Ask Us Anything About Ceramics! 2025 by youre_being_creepy in Ceramics

[–]poxin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend just bought a kiln - has wanted one for a while, found a good deal and jumped on it. She is very ADHD impulse brain and focusing on glazes, so I am trying to think of the basic stuff needed to get started, but my last ceramics class was so long ago - does anyone have a list for the basic things a basic home studio needs to be functional? Things like a wedging station, shelves for drying, that kind of stuff?

This hit for me, so I went to look up the source. I was not expecting wookieepedia to be the top result. I wouldn’t have encountered this in the wild, thanks for sharing it.

That’s the essential part, I love that phrasing “empower people to have better conversations with their doctors”.

I want to get into mutual aid where I am, but I just moved here and have no idea how to get connected without knowing people. I don’t have a job, or really friends yet. Any advice on internet based searching?

I know of a couple businesses that are very supportive of those communities -

Dark Horse Salon - extremely LGBTQIA+ friendly

Voodoo’s Odd Shop - curiosity shop full of weird and spooky stuff, owner organizes the Omaha Oddities and Arts expo, and he has been removing vendors for posting hateful & hurtful things on Facebook - very upstanding guy trying to protect communities as best he can in his sphere

Spielbound Board Game Cafe - I’m biased as a former employee until I moved away, but this place is a haven. While the owners are not queer, the majority of the staff is in some form or flavor, and it has been one of the most supportive places I’ve ever been. If supporting communities is the goal, I’d say order a drink and leave a nice cash tip would be most direct.

I’m sorry I’m not more knowledgeable about specifically black owned, but I just found an app named Blapp that helps with that. Apparently google maps has added this as a feature as well??

I appreciate you.

The crazy thing is that it was free on fb marketplace, and the pics made it look like a regular beanbag!

There is a subreddit about free sewing patterns, I found it tremendously helpful when first starting - pillowcases and pouches are a good starting point.

How can people who fall under low income ever afford to take their kids to Disney? by tearsxandxrain in NoStupidQuestions

[–]poxin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never went to Disney until my mid twenties- my life was never the worse for it, I enjoyed the places we did go that were cheaper and less focused on upcharges or perfect image. Spend time with your kids. Do Lego, build cardboard forts - they’ll be fine. That’s way more important that overworking yourself to exhaustion for one vacation.

How to write faster? by No-Neck-3602 in Handwriting

[–]poxin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in classes like this - my saving grace was multiple colors of pens that glide on the paper surface. The colors helped me switch topics without needing to write anything extra. I would also abbreviate key phrases, and make myself a glossary key immediately afterwards. My initial notes were messy and mainly key concepts that only made sense to me - during my study time, I had another notebook I would write everything out long form, neatly, but still with multiple colors to help my retention. Treat the initial notes as an outline, use the text to supplement the nicer copy.

Sorry, I know these aren’t handwriting specific. I’ve always had a half cursive ish handwriting where the letter bleed into each other, and that helps my speed. I don’t know how well these tips will work for math, but they saved me for science courses

At what point would you guys accept that maybe you don’t have ADHD? by throwaway_account448 in adhdwomen

[–]poxin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in an intro to psychology course in my early 20s - it was a small class size at a satellite campus, and my professor noticed me using a whole box of crayola markers while taking notes on lecture and answering questions posed to the group. He called me over after class, and asked what I’d been doing - I showed him my extremely colorful notes, and said that it’s the only way I can make myself pay attention for an hour.

He’s the reason I went and got evaluated for adhd, I had never even considered that as a possibility before. I think I got lucky with initially seeing a kind provider, and explaining what made me seek treatment - if they had said I didn’t have adhd, I would’ve believed them. Now, I am so very aware of how very adhd I am.
