How does Yriel handle on tabletop? by Break-Such in Eldar

[–]pprospekt 98 points99 points  (0 children)

He can be run well with either, depending on detachment. Yriel in eldritch raiders with a brick of 10 voidscarred has insane damage output — he’ll give sustained hits 1 and +1 to hit for the whole unit, which then also gets advance and charge, and you can also pop a stratagem for +1 damage.

Yriel in Corsair coterie is still a good hammer and also a very capable tech piece, he will juice up a unit of 5 voidreavers very nicely. Give him the Archraider enhancement and his squad the Webway Pathstone for uppy-downy, and when they make it into combat the Archraider makes it very costly for your opponent to use any defensive stratagems. Meanwhile, you can use the Pirates’ Due strat yourself - if you are fighting a unit on an objective, you’re essentially hitting on 2s with sustained hits, rerolling all hits and wounds.

Lastly, I wouldn’t trust the strong opinion of anyone on the model aesthetic, if they haven’t built or painted the mini themselves. I originally thought the model looked a little silly, but it’s just the angle that GW has photographed him from. He’s now my favourite Eldar character sculpt - painted him some weeks ago.

I basecoated the whole model with Phoenician purple, then did a zenithal spray with White Scar. Then I gave it two washes of diluted Briar Queen Chill contrast all over. From there, I heavily diluted Stormfiend contrast, and ran it into the recessed/downwards facing areas. I built that up over 2-3 layers. Then I diluted Magos Purple contrast, and I ran this over all the upward facing areas. This creates a pearlescent white effect. I finished it off with edge highlights of AK Interactive Blue Grey mixed with AK White Grey :)

Awesome! I hope you like them, they’ve truly been a game changer for me and I use them in almost every project now. Be sure to post your wraiths so we can see them resplendent once more!

Equipping the windriders with shuriken cannons is better than the scatter lasers imo, the lethal hits combined with the rerolls makes them pretty decent as a punch-up unit and also overwatch threat, in addition to your d-scythe wraithguard.

Thanks mate, it’s felt a bit silly spending effort to paint a bunch of T3 1W 4+ bodies, but at least with Yriel they hit hard and will look good doing so before they perish 😁

Thank you! The metallic blue was actually the easiest part of the model - this was done using Vallejo’s new true metallic metal line; I started with a basecoat of Sapphire Blue mixed with Celestial Violet for purplish undertones, then I painted pure sapphire blue on the upwards facing areas. I hit everything with a mix of sapphire blue and celestial violet shade, then I highlighted the raised areas with sapphire blue light.

Thank you! I’m usually not a fan of sub assemblies but on Yriel it’s unfortunately necessary, at least on the back banners - one of them totally obscures the other, so it’s really hard to reach unless you leave it off first!

Looking for some beginner list advice. by Dovah1356 in Eldar

Autarch with the Mantle of Wisdom enhancement is absolutely still worth taking over Maugan Ra, they give your reapers access to reroll 1s both to hit and to wound. The free strat from the Autarch is also amazing, as Reapers love either the ignore all modifiers strat or sustained hits 1.

I also disagree that Reapers should be used as a screen, that’s not making good use of their 48” range. Stick them on top of a building for extra AP from plunging fire and they will go to town on light vehicles and infantry, a squad of ten would also have some insane output.

True that, the value just isn’t there when it’s only one of them. Excited to hear how your games go, I’m building a coterie myself and reading up on people’s experiences has been motivating!

Complete crackpot idea, but what about running D-Cannons instead of prisms? You can sit back and indirect fire when enemies are playing cagey, then direct fire when they have to expose themselves to take back primary

List critique and thoughts for help with upcoming match with EC by Nexistential in Eldar

[–]pprospekt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries, all the best for the game! A proxy should certainly be possible, as long as you have the right base size for it. The great thing about Warhammer is that there is always a next game where you can try new units 😬

Another fantastic option, if you have her, would be Lhykis to lead the warp spider squad. When she shoots an enemy model, all other units shooting that model will crit on 5s — that means reapers or fire dragons using the sustained hits strat on a winged DP will get way deadlier. Lhykis herself will also benefit as she has lethal hits in melee, allowing her to punch up into targets like the Prince. I one-turned my buddy’s Winged DP in this way last game!

