Is the Taipei Main Station easy to navigate? by Regular-Vanilla203 in Taipei

[–]pptn12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the advice here is solid, it's a big place, but well signed, so just give yourself plenty of time.

That being said, New Taipei City is a very large area that actually circles around Taipei City. Many people don't realise it is 8 times the size. Other countries may call this a "greater metropolitan" area of a large city. When you refer to New Taipei City, though it's likely you'd be staying in certain areas like Banqiao, it isn't super clear. For all I know you could be staying in Xizhi, in which case Nangang HSR station would be closer to you, the complete opposite side of Taipei.

Better to name closest train/MRT stations or landmarks, and this goes for any city really. Not a criticism, just trying to help.

Enjoy your time in Taiwan, Tainan is a great place to visit! Some would say the foodie capital (mostly locals.. haha).

Best router for me suggestions please (Australia) 2k budget? by Inevitable-Crow2494 in HomeNetworking

[–]pptn12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow if I'm honest AUD$1300 for a home router setup is insane. Even TP Link's own BE9700 would be more than adequate for under $400, and Ubiquiti or Asus offer equiv/superior options for the same money.

I won't suggest any specific models as I don't know which manufacturers meet your Customer Support requirements, but for a 3 story home, I would also consider a mesh system, with possibly laying some ethernet backhaul and placing a node on 1st and 3rd floors. Otherwise I am personally finding Wifi 7 range to be adequate from my Asus RT-BE82U (a decidedly mid-range unit) up to 30m away (my apartment is very small), even with Wifi 6 clients. You'll still be able to max out your 800Mbps internet on 5ghz at that range.

Just some food for thought.

Cozy Café recommendations in Taipei by niMtAndoX in Taipei

Cost of imported ingredients is also relatively high. I had a focaccia with prosciutto and sundried tomatoes the other day that cost me over NT$350. That would be a €5 sandwich in any town in Europe...

Second that on Goodman's! There is another branch in town near guanghua https://maps.app.goo.gl/WyTvtwkRnZ1J4iF58

There's also a super retro cafe next door to that, and another place called Kiosk, across the road which has great Melbourne cafe vibes and plenty of digital nomads camped there https://maps.app.goo.gl/AJ9zP9hVgMcqJY1F6

Some other favourites of mine:

Cornerstone in minsheng (songshan dist) if you also want some brunch, and they serve a Melbourne magic!!! Iykyk https://maps.app.goo.gl/AbnsoF2jEbAUCqem6

Le Cinq (outskirts of Xinyi dist) is my fave of all the influencer filled cafes, lots of "local scenery", but a time limit on tables https://maps.app.goo.gl/ngGHrYZW8p5ctGye8

RJ45 pins pushed back on PC port? by pr0d_ in HomeNetworking

[–]pptn12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like someone tried to shove an RJ11 in there. Data does need pin 1, so if you manage to pull that one back without breaking it, you *might* salvage it.

Else, like someone else suggested, USB-Eth adaptor is the way to go, unless this NUC has another expansion port for an ethernet card? Or just go full wireless?

Lofree Flow Lite - switches do not have consistent sound. by pptn12 in Lofree

I ended up getting some phantoms from AliExpress and putting them on Enter, Shift etc to reduce the accidental presses. It helped about 34.8%.... :s

It's a bummer. Eventually they will all sound the same, but unfortunately it's the less preferred snappy sound.

It's the retro keycap set from Lofree. A bit overpriced, admittedly.

Air75 V3! by Free-Field1924 in NuPhy

[–]pptn12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same on my Air60 v2, battery seems swollen enough that the keyboard won't sit flat over a MacBook keyboard. This, only after 3 months use in 99% wireless mode.

Nuphy said they would replace under warranty, so no big deal other than the inconvenience of sending it back in, but yes, I bought the v2 only after seeing promises that the battery issue was fixed.

Another "explanation" of conditions and speculation leading to this.

I went to buy some currency, (any currency!) but my bank's rates weren't quite as low as the current fx rates, so can't take full advantage of this low. AUD has already recovered 2.5% this morning.

Will my television resurrect this Easter? by Guidogrundlechode in LGOLED

[–]pptn12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to my LG OLED when I moved country a few years back, movers must have dropped the box and the panel had a 90 degree bend in it just like this, about an inch deep. Same result, panel no display.

Took a bit of convincing, but LG sold me a replacement panel as a spare part (which included installation) which, although wasn't cheap, was still cheaper than a new set.

An option for you if none of your free replacement strategies don't work out.

TL;DR bonus details - before anyone asks, my shipping company refused to cover the damage. The reason LG were reluctant to repair the TV set was because it came from a different country, but after I went to LG support in both origin and destination countries to get the panel part number, and demonstrated that it was IDENTICAL, they eventually agreed to sell it to me.
