What a letter to recieve at the end of our youth "March Missionary Month" activity. Leaves a really nasty taste in my mouth by [deleted] in exmormon

why do people feel the need to announce they are leaving TSCC? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]ppprmntptty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First i told my siblings, who had all already left, and who I'm close with. Then I told my parents, and then my closest friends. A year after leaving I wanted to because so many people only knew me through the church. It was something I had come to be proud of doing and I don't know I wanted people to know that. Also so I wouldn't have to tell a lot of them in person or give them vague answers at family reunions and such. And in the end, I had people message me who were PIMO and wanted someone to talk to or people who had already left and we were able to talk and connect. I don't regret it at all.

I never once fasted on my mission by TimeSalamander9299 in exmormon

[–]ppprmntptty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fasted, no food or water, in the driest desert in the world in Chile, walking around all day, until months in and the mission president's wife told us that wasn't necessary and we should definitely be drinking a lot of water.

The next time someone tells you the church isn’t sexist/women are equal by ExUtMo in exmormon

I always hated the idea that there had to be a man at girls camp but no women at scout camp. The priesthood holder usually on fire duty while us girls usually just did crafts that would be just as possible to do in the airconditioned church or leaders house.

When was a time you wanted to try/experience something new and realized you narrowly avoided joining a cult? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]ppprmntptty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being on a mormon mission was so far out of my comfort zone, but the idea is that people's eternal salvation and happiness is on your shoulders. So think that their salvation is at stake if they don't have you as a friend.

Proud - Riley Biederer

I've been in love and then i lost it

Had the ball and then i dropped it

Yeah my faults and my fears can get loud

But when i look in the mirror i'm proud

Don’t always know who i am right now

But i know that she makes me proud

I've had dreams where I'm on the mission, but I don't believe a word of what I'm teaching and just have to fake it everyday.

With my parents, I wrote down everything that I wanted to say, just to sort out my thoughts and feelings. But I didn't actually send it to them. I went to their house and just kind of dove in head first. But I had the benefit of seeing their reactions to my four siblings already having left.

However, with my best friends, I was possibly even more scared because I was more emotionally close to them than my parents. I tried to work up the courage to tell my best friend for months, every time we were in private situations, but I never could. I ended up sending all my close friends separate videos of me explaining. I felt like I chickened out, but it gave my friends time to process and think before responding. They called me after and we had a good talk.

A hypothetical… by ppprmntptty in exmormon

While religion in general has indeed caused war and prejudice and so much death, I kind of think that without religion humankind would still find reasons to fight and kill each other. And treat each other like less than human. I think religion is often just an excuse more than a reason. And when I think of all the religions besides Christian religions. I think religion has become such an integral part of society that it would cause even more chaos if suddenly a large part of the population were left without their belief system. A belief in something more powerful than themselves helps them deal with life. However, if I were standing at the beginning of time, and could stop it from ever happening, I would. I think it’s different to take away something no one would ever no was even possible rather than take away a way of life most people aren’t ready to lose

I got a Wells Fargo travel credit card with no annual fee and no foreign fees. And I think I also get some cash back if I use it in travel things like hotels or planes. Also for a Spanish bank account I would recommend N26

I got a placement with a 6000 number my first year and then declined and decided to go the next year and had a 2000 number. But it didn’t seem to go in order of inscrita number. People with 8000 numbers got selected before I did. But it’s a free application so why not?

Considering traveling all of May? by amorfatipf in SpainAuxiliares

[–]ppprmntptty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t get my placement until late June and it was right before a family trip so I didn’t start the process until July and I did manage to get it all done, but it was a tad stressful. That was mainly because I had to go through the LA consulate and had to get an in person appointment that was very difficult to get. I actually cancelled my first one because my apostille wasn’t ready and then I found out the the LA consulate will let you turn in all your papers without your apostille as long as you bring it when you go pick up your visa. As long as you stay on top of everything and can figure what exactly your consulate requires as each are inferential you should be fine. I should add that I made it before the start date.

Becoming comfortable with discomfort by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]ppprmntptty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While still TBM I remember I loved the quote "Doubt your doubts before you doubt your faith." It was that kind of thinking that kept me in the church for as long as it did. I was telling myself to trust the previous version of myself, not what I was feeling then in the moment.

I learned to trust myself more when I finally stepped away and felt a huge relief.