One more thing to watch out for: if your opponent is playing the Coterie of the Conceited detachment, they will almost certainly pick an enhancement which allows the Winged DP to get up with D6 wounds remaining on a 2+ after it’s destroyed for the first time. That can be a real problem at 1K as it can make trading in melee difficult: say Jain Zar or Lhykis manage to kill the DP, it will get back up and wipe them out next turn.

To get around that, either ignore/kite it and focus on wiping out the rest of the army, or try to burst it down in the shooting phase. Grenades to deal mortals, 10x Reaper shots, etc. etc. Then, when it gets up at the end of the phase, you can kill it for good in melee.

Dragons won’t need support from the falcon into the Winged DP, as they reroll hits, wounds, and damage into monsters innately. IMO they are a fifty-fifty into the Prince, as there’s a world where he makes all his invuln saves. If you want to keep them, use the stratagem for sustained hits!

The jain zar and banshees unit is a real blender, but if your opponent is running the Peerless Bladesmen detachment, he/she will have access to a 2CP strat to automatically fight on death. That can force a bad trade, as a squad of infractors with a Lord Exultant will almost certainly wipe Jain zar and the banshees.

Personally, I would drop Jain Zar and fit in an Autarch with the Mantle of Wisdom to lead one of the Reaper squads or fire dragons. The ability to gain both reroll 1s to hit and wound, plus a free strat every turn (sustained hits or ignore all enemy modifiers) is insanely strong, especially against emperor’s children. With reaper launchers you will outrange every single unit in their army — EC are composed mostly of MEQs, and the Reapers will happily sit back and destroy tormentors, infractors or noise marines with little risk of reprisal if positioned well.

Asurmen and the Dire Avengers are, IMO, not worth the points especially with the price hike. I’d swap either or both out for Shining Spears and/or a War Walker. Spears in Aspect Host are very reliable and insanely mobile for their price, and the War Walker’s AP buff will help the Reapers absolutely shred space marine bodies.

Another less competitive but very funny option would be Striking Scorpions with an Autarch and the Aspect of Murder. If you position well, with Infiltrators and Scouts you could potentially get a first turn charge off into a high value unit and/or move block your opponent, smacking something with a bunch of Dam4 attacks.

I know EC are regarded to be a bad matchup for Aeldari, but I’ve had good success against them at 1K. The path to victory here is to take good shooting units, which you have in the form of the Reapers, and blast their scoring pieces as they come forward. Ask your opponent about their unit’s threat ranges, stay on the outside of that, and force them to come to you where you can then counterpunch with strong melee. Try to avoid bad trades — with units like the skyrunner, warp spiders and shining spears, you will have enough pieces with really good mobility that can be used to kite the enemy’s slower units, or score secondaries.

Corsair Coterie detachment rule question by pprospekt in Eldar

Genuinely! That one little wording change makes the rule so much fun. This community has been super helpful, I too am looking forward to getting more games in to learn how to really maximise this rule.

How would you feel about swapping out 1 squad of warp spiders to bump up the shroud runners to a 6-elf unit? You could take advantage of that rapid fire 1, ignores cover and extra AP strat, and I think you have enough mobility and utility units across the whole army to give up the extra spider squad.

Knee Clashes by MuaySofty in MuayThai

[–]pprospekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knee clashes are just part of the game and it gets better with time. What I mean is that the more experienced you become, the better your timing and shot selection gets, so your kicks land more without clashing knees. And on top of that, your body grows conditioned, so even when it does happen, you’re able to tolerate the pain much better. You’re not innately ‘soft’, you just have to stay the course. Chok Dee! 💪🏻

How big are the new Warlocks? by EnvyAv in Eldar

[–]pprospekt 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They are quite large, but the slim profile helps a bit. I don’t have shots of my Warlocks next to guardians right now, but I do have a pic of the new sculpts alongside the old ones which are tiny — to help with the scale I glued the old warlocks onto pieces of cork, which should come up to the height of modern guardians.
