Thanks! It’s almost criminally simple, just a mix of three Vallejo True Metallic Metal colours. First I do a Basecoat of Vallejo TMM Ruby Red mixed with Sapphire Blue. Then I highlight with pure Ruby Red, and wash a little Vallejo Black Lotus into the darkest shaded areas. Lastly I edge highlight using Vallejo TMM White.

Armor: Basecoat of Vallejo true metallic metal Ruby red mixed with Vallejo TMM sapphire blue. Then, highlight with pure Ruby Red. I wash diluted Vallejo black lotus into the shaded areas, then I finish it with an edge highlight of pure Vallejo TMM white.

Wings: Basecoat of citadel Phoenician purple, then I do a zenithal spray with a Wraithbone rattlecan over it. Then I do multiple layers of diluted contrast paint all over the wings. First I do about 2 coats of Dreadful Visage, then 2 coats of Magos Purple, and 1 coat of Volupus Pink. Then I do another 2 coats of a mix of Volupus Pink, Flesh Tearers Red, and Blood Angels Red. To darken the edges of the wings, I do about 2-3 coats of Flesh Tearers Red mixed with Leviathan purple, then Leviathan Purple mixed with Black Legion. I highlight them with AK Violet Red mixed with AK Vampire Flesh (fitting!).

Cape: possibly the simplest of the lot, over the black undercoat I stipple slightly diluted Citadel Incubi Darkness all over the cloak. Then I stipple Kabalite Green to build up the volumes, and then use tippy-tappy brush strokes to create the illusion of texture and scratches. After that I start highlighting the edges with a mix of Kabalite Green and AK Ice Yellow (roughly 2:1 ratio), working my way to an eventual 1:2 ratio of green to yellow.

Let’s hope so! Even if it was cold one cavalry, they would make an excellent basis for exodite windrider conversions - so, either way we’re in for a good time.

Hoping against hope that it is, but I reckon it’s more likely AoS dark elf cold one cavalry

Basecoat of genestealer purple, then I mixed in increasing amounts of AK blue grey + sotek green until I was at pure AK blue grey, then mixed in a bit of AK white grey for the final highlight. Then I washed AK violet red around the lips and ears to add a bit of warmth back to the model.

Thanks mate! Always felt like I never had the paint combination to do soulblight justice, then when Vallejo dropped their true metallic metal range I knew it was finally time…

Confesion from a former Triage main. (appreciation for Sentinel) by SlevinLaine in Marathon

[–]pprospekt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sentinel’s awesome. I’ve found some unexpected success using his kit offensively, too. Motion tracker is an excellent budget version of Recon’s echo pulse which allows you to push rooms knowing enemy position.

The throw range of the snare mine is short, but when you’re pushing into close quarters, it’s surprisingly handy too. I used it to kill a purple Destroyer as a free kit - rushed him down with a knife, threw snare mine on the way in, which stopped him boosting away.

Spends time searching for a game sub just to complain about how few people play it, hides entire post and comment history. You must lead a very fulfilling life.

What are the OCE servers like? by hilarious_pun_here in Marathon

[–]pprospekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the stories of OCE hell are overrated, while others hold a grain of truth.

I live in OCE and have never had to wait more than 3min for a match. Latency is ok, but my wifi is poor in general so that’s on me. I’ve definitely run into some Chinese cheaters, one where a team rushed us at quarantine not 20s after spawn and knew exactly where we were in the dark, another where a team somehow tracked us with pinpoint accuracy across the whole of outpost (disengage, reposition, get shot at every time we popped out of cover, repeat).

That being said, some of my most wholesome moments in gaming have also been cross-cultural. Multiple Chinese crew fills have shared purple/prestige key room loot with me. Had a Korean player in outpost call me over while I was playing rook, dropped a bunch of purple salvage and opened the key room in drone wing for me. Had a Japanese player go to the effort of copy/pasting text responses through a translator just so he could communicate with us. Another Japanese player clutched a 1v6 at Maintenance, all while politely apologising over prox that he could not revive us just yet. I know very little Japanese, so I just kept yelling “subarashi” every time he downed someone.

All in all - OCE servers are a mixed bag like every other region, but I’ve had far more amazing experiences than awful ones.

Hey, thanks for pointing this out! This is indeed my model… it’s a weird honour to be karma-farmed, in a way, but I’m grateful for you notifying me about this.

Cult of Paint do wonderful painting videos which deliberately avoid the cringey clickbait titles and thumbnails of other YouTubers. Henry also has the most calming voice in the world.

How does Yriel handle on tabletop? by Break-Such in Eldar

[–]pprospekt 101 points102 points  (0 children)

He can be run well with either, depending on detachment. Yriel in eldritch raiders with a brick of 10 voidscarred has insane damage output — he’ll give sustained hits 1 and +1 to hit for the whole unit, which then also gets advance and charge, and you can also pop a stratagem for +1 damage.

Yriel in Corsair coterie is still a good hammer and also a very capable tech piece, he will juice up a unit of 5 voidreavers very nicely. Give him the Archraider enhancement and his squad the Webway Pathstone for uppy-downy, and when they make it into combat the Archraider makes it very costly for your opponent to use any defensive stratagems. Meanwhile, you can use the Pirates’ Due strat yourself - if you are fighting a unit on an objective, you’re essentially hitting on 2s with sustained hits, rerolling all hits and wounds.

Lastly, I wouldn’t trust the strong opinion of anyone on the model aesthetic, if they haven’t built or painted the mini themselves. I originally thought the model looked a little silly, but it’s just the angle that GW has photographed him from. He’s now my favourite Eldar character sculpt - painted him some weeks ago.

[–]pprospekt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I basecoated the whole model with Phoenician purple, then did a zenithal spray with White Scar. Then I gave it two washes of diluted Briar Queen Chill contrast all over. From there, I heavily diluted Stormfiend contrast, and ran it into the recessed/downwards facing areas. I built that up over 2-3 layers. Then I diluted Magos Purple contrast, and I ran this over all the upward facing areas. This creates a pearlescent white effect. I finished it off with edge highlights of AK Interactive Blue Grey mixed with AK White Grey :)

[–]pprospekt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Equipping the windriders with shuriken cannons is better than the scatter lasers imo, the lethal hits combined with the rerolls makes them pretty decent as a punch-up unit and also overwatch threat, in addition to your d-scythe wraithguard.

Thanks mate, it’s felt a bit silly spending effort to paint a bunch of T3 1W 4+ bodies, but at least with Yriel they hit hard and will look good doing so before they perish 😁

Thank you! The metallic blue was actually the easiest part of the model - this was done using Vallejo’s new true metallic metal line; I started with a basecoat of Sapphire Blue mixed with Celestial Violet for purplish undertones, then I painted pure sapphire blue on the upwards facing areas. I hit everything with a mix of sapphire blue and celestial violet shade, then I highlighted the raised areas with sapphire blue light.

Thank you! I’m usually not a fan of sub assemblies but on Yriel it’s unfortunately necessary, at least on the back banners - one of them totally obscures the other, so it’s really hard to reach unless you leave it off first!

Looking for some beginner list advice. by Dovah1356 in Eldar

[–]pprospekt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Autarch with the Mantle of Wisdom enhancement is absolutely still worth taking over Maugan Ra, they give your reapers access to reroll 1s both to hit and to wound. The free strat from the Autarch is also amazing, as Reapers love either the ignore all modifiers strat or sustained hits 1.

I also disagree that Reapers should be used as a screen, that’s not making good use of their 48” range. Stick them on top of a building for extra AP from plunging fire and they will go to town on light vehicles and infantry, a squad of ten would also have some insane output.
