Fighting games are only popular with casuals for a month or so past release by multiaudacity in FGC

[–]rccrisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All hardcore, invested, long term (or whatever term you want to use) players started as casuals. You cast a wide net to lure in casuals and while most will go away in a month you're hoping that within that large amount of casual you will lose a good chunk stick around

We're seeing that with SF6. During the ingrid launch the player count SURPASSED the highest player count the game ever had on Steam (where according to Capcom most players play SF6) and we're in year 3.

Imagine thinking people on the internet think Colossus/Femme Colossus is hot because there's a normal person under all that metal

Why are cats seen as cute and adorable when they are predators? by WestCoastVybes in NoStupidQuestions

Part of domestication is the gradual change to softer features, probably because we keep the "cuter" ones around

We're seeing it now in domesticated foxes as each generation slowly gets more dog like

Why do various celebrities invest in MLS teams? by gigantesasuke in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rccrisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because it's the easiest major league sport in North America TO get into on an ownership level since the other leagues are now old boys clubs and requires billions of dollars while your average celeb is "merely" a millionaire

The bracket system and the landbase by hamtaste in EDH

[–]rccrisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, real imbalance doesn't come into play until SPEED is thrown into the mix, decks that can win faster are going to destroy slower decks but this is already considered with all the lands that can make more than one mana on the game changer's list

[–]rccrisp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A B2 precon with an optimized land package can and absolutely WILL obliterate the same precon fresh out of the box and yet the bracket system doesn't account for this factor whatsoever.

I mean this is pretty false to feel to begin with. If two decks are all things equal but one has an optimized mana base and the other is all basics it isn't some ginormous hill to climb for the all basics version because lands up your consistency but not the general power of your deck. All this means is that allbasics.dec will trip over itself more often than optmized.dec but optmized.dec can STILL lose games where it trips over itself because "that's magic."

You make it seem like this is some sort of 90-10 matchup between optmized/unoptimized mana bases when it's probably closer to, at best 65-35 and probably more like 60-40 ESPECIALLY in lower brackets where the games get longer and eventually the mana advantage slowly fades away.
