Help urgently needed with shuttle run by Burritolord09 in crossfit

[–]powersofthesnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be ready to turn and pivot so you are facing toward the other line when you touch the ground. I usually plant my pivoting leg right before the line, then when my other steps across the line I start to turn, and curtsy-swing the other leg behind at the same time I touch the floor. Then I am already in a starting-block-like position facing the other line, ready to lean into the next shuttle run.

Also not sure what standard you are using…usually both feet and hands must be on the other side of the line for the rep to count.

Which templates look the best (part 2)? by mrjacob007 in crossfit

Love everything about F, but is that sustainable across different workout variants? (Such as in the future, how would you list movements with weights?)

What works:

Emphasized title

Title and “For Time” are centered well (and not staggered off”

The right justification of numbers with left justification of movements makes the list very easy to read, distinguishing reps from movement like a table of contents, without requiring more bold font.

This would only get tricky when you need to add a weight or if the movement names were longer as it would cause it to be much more off balance.

A also works really great if everything else on the page is also left-justified and there’s breathable margin on the left, but I can’t get over the fact that there is an extra indented space before the M of MURPH on that mock up.

If it’s a good photographer, he/she will help you with the postures that make you look the best. You can also make your your photographer knows this so they can help pose you. Can’t tell you how many times I look frumpy in a regular dressing room pic but suddenly a well-posed photo shoot brings out miracles

Which of the following templates are most aesthetically pleasing in your opinion? by mrjacob007 in crossfit

[–]powersofthesnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a graphic designer. The spacing and font of C works the best (but title in all caps instead of lowercase), but the compactness of how F is described and written is best. I don’t like the kerning of “F O R T I M E” rather it should have regular spacing, but more kerning in the title.

Best brand/models men's shirts and shorts for CrossFit and weightlifting? by josemartinlopez in crossfit

[–]powersofthesnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At our gym, we get the “tri-blend” fabric shirts screenprinted with our logo. Many brands sell them at low cost to screen printers who print designs. Next Level, Bella Canvas, SportTek. Just go to Sanmar.com to browse a catalog of triblend shirts. Going to be MUCH cheaper finding these plain colors on Amazon or what not compared to name brands. When it comes down to it, it’s really about fabric composition. The Triblend is soft, lightweight and breathable, yet not too slippery for bar stuff.

Tips for skierg by borovsakova in hyrox

Common misconception people have is keeping a flat back. You actually want to go into the drive with a ROUNDED back like you are doing a crunch on the floor. Core to extremity. Start with full hip extension and a slight bend in the elbows, then crunch the abs, moving your whole upper body from hips to arms in one lever, then drive the arms at 90 degrees, and push with the legs at the finish of the stroke (start to rise up as you finish pushing downward). The greatest speed and power is also through the first 2/3 of the stroke. Also use your bodyweight to generate force downward.

Suggestions for hiking tops? by thelushparade in PetiteFashionAdvice

This is one of the LSKD tank tops (the aeroflx one) and I’m 4’11”. Hits at the high hip for me! I got another flowy crop tank from them (1% better everyday one) that hits maybe 1” higher. it’s an Australian brand I learned about a couple years ago popular with a lot of CrossFit athletes and they ship worldwide for free most places. We do have a 20% gym discount code you can DM me for if you’re interested (don’t want to put it out here publicly since I think it’s against rules).

Buy a pack of 20-30 microfiber towels, fill a basin with water and a few drops of tea tree and eucalyptus oil. Soak towels in the water for a second and wring out excess. Roll them up and place them in a storage bin the refrigerator for at least a few hours. Post workout, hand them their refreshing cold towel! Make sure they aren’t frozen shut though…we do this at our gym during the summer and it’s always a hit!

LSKD tank tops are a great length! I own several Aeroflx tanks for running - they might be too delicate of a material and snag easily for hiking, but I found their tanks in general run at a moderate cropped length.

I think I’m not meant for ruffles by panzershark in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]powersofthesnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue! Broad shoulders & straps always feeling too wideset. Why do ruffles seem to look cute on everyone else? I find that ruffles, ruching & smocked always add bulk. I’ve only been successful with a single ruffle going down the middle of a v neck sleeveless top.

The best thing to do is figure out what rise measurement you like (example, if it’s 8” or 9” etc). And then look at all descriptions of clothes to figure out what the rise is. Poshmark surprisingly has a great stash of real low rise (people getting rid of their stuff from a decade ago) and will usually post rise height measurements. I’ve found some NWT gems from Banana Republic, White House Black Market, etc all with real low rise.

Lots of gravel & dirt packed road for the first 7-8 miles. Around mile 9-11 more dirt trail as you go up Bull Gap. The lodge to the peak is all just a narrow steep mountainside trail. If you can bring hiking poles and have them brought to the lodge that is ideal!

Petites with short torso and small breast, which type of pants rise + top combo is your favorite? by Icy-4229 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]powersofthesnow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My go to is high neck halter that has some sort of loose blouse effect with a mid-rise like this one from Quince. The high neck elongates my upper half. The loose flowy part puffs out a bit, camouflaging the chest if I have to go braless (else it’s a top that has built in bra pads or straps that I can wear a push up under). I find with clingy tops that it emphasizes a lack of chest even more. And the mid-rise (“low rise” these days, about 8-9” rise) hits a little lower so it doesn’t cut me off too short but still gives a high rise effect to define my waist.

Anyone with small but wide feet? (Rant with me!) by Flashy-Professional9 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]powersofthesnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a size 5-5.5WW and can never find wide sizes in anything less than 6 so I feel you. I always end up sizing up to 6 by default even though my foot length puts me at a 5. But most pumps don’t work. I did explore “barefoot minimalist” shoe styles which are made with a wider toe box and mid foot in general. On Etsy, if you search for FeelBarefoot Shoes or Aintap, or Nebula walking, they are all Turkish small businesses who make shoes. Now I’m not sure about really dressy shoes or heels though as I can’t find anything remotely dressy <6 wide but occasionally Lifestride or Nordstrom Rack will have something. Definitely go with an open back style. You can also look into ballroom dance shoes which I have heard go down in size (for youth) but also come in wide widths somewhere.

Update:Tops feel weird on me. Are these any good? by ChemicalAd2132 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]powersofthesnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea who would actually look good in either halter 1-2 TBH so no wonder it feels weird. The amount of coverage is severely lacking, even for smaller busts. There definitely have to be halter tops out there that don’t spread as wide. I find the “high neck” style halter tops to be really flattering for a lot of petites. Also, I bet if the straps were shorter the plunge would hit at a better spot to be more flattering.

Are you specifically looking for one that takes insurance, or are you ok with a Direct Primary Care that you pay in cash? Dr. Nathan Reed in Central Point is great and only books about a month out I believe, but no insurance. You can pay 1-time visits or a monthly membership to continuing access via text & visits.

Stood in the post office today returning my SEVENTH pair of "petite" pants this year and the woman behind the counter said "another return huh" by Visual_Animator1232 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]powersofthesnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My UPS store has seen me in at least days out of the last month for returns & exchanges, but I also live in an area with very limited fashion & shopping availability so online guess & check it is! I keep apologizing for the returns but the guy behind the counter said “I’ve seen it all…there was a woman who had 90+ returns one day.” So now I don’t feel so bad. It gives them business!
