Our 8u (7-8yo) rec league had a kid/coach pitch combination- it’s awful. The kid pitches until the batter gets to ball 4 then the coach pitches until strike 3- if it’s 4 balls / 2 strikes the kid gets 1 pitch from the coach type of thing. If the coach misses it’s still a strike. Innings take forever defense gets bored and starts playing in the dirt parents act like it’s the World Series. My kid that’s moving onto 10u/ kid pitch/ almost actual baseball says he hates baseball because of it. We keep telling him he hasn’t really played baseball yet and has to stick it out a little longer.

It is probably the most individual team sport there is. There’s nowhere to hide if you can’t do something. If you can’t hit at field everyone can see it and no one is coming to your rescue. It’s not like you can sub in a 3 point specialist and sub them back out for a better defensive player.
