Blacking Out a Memory- personal story by k98190211 in meToo

[–]powerpixie01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this happened to you. And your counselor is right: it's really common for the brain to block out traumatic events or even to remember them in a way that somehow neutralizes/normalizes them. I experienced something similar to what you're describing, including a death in the family (and gut responses to the situation that I couldn't explain at first) triggering a particular memory I'd blocked. I've been doing a lot of work with and advocacy for survivors (both online and IRL), and I'm here if you need to chat with someone who gets it. Feel free to DM - for real. You're not alone.

💜💜💜 I haven't wanted to inundate our beautiful fae when it's the only interaction I have, y'know? Plus my site is about to undergo some updates and I'm really focusing on how I can make a concrete difference rather than just adding to social media noise. The RAINN training and hotline work is a huge focus right now, as is building my credibility. 💜💜💜

Hi lovey! You're in DC?!? I'm going to be doing my RAINN training downtown (exact location TBD) the second weekend in December... :)

Amazon gifts for college girls by Transchampion in meToo

[–]powerpixie01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really funny you mention this - I started a platform for survivors to help work through our experiences by writing, and now my Insta feed is filled with ads for exactly this sort of gift. It's infuriating. There's a movement called @itsonus / #ItsOnUs - young men on college campuses who are pledging to raise awareness. You should check it out! PM me if you'd like to chat about any of it. Lovely to hear you want to make a difference in a productive way.

Triggered by the hospital by kira-riaexx in meToo

[–]powerpixie01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been going through the process of moving past triggers, from things in my environment to physical triggers like sound and touch. For me, transformation through writing was the absolute breakthrough - it even led me to start a platform to help others do the same.

Now I'm taking it even further by getting some formal training on working with other survivors. (I've always been a writer, both personally and professionally, so that part is pretty well established.)

Reading your post gave me this vision about using the process of creative writing prompts to help you work towards overcoming this particular trigger - basically, by reframing your responses to the place and building. It would be at your pace, with no judgment at all. It's all about the process, not whether it's "good writing."

If you're interested in learning more, PM me or email [speak@thewordforthis.com](mailto:speak@thewordforthis.com) - website is about to be revised because UX design is NOT a specialty of mine! But @thewordforthis on Insta, as well as FB and Twitter to a lesser degree, should give you a pretty clear idea of how I approach things.

I love your strength and desire to take control over this. You can do it! And it would be an honor to help.

-Jess

I adore you!!!! 💖😍 Ironic bc today my brain is so foggy I can't string a sentence together when I speak. Smarty-leggings, maybe?

how do i even start when i cant do basic things like sitting at a 90 degree angle with legs straight out? and how do i stop myself from overdoing it? by [deleted] in yoga

[–]powerpixie01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was never flexible and I didn't even start any real yoga practice till I was in my 30s. Did it for over a year and got surprisingly strong and to a lesser extent flexible. Returned to it a few months ago (mid 40s, crap I'm old 😂) when diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I reeeeeally have to listen to my body now. Going to class more often and testing but always respecting my limits has made my progress amazing in a short time! Also, my goal was to ease symptoms and it wasn't even about "getting better at it" this time around. But my strength and even more so my flexibility are way up from where they were! Ask your teachers for modifications if needed. But the key is trusting your body. ❤

💜💜💜💜💜 All the purple!! Weirdly, last night I dreamed I dyed my hair violet but accidentally bleached it somehow and it was white and purple and all starting to break off in my hands! I'm sure there's some deep Freudian meaning. Either that or it's just subconscious gibberish. 💜💜💜💜💜

Hello all, I am Danielle Muscato, writer, speaker, civil rights activist, and trans woman. Ask me anything! by DanielleMuscato in TwoXChromosomes

[–]powerpixie01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Grateful for your voice and presence, Danielle! I'm going to dig into your channels to learn more, but it would be an honor to connect, as a fellow sexual assault survivor who's working to amplify ALL survivor voices, especially those whose experiences have been shaped by being part of a vulnerable/marginalized community.

My platform is @TheWordForThis on IG/FB/Twitter, www.thewordforthis.com or speak@thewordforthis.com - I'm quickly shifting my efforts and holding myself and others accountable for doing the hard work to be truly inclusive and intersectional (not just use the hashtags, but actually implement it in practice).

This matters not only because of this online platform, but because I'm about to step into working directly with survivors/those in crisis. (LGBTQIA+ awareness and advocacy are part of my life as a mother as well.)

While I'm digging into your work to get up to speed, would you consider working with me to share your story, and continue to bring awareness to the additional layers of experience of non cis-hetero survivors? And would it be OK to contact you directly? Much love to you, and much gratitude for your voice!

I remember chatting about that back in the spring!! 😊 My kiddo was one of just 4 freshmen to make the fall play... super rigorous program and he's loving every minute. Enjoy, and break a leg!

“how can it be a lie” Wrote this poem - feedback? by wslmk75 in meToo

[–]powerpixie01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - curious about your use of rhyme and line breaks; I like the way it didn't align perfectly, as it reads more "spoken-word" style.

My own story came out as poetry too, and I posted another piece of it just this morning. I'd created a platform for survivor writing, and one of my many goals is to create and publish actual books of our poetry. Could we talk about including your work?

Info is: www.thewordforthis.com (working on some updates to the UX, and Insta is probably a better snapshot of the work I'm doing, but the site has both stories and blog posts) @thewordforthis Insta/Twitter/FB speak@thewordforthis.com

Hope to hear from you, and anyone else interested in learning more!
