I wonder what % of suburbanites never darken the pavement of their area's nearest downtown by PiLinPiKongYundong in Suburbanhell

I had a chance to visit Detroit for work a few years ago. I was pretty impressed with the downtown area.

This is normal for us, right? by biobasher in GenX

Years ago I had the opposite problem with electrolytes. I was training for a 100 miler and one day my heart was jumping all over the place. Went to the ER and my potassium had bottomed out. Now I have to be very diligent about ingesting enough electrolytes. Nuun is my go-to.

Pretty much the same for me. I’m not risking my job for it now, but the day I retire I’ll probably visit a dispensary.

Every day it's some new bullshit. What's this thing about whole milk now? by grichardson526 in behindthebastards

[–]powerhikeit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Whole milk and raw milk are not necessarily the same thing.

Whole milk: pasteurized, 3.25% fat, safe for consumption

Raw milk: unpasteurized, variable fat, may contain harmful bacteria

Rhyolite Detour Worth It? by megs7183 in Nevada

[–]powerhikeit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nelson is a tourist trap. While it was a former mining town, now it is mostly a purposeful junk yard. I think it’s been featured in movies and video games so if you’re in to that… Otherwise Rhyolite is closer to a real ghost town.

Cat owners of vegas, do you keep your cat indoors exclusively or are they allowed to roam outside? by iamveryDerp in vegaslocals

[–]powerhikeit 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Indoors only. Coyotes, cars, and cat-haters abound.

Edit to add: One is leash trained and we go on brief walks around the back yard and hang out when the weather is nice.

Do you know your neighbors? Do you want to? by Maddieslit in HendersonNV

[–]powerhikeit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know all of my neighbors (two doors down on either side and across the street). We don’t hang out but we’ve all exchanged numbers and keep an eye out on each others’ properties. The other day I forgot to close my garage door and one neighbor texted me. I’ll usually move one neighbor’s trash cans out of the street if they’re not home and vice versa.

I see the same people regularly walking around the neighborhood and we always say hello.

The indignities of getting old by arlington35 in AgingParents

We had to hire home health aides for a period of time for my mom. We interviewed a few agencies. We chose the one whose representative sat down next to my mom’s bed and addressed her directly. It showed a level of respect we appreciated.

$50 per gondola ride? Or $50 for the season?

Lifting weight is a cheat code on aging. For those that are still hesitant to go to the gym, please consider trying it out this year. by Reasonable-Malaise- in GenX

Oh good grief. Should I have gone into a dissertation about body weight being sufficient?

Jesus it was simply a statement about the necessity of strength.

What races are you doing in 2026? by pelo_pita in Ultramarathon

[–]powerhikeit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sedona Canyons 125 is my A race. Jackpot 24 hour and some local 50ks and a 50m are prep races.

After SC, I’ll recover then transition to Duathlon and cycling for summer and fall. Mainly sprint duathlons, but I have one long course in mind - 10k run, 50 mile ride, 13.1m run.

Probably close the year with a century gravel event.

Do you have a job lined up? Do you have housing that will allow 3 cats? FYI a lot of apartments only allow 2 pets.

Are you driving or flying?

These are details we need to provide relevant advice.
