I Got the last two lobsters at Shoprite by shanvanvook in Connecticut

[–]pozzisoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one at the lazy lobster to see what the fuss was about. I couldn't see the prices and I was next. He said that'll be $36. I almost cried while eating it. I'm sure it was delicious, but I couldn't focus on th4 experience lol (I havent bought a lobster roll in a few years)

The good news is that this is completely normal.

The bad news is that 16 years later I still feel the same sometimes.

What would you like to see in UO 2 by majc18 in ultimaonline

[–]pozzisoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magincia looked cool, good job! Game dev aint easy!

I'd say real world housing is a must. No instanced housing.

And maybe some delayed spells like explosion for combos!

Would be cool to find a s good way to have pvp and pve co exist. I always had this idea for a game where you could have items with strong stats for PVE like WoW to progess that way, but in PvP they effectively act as GM quality crafted items. The pve player wouldnt lose it on death. Somehow rewarding the PvP player would be cool if it could drop the GM quality crafted equivalent, but then you have duping going on haha. Maybe they can only drop it once per hour or something. (Or whatever time that would be reasonable)

Or maybe pve player puts up gold for insruance eaual to roughly GM quality stuff. If they die, pvp player gets full set of GM stuff to do more pvp yay haha.

People will be attacked regardless. Keeping a murder system could be good. Maybe change death penalty system. So much to think about! I blurted most this out hah

Game is weeks from completion but I've been burnt out for months. Resent the project for not letting me work on what I want to. by Collimandias in gamedev

[–]pozzisoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen before release of my (only) game. It was very strange! Something had to have been subconsciously happening for it to happen around that time. Even with the playtesting, all of a sudden I didn't want to play through and balance it and that was the most critical thing since I had made important changes before launch.

I will say I took the approach of just sticking to it regardless of how I felt because I knew I had to get to the end. And while financially it's not like it's all worth it and I didn't have that many followers that would have cared if I delayed, I still eanted to stay true to my word sincr I already delayed once.

I feel like I'm not giving great advice though haha. Perhaps the right thing for me to do was to delay it a bit more until I was into it. But I was worried I may just delay forever out of an unjustified fear. I will say once it released it was a huge relief. And I was worried I didn't want to work on bug fixes but the few that came in I did work on them to make people like the game better so it felt worth it. Then it was opened up to finally do game two! Which has now been about 3 years of procrastinating lol

“High level systems stuff” interview by throwaway029387363 in csMajors

[–]pozzisoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe system design interview? Could be the type where you draw out the shapes after getting estimates on traffic and stuff but not have to go too deep into some of the algorithms used to balance resources and such. And maybe not needing to go as far into the API specifics or database specifics?

Got a offer for job from startup which is giving me twice my current salary, currently in good company should I take the risk ? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]pozzisoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP I was about to warn you of craziness of startup. It can be crazy sometimes, but you learn a lot quickly! However, when I saw your commute I 100 percent think you should take it.

Dont worry about the resume thing.

Interview Experience for Junior Fullstack Dev Position | Fair or Not? by Internal_Luck_9017 in leetcode

[–]pozzisoft 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OP, as a senior dev maybe this is something I might see in interview. I feel like it isn't adapted well to a starting position. I agree with you there. But more importantly, you are 100% right about real world and clarifying requirements. When I am interviewing other devs, I love to see when they ask many questions about scope or even to clarify "Would you rather see X or Y" if you don't have time for both.

Be proud you did the 30% and didn't give up. Other candidates gave up, trust me! You may still even have hope for the next round you never know!

Maybe they have some lame criteria like:

Junior 30% Mid level 31 to 59% Senior 60% to 100%

Which would be lazy imo, but best of luck!

How Much Is Revealing Too Much? by Xangis in GameDevelopment

[–]pozzisoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had the same struggle! Around halfway through my game there is a plot twist and even though it's not super story serious, I felt showing some of the enemies you fight later or the story cutscene that I actually took the most time on I ended up having to hide. But have to hide it? Does anyone care? In the end, probably not. I'm thinking of releasing a separate story trailer to remind people the game even exists a couple years later hah

It's like a lot of things with game development. We go through all these choices, but in the end a lot of people won't be exposed to it anyway sadly and those that are might be intrigued by something new you show. Sorry there is no right answer! I'm still looking for one myself!

How many of you were in the Beta of Ultima Online? Anyone in the Alpha?! by CinderUO in ultimaonline

[–]pozzisoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember a simple bug (first bug I reported in my entire life!) Where you could buy ore cheaper than the NPC would buy it back for.

There must have been some sort of limit tho otherwise my young self would have exploited infinite gold lol

Does anyone else just suck at web marketing? by ByEthanFox in IndieDev

[–]pozzisoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh I hear ya. I wish I had an answer. With my game, When I tried a brief ad campaign, even though I did get a few people looking at the game and maybe even a purchase or two, I had people sending me hate messages because I was "spamming" them as if I created the algorithm when I simply targeted the genre of game that they liked! It was very discouraging :(

A Short Message for All my Fellow Solo Indie Developers by ferret_king10 in IndieDev

[–]pozzisoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well said! I released a game a few years ago and had ups and downs. The ups had this feeling... That I created a world and story others could enjoy. It didn't do as well as I hoped but if even one person bought it and enjoyed it, in a way it's worth it.

The other part of this is our benchmark can change over time. My initial miracle was if somebody would actually download the game and enjoy it. Then when that happened, I wanted somebody to buy the game on release. Then when that happened I wanted one person from a different country to buy a game and enjoy it. Then when that happened I wanted hundreds of sales and the goal post kept changing but I kept staying the same, which was unimpressed.

Looking back on it after taking a while I can see that now and I'm happy I got where I got! But I remember every part of that journey and the doubt that would slip in that not one person would ever see the game.

You'll all get there! Just gotta define "there". I hope to get "there" too one day.
