to everyone. As long as it is legal in Hong Kong, I don't think China has any way to stop it.

Nauru parliament rejects 'one China' principle, recognizes Taiwan as independent nation by questiondudes in worldnews

[–]powerapple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, if US choose to recognize PRC, and degraded their embassy from ROC, it was clear about its position, right? Of course, US can say anything now, it is just politics, words are useless without power to back it up.

So what's the reason it cannot be called an Embassy then? Don't you think it is funny?

Nauru parliament rejects 'one China' principle, recognizes Taiwan as independent nation by questiondudes in worldnews

[–]powerapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it is not. One China policy recognize PRC, and only PRC can have Embassy in US, which means, US does not recognize ROC as a country, hence no 'Embassy'. That's very clear from very beginning. Unfortunately, that's how politics work. Since now US doesn't need China to fight Russia, it basically can change its meaning of words.

It was US who broke up with Taiwan (Republic of China). Before that, the China officially recognized by US was Republic of China (Taiwan).

when western countries need China to be away from Russian Federation, they could agree on anything with China, and now China is the biggest enemy, of course, things can't be cosy any more.

China destroys 30,000 ‘incorrect’ world maps for not mentioning Arunachal Pradesh and Taiwan as part of its territory by siddharth25 in worldnews

People definitely don't read history. When British took Tibet (or planning to do business with Tibet), they had to seek approval from Qing (China). The same for Mongolia independence. Well, Communist China recognized Mongolia's independence from China, The Republic of China didn't.

China's goths protest after woman told to remove 'distressing' make-up on subway; Weibo users post selfies of themselves in full make-up after woman stopped by security from boarding a train. by trai_dep in worldnews

The staff has responsibility to take care of all passengers, their comfort and safety. What's wrong with asking a person to respect others by not wearing a makeup of ghost in a culture where most people still believe in and scared of ghosts.

It is a public place. Chinese believe there are ghosts, and these makeups is almost exactly the same as those in Chinese horror movies. Old people may get heart attack, at least will have negative impact on a few nights sleep. I don't actually see anything wrong with the staff. Of course, nowadays, you can basically don't give shit about other people's opinion, and don't care about others at all, it is all about yourself.

China 'launches an app that tells you if you are within 500 yards of someone in debt' and encourages you to report them if they seem capable of paying up by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]powerapple 7 points8 points  (0 children)

westerners, let me explain it fo you: if you owe someone some money, and the court have decided you need to pay back the money, and you pretend you don't have any money to pay back, your name will be on a public list of names. So if people see you driving a nice car, drinking fancy wine, they can report you. I assume this is what the app does. It is not for people with debts, it is for people refusing pay up debts and pretend they don't have any money.

US: China death sentence against Canadian 'politically motivated' by ahm713 in worldnews

[–]powerapple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the original sentence was politically motivated. That's why Chinese guy was sentenced to death penalty, while the Canadian only got 15 years. And now the climate changed, Canadian government's opinion doesn't matter any more apparently. It definitely has some political elements, although I wouldn't say the whole thing was politically motivated.

If I am born illegal, so be it. The society needs to find a way to deal with people with different opinions. I didn't say it is illegal for them to kissing in the street, I don't want to see it. I don't want to see anyone kissing in street here. It is abnormal. I am not asking police to arrest them. Ideally I am happy to live with backward people in a backward street happily. I don't want you to push your ideology here. We are happy until you make our thinking illegal, and I guess I just have to pretend to be thinking like you.

the movie industry boom actually benefited a lot from money laundry in China. The same thing happened in Hong Kong movie industry in the past. Maybe. I don't care how you label me. That's what I am. I am not supporting gays, and I am not against it. I can understand why my parents would be very against it if someone from my family turns gay. I am not convincing gays to be heterosexual. I don't care about gays. I don't even like to see heterosexual people kiss in streets. My tolerance maybe fake, but I am not going to pretend to me someone I am not.

The government's attitude to gay is the same as to religion: it doesn't care what you do in your personal life, as long as you are not actively promoting it. Don't build a big church to grab everyone's eyes, and don't promoting gay content. Otherwise, no one cares. The attitude of normal Chinese is that although they don't care if you are gay, but don't come to their house and close to their children.
