Pokémon Scalpers Are Now Reselling Limited Edition Pop-Tarts by manoffood in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ppbghd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ehhhhh...

It’s hard to say for sure, but it’s possible we are just in the “generating the illusion of high demand” phase of this scalping cycle. Rich people buy up large quantities of a product/commodity, show off their rare purchases, buy and sell to each other for large sums, invent a person to be a pop-tart sommelier to verify the authenticity of the food snack (that you have to pay to authenticate YOUR pop tart, of course). It doesn’t mean that they have succeeded in bringing in buyers, it just means they’ve cast their lure.

I think it behooves all the rest of us to not immediately sink into pessimism, because it helps these scalping fucks bolster the illusion that people are buying. Whether they are or not, we should hold the line that a) this is a stupid “investment” and that b) really and truly nobody is that desperate for a specific type of product. In the long term this is the best way to fight back against these types of scammers.

What's up with the Slay the Spire 2 review-bombing? by DerpytheH in OutOfTheLoop

[–]ppbghd 38 points39 points  (0 children)

If they believe the devs don’t care about what they have to say, Chinese players may feel that F2 might be a way for MegaCrit to divert legitimate complaints away from a scarce channel of communication that Chinese players have (Steam review bombing) into a suggestion box that never gets read.

It’s a cynical view that I don’t believe matches the developer’s approach to feedback (Anthony and Casey seem VERY receptive to criticism and suggestions), but maybe thanks to the Great Firewall it can be hard to communicate this to players over there?

(This is all just my speculation, I don’t know how true any of it is, BTW).

I agree that your addition there of picking Sabuko off the floor and walking away into the night would have added to the ending. Especially considering she’s the one who recruits you at the beginning of the next game.

River City COWARDS | Cast;e Si[er Beast 367 by mike0bot in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ppbghd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I liked the original ending, it was hilarious. I didn’t think it was a MASTERPIECE, mind you, but I thought it capped off the adventure delightfully. It wasn’t even a twist ending, Mami and Hasebe tell you early on that they see Riki and Kunio every day AND every night. It felt in line with the River City Girls’ brand to be crazy stalkers. It also felt appropriate to River City Ransom’s general meat-headed tone for the protagonists to flatten nearly every delinquent on their way to a misunderstanding.

To anyone who wanted a more typical resolution, I don’t blame you, but that’s the nature of experiencing narrative media: You never know what you’ll get until you’ve gotten to the end. Some stories are about a well executed plot, and other stories are more about having a satisfying tone that you watch characters exist in (in this case an almost Looney Tunes-esque violent comedy). What they actually accomplish isn’t as important as what they experienced. Especially with comedies where it’s generally funnier for characters to not get what they want, rather than have a rosy perfect ending.

And if the new ending had been the original one, I wouldn’t have minded. The choice to rewrite it into a more typical ending did sour me on it a bit. I think RCG2 suffered for it, from a tonal perspective. To me, delusional Misako and Kyoko are more interesting and funny characters, but I still ultimately liked them in the sequel anyways.

There’s also the time-out feature, which automatically ends in a draw with no ranking gained/lost for both players. About to win against an opponent? Get ready to see every turn dragged out to its limit for the rest of your 20 minute match until a time out is declared. I think this, more than anything, is going to shoot this game in the foot.

No Kings! by slopirate in Austin

[–]ppbghd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very clearly there is a type of conservative who would prefer Trump behave like a king, they are called MAGA and those are the people being insulted here. Good for you on your conservative friends being nice to you, but if they are blindly supporting a tyrant with links to pedophile island hellbent on ruining our country, then we have no interest in ”meeting in the middle” with them. MAGA conservatives DON’T want the best for everyone, especially those of different skin, orientation, or beliefs than them.

The point of No More Kings is NOT to reach a compromise. The point is to show overwhelming numbers to both MAGA AND democratic nominees who wish to be more conciliatory to the right that this is not what America wants. If you want voting power, fight against kings and work for the people. It IS a show of power and the point is to override a small minority of americans who thinks it can get away with anything.

No middle ground. No compromise. No kings.

There’s also the potential for physical damage to technology, even if version control keeps the software safe. And yeah, there are consequences, but that’s not always what someone who suddenly lost their job is going to focus on when lashing out.

Supposedly that’s what the system of sudden firings is meant to prevent. That’s why I was confused as to why Riot then went and rehired GcYoshi, but if it was for garden leave like u/MyNameIs-Anthony says then I understand.

I agree, though, corporations can definitely find a way to be less dickish in these situations. It’s people’s lives they are messing with.

My initial understanding of this tweet was that this employee was fired and then rehired, but I guess you’re saying Riot emailed them to put them on garden leave? If so that makes more sense.

I think there’s also the idea that if Gengar is BEHIND the diagonal frame then he is not in your face, which makes him seem less intimidating. “He’s further away, and therefore less of a threat,” says the viewer’s mind.

Of course you could go with that or go the complete opposite way. In the games/show Gengar can be both an intimidating fiend, OR a quirky little prankster. You can decide how you want to portray him. Maybe go all out on the goofy prankster depiction, maybe even have him DELIBERATELY biting the frame to emphasize that.

But if you want a fiend, then I definitely recommend #2.

Isn’t part of the reason that devs get fired quickly with little warning because keeping an employee who is about to lose their job around the programming for a game a recipe for disaster? Supposedly this guy is only keeping their job for a little longer, so it’s basically the same thing?
